West Geauga Veterinary Hospital Reviews
Dr Pappas and staff have been amazing vetting our animals from our rescue at Heart Of Ohio Guinea Pig Rescue and Sanctuary. They are quick to get us in for ferrets, guinea pigs, cats and other animals. The kitties were dumped and scared in the photos i posted and they did great by them
Feb 05, 2025 · Ashlee KayI feel like I was held hostage by familiarity for 15 years.I’ve been taking both dogs and cats to Dr.Pappas since I moved to the area years ago and while I’ve always had my issues, they’ve been mostly serviceable. My main complaint early on, like many others, was the hypocrisy of presenting yourself as a low stress (fear free) veterinary option while at the same time having an incredibly loud bird in the lobby that makes every animal waiting for care freak out. But that was not enough to cause me to leave them completely. No, the reason I will not be returning to Dr.Pappas or anyone at the West Geauga Veterinary Hospital is the callous way they dismissed us when our cat was within literal hours of death. After a weekend of pure pain and endless time waiting in emergency vet clinics, Monday morning was a gift to find our cat still alive and we still had time to save her.I called West Geauga Animal Hospital the minute they opened and explained the situation - that our cat needed an urgent examination and care that the emergency clinics were unable to provide. With cold dismissal we were asked if we had an appointment. When I said no, I was met with options for weeks away and a rather rude explanation that “we don’t do anything without an appointment and an examination of our own and those will have to be two separate appointments.”Now - I’m under no delusion that every veterinary clinic is an emergency surgery center. But we had been taking this cat to Dr.Pappus for her entire life and in my years of pet ownership, no vet has ever considered emergency surgery to be something that could be scheduled weeks out.Thankfully no other vet that we called was as delusional as West Geauga Animal Hospital, but I’ll get to that. When I asked them if they had any recommendations for surgical care in the area, I was met with a simple and direct “no.”I was shocked at just how little interest they bothered to express about a cat they had seen dozens of times over the years. I understand they have many clients, this is just unacceptable. She may be a paycheck to you, but she’s family to us.Fortunately we were able to get her into another local Animal Hospital just 30 minutes later where she was prepped for emergency surgery within the hour. The staff there were shocked and disgusted at the way WGAH had disrespected the field of animal healthcare. To quote someone from their team, “what? Do they only do elective cat surgery? There’s a whole lot of surgeries a cat can need that are emergencies”Especially this one. We learned that had I not taken my cat to the emergency vet one last time around 2:00 AM Monday morning and begged them to get fluids under her skin, she would have died before we could get her to a regular vet.I can understand having a full schedule, but this was not an issue for ANY of the other veterinary hospitals we called. Of the 6 or so, literally all of them were kind enough to offer to shift regularly scheduled checkups in order to see our cat.A cat that they had zero history with and had never met. None of them. And yet, the vet we had been taking our cat to for YEARS couldn’t even be bothered to recommend someone who could save her out of fear for promoting competition or something.Going to a different vet for a couple years since this incident has made me realize just how poor the care at WGAH really is. It allowed me to recognize just how rude Dr.Pappas is as well as the inexperience of her staff who are all, for the most part, very nice people. In my time going to WGAH, we’ve been given conflicting dietary advice, poor attention to detail resulting in missed shots and endless condescension.I was going to mention last minute appointment reschedulings, but then I realized that in the years we had been taking our animals there we had rescheduled at least two appointments because they had an emergency surgery come up.Go elsewhere. They do not care about your pet. I have more to say, but there’s a character limit.
Jun 26, 2025 · Crisp FuegoI regret taking my beloved dog of 12 years here to be put down.Anybody thinking of taking their pet here to be put to sleep should think again. It is not peaceful. There are squawking, screeching birds in the waiting room and it's so stressful... added onto an already stressful time.I wish I would've turned around and left because it just got more chaotic in the exam room with the vet and the vet tech not really being able to handle a large dog, physically or medically. The only consolation is that my dog was sedated so he didn't know of the chaos but it was very traumatic to me and my family.Just go somewhere else, even if it's a little more money
