East Carolina Animal Emergency Introduce
When a pet emergency strikes, every second counts. For pet owners in Elizabeth City and the surrounding northeastern North Carolina region, having a reliable and compassionate emergency veterinary clinic nearby can be a life-saver. East Carolina Animal Emergency is that vital resource, operating as a dedicated after-hours and weekend veterinary hospital. This women-owned business understands the anxiety and urgency that come with a sick or injured pet, and they have built a reputation for providing expert, life-saving care with a deeply compassionate touch. Unlike a standard vet clinic with limited hours, East Carolina Animal Emergency is an extension of the care your regular veterinarian provides, stepping in when their doors are closed to offer critical care, emergency procedures, and intensive hospitalization.
The importance of a local emergency vet cannot be overstated. As one grateful client pointed out, many pets have not survived because the nearest emergency vet was too far away. East Carolina Animal Emergency fills this critical need in the community. Their team of experienced veterinarians and support staff is focused exclusively on emergency and critical care, ensuring they are well-equipped and ready to handle a wide range of urgent situations, from minor injuries to severe trauma. Their commitment to care goes "beyond the call of duty," as demonstrated in one review by a pet parent whose small chihuahua, Samba, survived a serious attack thanks to their emergency surgery, supplemental oxygen, and round-the-clock care. The owner was incredibly thankful for the "awesome" care and expertise that saved her beloved dog's life.
Beyond their medical expertise, what truly sets East Carolina Animal Emergency apart is their compassion and communication. The staff understands that when you arrive with a pet in crisis, you are also in distress. They prioritize urgent cases through a triage system but are also great at communicating with all pet owners, keeping them informed of wait times and their pet's condition. This was a key factor for a family who brought in a sick feral kitten named Kylo. They were pleasantly surprised that the wait was not as long as anticipated and that the staff was kind and courteous throughout the process. The care Kylo received helped him survive and thrive, a testament to the clinic’s dedication and empathy. Furthermore, the clinic's fees are reasonable and based on the income of the area, making life-saving care more accessible to everyone. The staff also expressed a desire to increase their hours, showing their ongoing commitment to the community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My dog Samba, pictured below, a 5 lb chihuahua, had been seriously attacked by one of my rescue dogs, a shepherd mix. She had to have emergency surgery, supplemental oxygen, and medication. She was in and out of the hospital over a couple weeks. Carolina Emergency went beyond the call of duty caring for her. I am so grateful to them and the other vet hospitals she had to be seen at for saving her life. She had to have 24 hour care so it necessitated her being transferred around. The care and expertise at this facility is awesome. My Samba survived and I am so thankful.
August 22 · Tracy WintersWe had a sick feral kitten and the wait wasn't a long as I anticipated for emergency. They had a few, more urgent, emergencies and were great about communicating with us instead of just leaving us to sit. All the staff were kinds and courteous. They took great care with our, Kylo and although he is FIV positive, he is doing wonderful and growing into a beautiful cat. Loving a life he wouldn't have had. Thank you for caring and being so compassionate. The fees were based on the income of our area and were very reasonable. They did suggest they wanted to eventually increase hours of operation. Fortunately, we have not had the need for an emergency vet since. I tell people about them. It's great to have them in our area. Many pets have not survived because the emergency vet was such a distance away. Let's support East Carolina Emergency so they remain in our area.
August 11 · Pamela KeatonCouldn’t be more grateful for ECAE! Unfortunately, 2 of my 3 dogs ended up with major surgeries in one year. ECAE was there for both of them. The closest vet ER by far. But also the best one I’ve been too—wonderful staff & took amazing care of my kiddos! Ultimately both surgeries had to be done elsewhere due to their nature, but ECAE no doubt saved Jax’s life by identifying his GI block and gave me so much peace of mind when I rushed Bella in to have her post op (knee) complication evaluated.Wonderful people! Highly recommend! With love,Bri, Jax & Bella
August 13 · Bri BoyceEast Carolina Emergency Vet is amazing. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Asked questions of me, were understanding and supportive. Explained everything in detail and in a way that was easy to understand which was extremely helpful at midnight and extreme fatigue. So thankful they are local to my area. Otherwise I would have to drive over an hour to the nearest emergency vet. I can’t thank them enough for the quick service. I also felt the prices were extremely reasonable. Best experience. Would highly recommend them to everyone, if you ever find yourself in a situation that can’t wait until morning or even if you think it can wait until morning, call them. They are there to help and are fantastic.
August 15 · Keriann HarrisDr. Pendry and her team are truly amazing. I travel a lot for work and anytime I am in a smaller town, I worry about what I would do in an emergency if my little one needs care. I am so grateful for this hospital. Dr. Pendry is one of the kindest, most sincere doctors I have ever met. Her team likewise is incredible (extra special shout out to Angela). Not only is the team skilled and efficient but they take the time to educate - something I am also very passionate about. Costs is always a concern but I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable things were here. I come from Colorado where even “routine” visits can run over $400. This place has all the bells and whistles of a major metropolitan hospital with a like-family true southern hospitality staff.
