Based on the provided customer reviews, several points emerge regarding the perceived features and highlights of Trailside Veterinary Services, though some indicate areas for consideration.
- Long-standing Client Relationships: One reviewer noted that Dr. Galusha "had been my vet for years," suggesting that the clinic, or at least its veterinarians, may foster long-term relationships with clients who have previously found satisfaction with their services. This indicates a potential for continuity of care for established patients.
- Handling of Difficult Situations: The same long-term client expressed gratitude for how Dr. Galusha "handled my dog’s difficult end of life care." This suggests that the clinic may provide compassionate support during challenging and sensitive times for pet owners and their animals.
However, the provided reviews also highlight significant concerns that potential clients should be aware of:
- Service Denial: A review explicitly states, "They denied me service after 9 months," and attributes this denial to racial bias ("Because my owner is black. I mean just the way they look at him when we have office visits says it all."). This serious accusation points to a potential issue with discriminatory practices and poor client relations, which would be a major concern for any prospective client.
- Lack of Adherence to Current Guidelines/Patient Dismissal: Another review details an "upsetting & perplexing experience" where the veterinarian allegedly did not follow "up to date AAHA guidelines for treating feline diabetes." Despite requests for correct treatment, the reviewer claims they were "very abruptly fired... at a critical time in my cat’s care." This suggests potential issues with adhering to contemporary medical standards for certain conditions and problematic client communication, including the termination of patient relationships during critical health periods.
- Communication Issues/Client Interaction: Comments such as "They want you to do extra office visits and you may ask no questions. What is so complicated about wanted to know If I need a refill !?" and "When I say customer service was bad I can back it up" indicate significant concerns regarding communication transparency, client questioning, and overall customer service quality.
- Pet Over-stimulation: One review mentions "over stimulation problem because they pretend to love and care for me every time I saw them," which, while coming from a pet's perspective in the review, could imply that the clinic's handling of pets during visits might lead to anxiety or discomfort for some animals, or that the perceived care was not genuine.

In considering Trailside Veterinary Services for locals in Massachusetts, particularly those in the Shelburne Falls and wider Franklin County area, it's important for potential clients to weigh both the practical advantages and the serious concerns raised in customer feedback. The clinic's location on the Mohawk Trail offers convenient access for residents in Western Massachusetts, a key benefit for pet owners seeking local veterinary care. Like other veterinary clinics, they likely provide a range of essential services from wellness exams to basic surgeries, which are fundamental for maintaining pet health.
However, the provided reviews highlight significant issues that should be carefully considered by anyone looking for a new veterinary provider. Allegations of service denial based on race, concerns about the adherence to modern medical guidelines for specific conditions, abrupt dismissal of clients during critical care periods, and overall negative experiences with communication and customer service are serious matters. While the facility may have provided long-term care for some clients and handled sensitive situations like end-of-life care with compassion, the more recent and severe complaints regarding professionalism, equity, and standard of care warrant careful investigation by prospective clients. It is crucial for pet owners to feel confident in their veterinary team's ethical conduct, medical expertise, and commitment to clear, respectful communication. Therefore, while physically suitable due to its location, prospective clients should engage with Trailside Veterinary Services with these past experiences in mind and consider asking pertinent questions during their initial contact to ensure the clinic aligns with their expectations for comprehensive and equitable pet care.

They denied me service after 9 monthsBecause my owner is black. I mean just the way they look at him when we have office visits says it all. Now tell me why I have over stimulation problem because they pretend to love and care for me every time I saw them. They want you to do extra office visits and you may ask no questions. What is so complicated about wanted to know If I need a refill !? Additionally order a dozen can wet food. When I say customer service was bad I can back it up.
Jul 01, 2025 · Polo SemedoDr Galusha had been my vet for years. I will always be grateful to him for how he handled my dog’s difficult end of life care. However, I recently had a very upsetting & perplexing experience with him after my cat became diabetic. Like many of the more “old-school” vets who have been trained to treat cats like small dogs, Dr Galusha unfortunately doesn’t follow up to date AAHA guidelines for treating feline diabetes. When I requested correct treatment (these are not subjective things; it’s easy to look up the current clinically supported treatments, & he was not doing them), he did provide it (with significant reluctance) for a while, but at some point apparently got fed up with my requests & very abruptly fired me as a patient/owner at a critical time in my cat’s care. It was upsetting & confusing. When I described the situation to my new vet at Pioneer Valley, they were also pretty confused.
Apr 21, 2025 · Val FinkelUnfortunately I recently had to put my 16 year old pup to sleep. The staff at Trailside was able to get us scheduled quickly for the appointment. Dr. Galusha was extremely caring and calming during the visit. The staff even went above and beyond making my son feel comfortable by giving him some candy and kind words. All in all they made the experience as smooth and painless as possible.
Feb 10, 2025 · Brian McBrideThey say they have avail every time you call but then they won't schedule you for an appt. All my dog needs is tick medicine but I keep getting told to just keep calling around for other vets, all of whom I have called more than twice already. Why be a vet clinic if you won't see pt's. Helpless! I'll just let mt dog sit here and suffer. Thanks!!!!!
May 21, 2025 · Danielle GWarm, peaceful, friendly, and professional . Very gentle with our kitten, that they fostered. Asked great questions, and listened patiently to our answers. The entire team is wonderful. Highly recommend.
