### Services Offered
Forest Ridge Veterinary Hospital generally provides a range of core veterinary services essential for maintaining the health and well-being of cats and dogs. While a detailed, exhaustive list is best confirmed directly with the clinic, services typically offered by a local practice of this nature include:
Routine Wellness and Preventative Care: This is the foundation of pet health, encompassing annual physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations to protect against common diseases, and parasite control programs (such as for fleas, ticks, and heartworm). These services aim to keep pets healthy and detect potential issues early.
Diagnostic Services: To aid in diagnosing illnesses, the clinic likely offers basic in-house laboratory services for blood work and urinalysis, as well as potentially utilizing external laboratories for more specialized tests. Basic imaging, such as X-rays, may also be available to assess skeletal structures and internal organs.

### Features / Highlights
Forest Ridge Veterinary Hospital presents several features and highlights that are often appreciated by pet owners in the New York community, alongside some points to consider:
Kind and Caring Staff with a Genuine Love for Animals: Multiple positive reviews emphasize the "super kind, and caring staff" who genuinely "love animals." This is a significant highlight, as a compassionate team can greatly enhance the comfort level of both pets and their owners during veterinary visits. The sentiment that pets felt "very comfortable" and "liked all the staff" speaks to a welcoming environment created by the team's demeanor.
Convenient Local Access for Anxious Pets: For pet owners with animals that experience car sickness or anxiety related to travel and carriers, the convenient, shorter drive to Forest Ridge Veterinary Hospital is a major advantage. Reducing travel time can significantly lessen stress for anxious pets and their owners, making necessary veterinary visits more manageable.
Efficient Prescription Approvals: The hospital is noted for being "quick about approving prescription orders on Chewy." This efficiency in handling external pharmacy requests is a beneficial feature for pet owners who prefer to manage their pet's prescriptions through online services, indicating a streamlined process for medication refills.
Focus on Necessary Tests: One positive comment highlights that the practice "don't try and get you to do unnecessary tests for extra $." This suggests a philosophy of providing essential care without pushing for expensive, unneeded diagnostics, which can be reassuring for pet owners concerned about veterinary costs.
Challenges with Communication for Medical Questions: It's important to note that one extensive review details significant difficulties with communication regarding medication questions outside of scheduled appointments. This client experienced challenges getting information from non-veterinary staff via text messaging, leading to frustration and a perception that direct doctor communication was only available through additional paid visits. This could be a point of consideration for owners who anticipate needing frequent off-hour medical advice or detailed medication clarifications without an in-person visit.
Client Relationship Management Concerns: The aforementioned review also describes a situation where the client-practice relationship was terminated after communication difficulties. This indicates that the practice, as a "small practice," may have specific operational policies regarding client interactions and off-hours support that differ from larger facilities, which prospective clients should be aware of.

For pet owners living in New York, particularly in Earlton and the surrounding Greene County areas, Forest Ridge Veterinary Hospital presents itself as a local option for essential veterinary care. Its suitability for residents stems from several practical and emotional considerations, albeit with some aspects for prospective clients to consider.
A significant draw for locals is the convenience of its location on NY-81, offering a considerably shorter drive compared to vets further afield. This is especially beneficial for pets prone to travel sickness or anxiety, making necessary vet visits a less stressful experience for the entire family. The warm and genuinely caring demeanor of the staff, who are noted for their love of animals, creates a welcoming atmosphere where pets can feel more comfortable, which is a crucial factor for many pet owners.

However, it is important for New York locals to be aware of the communication dynamics, particularly regarding after-hours medical questions or detailed medication clarifications outside of scheduled visits, as some clients have reported challenges in this area. As a "small practice," their communication structure for off-appointment queries may differ from larger facilities. Therefore, for pet owners who anticipate needing extensive remote medical advice, it would be prudent to discuss these communication policies upfront.
Ultimately, for residents in Greene County seeking a local, compassionate team for their pets' routine and basic care, where animal comfort and efficiency in certain administrative tasks are prioritized, Forest Ridge Veterinary Hospital offers a convenient and caring option. Forest Ridge Veterinary Hospital Reviews
Super kind, and caring staff. You can tell they all genuinely love animals. I felt very comfortable, as did my cats. Both my boys were well behaved and liked all the sraff they came in contact with! So important!I used to drive 45 minutes to my previous vet but desperately needed a good vet closer to my home. I adopted a very anxious cat that does not do well in a carrier and gets very sick in the car. So nice to have this place only 15 minutes from my house. They are quick about approving prescription orders on Chewy and they don't try and get you to do unnecessary tests for extra $.Highly recommend this veterinarian.
Mar 20, 2025 · K DSharing my experience for other pet owners. I would not recommend this vet office.I had an emergency visit for my senior cat, I was grateful for the same day appt. Although at a high fee of $120 and was told they had a cancellation where I could fit into. They definitely made money off my visit! The Dr and tech were very professional and kind. They prescribed gabapentin liquid which I gave my cat and noticed my cat was still having episodes. The medication was working at first and then all of sudden didn’t. I contacted their office in attempt to ask questions about why the medication wasn’t working, because I was using it as instructed. It was the bottom of the bottle, didn’t know if that was the cause.Something simple as trying to get medication information on how to use from the vet turned into the impossible. Never experienced this from any vet service. They use a text messaging service in which Janice and another young lady who was not a vet, or technician would text message in a manner that was not helpful. My question was never answered. I called their office to try to get the medication info, and was told someone would get back to me. That turned into additional text messages, where I was told they are not doctors and have limited info to provide, I was then told to schedule another visit to speak with the doctor. The text messages were not professional at times, where I was told, she was writing me on her time off during after hours, and was trying to relay info but didn’t understand how to answer my questions. This went on for some time. With a lot of frustration, overwhelming and turned into an endless back and forth. I opted to contact Chewy’s 24/7 vet hotline, advice from a friend. It should not be complicated to get a simple medication question answered. I’m looking to understand what’s going on, if I need a higher dose or more often or spaced out. I could not get that support/answered by this vet’s office. Instead, I was advised to pay another $120 to go into the office to speak to the doctor about the medication. I requested that their office stop texting me, because it wasn’t helpful. They both kept messaging me that they didn’t know or repeating themselves, at times it was very late at night.Fast forward to Today, I spoke with Janice, the co-owner of this practice. I requested a refill and was told that they are “severing” my relationship as a client with me. Because I requested they stop texting. I attempted to explain why, I only got to share a little about the frustration of not being able to get medication into. She didn’t want to “debate”, talk about it further and told me, they do not want my business. She didn’t even know why I requested to stop the texting, nor did she ask.I understand small vet offices, understaffed situations, I work for global brands for 25+ years, I know how to manage operations. This I have not ever experienced. My warning to any pet owners, if you need support outside their office, you will not get it. I was told they are a small practice and there’s only one doctor, it’s impossible for the Dr to call back anyone. Going into the office is the only way. The texting service is not helpful communication. Attempting to provide medical info via text is insanity. They do not understand how to provide simple info on medication. That’s incredibly alarming, because most of the time, pet owners will have questions about medication or lab work. It will most likely be different for all pets.Save yourself frustration, peace of mind and money - go to a vet where you will get support for your pet without being told you’re the problem. Where the Vet will take accountability for their lack of support or how they don’t show up for pets and their owners. An already vulnerable situation for everyone.I wish them well. However, I would not refer them to anyone. My neighbor warned me about them too. My message is for pet owners. It’s my experience that Janice did not want to hear today; that now, everyone will know about.Vets need to do better!
