A to Z Pet Shop Introduce
For pet owners across Connecticut, finding a local pet store that offers a wide array of products and supports their beloved companions is essential. Whether you’re a seasoned pet parent or welcoming a new animal into your home, having a convenient and well-stocked resource nearby makes all the difference. In Derby, CT, A to Z Pet Shop aims to be that local hub, providing various pet-related items to the community.
This article will provide an overview of A to Z Pet Shop, detailing its location, the types of products and services it offers, and what local users in the Connecticut area can expect from their visit. We'll explore why this establishment might be a suitable option for your pet supply needs, helping you make informed decisions for your animal family members.
---A to Z Pet Shop is conveniently located at 74 Pershing Dr STE 2, Derby, CT 06418, USA. This address places the store in a readily accessible spot for residents of Derby and the surrounding towns in New Haven County. Pershing Drive is a well-known road, making the pet shop easy to locate whether you’re driving from nearby communities or within Derby itself.
The strategic location is a significant advantage for local pet owners. Derby sits at the confluence of the Naugatuck and Housatonic Rivers, and its central position allows for relatively easy access from neighboring areas like Ansonia, Shelton, Seymour, and even parts of Orange or Milford. The store's presence within a commercial area typically ensures adequate parking, which is a practical benefit for customers who may be purchasing bulky items like pet food or larger accessories. This ease of access ensures that Connecticut pet owners can conveniently stock up on their essential supplies, saving them time and effort in their busy schedules.
---A to Z Pet Shop positions itself as a local destination for a variety of pet-related needs. While the primary focus of pet shops typically revolves around product sales, based on the general nature of such establishments and the types of animals mentioned in customer interactions, their offerings likely include:
- Pet Sales: It appears the shop sells various animals, including puppies (e.g., French Bulldogs mentioned in reviews) and smaller pets like amphibians (e.g., Pacman frogs). This would mean they facilitate the acquisition of new pets for local families.
- Pet Food and Nutrition: A standard offering for any pet store, including various brands of dog food, cat food, and specialized diets for other animals like reptiles, birds, or small mammals. This would cover different life stages and dietary needs.
- Pet Accessories and Supplies: A wide range of products for daily pet care and enjoyment. This typically includes collars, leashes, beds, toys, crates, carriers, grooming tools, and training aids.
- Aquarium and Terrarium Supplies: For customers with fish, reptiles, or amphibians, the store would likely stock tanks, lighting, heating elements, filtration systems, substrate, and decorations.
- Bird Supplies: Cages, birdseed, perches, and toys for various avian pets.
- Small Animal Supplies: Food, bedding, cages, and accessories for rodents (hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits) and other small companion animals.
- Health and Wellness Products: Over-the-counter medications, supplements, flea and tick treatments, and grooming products to help maintain pets’ health.
It's important for prospective customers to inquire directly about the specific breeds or types of animals available for sale, as well as the brands of food and supplies stocked, as inventory can vary.
---When considering A to Z Pet Shop, there are several aspects that might be highlighted, though it's important to consider all available public information:
- Local Presence: As a physical pet store in Derby, A to Z Pet Shop offers a tangible retail experience for locals. This provides an immediate option for purchasing pet supplies, avoiding shipping times associated with online shopping.
- Variety of Pets and Supplies: The store appears to offer a range of animals for sale, from puppies to amphibians, along with the corresponding supplies. This can be convenient for owners of multiple types of pets or those looking to expand their animal family.
- In-Person Consultation: Visiting a physical store allows customers to ask questions to staff members directly, potentially getting immediate advice on pet care or product selection, though the quality of this advice can vary.
However, it is crucial for potential customers in Connecticut to be aware of significant concerns raised in multiple customer reviews. These reviews consistently highlight issues related to the health of animals purchased from the shop. Specific allegations include puppies being sold with severe untreated health conditions (parasites, megaesophagus, malnutrition, pink eye) and other animals (like Pacman frogs) dying shortly after purchase. Customers have also reported difficulties in obtaining support or resolution from the store regarding these health issues, often needing to rely on legal protections like health guarantees or "lemon laws" to receive reimbursement for veterinary bills. These serious concerns about animal welfare and post-sale support are a significant aspect of the store’s public profile and should be carefully considered by anyone looking to purchase a pet from this establishment.

It is always recommended to call ahead to confirm their current operating hours and to inquire about specific pet availability or product stock before making a special trip.
---For pet owners in Derby, CT, and the surrounding communities, A to Z Pet Shop offers a local option for purchasing pet supplies and, potentially, new animal companions. Its presence on Pershing Drive makes it easily accessible for quick trips to replenish pet food, pick up new toys, or acquire other essential accessories. The convenience of a physical storefront allows for immediate product availability, which can be a significant advantage over online ordering for urgent needs or when you prefer to see products in person.
However, prospective customers in Connecticut should approach transactions involving the purchase of live animals from A to Z Pet Shop with considerable caution. The recurring themes in customer reviews regarding the health of animals sold, specifically puppies with severe pre-existing conditions and other pets dying shortly after purchase, are serious concerns that warrant careful consideration. While the store may offer a convenient local source for supplies, individuals considering purchasing a pet from this establishment should conduct thorough research, ask detailed questions about the animals' origins and health records, and understand their rights under local pet purchase laws. For those solely seeking pet food and accessories, it may serve as a functional local retail outlet, but for live animal purchases, it is vital to proceed with a heightened level of awareness given the consistent negative feedback on animal welfare.

A to Z Pet Shop Reviews
Update**: Thank you for your condolences, but your response misses several key points. Chia’s condition was the result of neglect and poor breeding, which is unacceptable. From the moment we brought her home, Chia had parasites, megaesophagus, severe malnutrition, and untreated pink eye. These problems should have been noticed long before we got her. The fact that a 3 month old puppy was so sick shows she was not properly cared for and likely came from bad breeding. Megaesophagus, while rare, is often caused by neglect or bad genetics, neither of which should have been passed on. This was not just a “rare case,” it was a preventable tragedy.I also know that many other local vets have treated sick puppies from your shop (and other pets shops alike), and that’s very concerning. Your store has a reputation for selling sick animals and has been warned about this problem before. This is not just one rare case — it’s a bigger issue. You say you were supportive, but in reality, we struggled to get the right care for Chia. While you may have helped with the costs in the end (due to the health guarantee and lemon law), the lack of responsibility in the beginning on your part made this process extremely difficult. In the end, you failed to provide us with a healthy, well cared for puppy. Chia’s passing is a painful reminder of the consequences of neglect. It’s important that others are made aware of the risks of buying animals from your store. All the negative reviews are true! I have been grieving for months after buying a puppy from here that passed away. I finally have the strength to tell her story.I bought a 3 month old french bulldog from A to Z Pet Shop exactly a year ago from today (February 23, 2024). She threw up a little upon bringing her home. We kept an eye on her and hoped that maybe it was just nervousness of being in a new environment. The next day, she continued throwing up, but this time there was blood. We rushed her to the ER. It was discovered that she had 2 strains of parasites: giardia and cystoisopora and was diagnosed with congenital megaesophagus and had pink eye that needed to be treated. She also weighed 5.9 pounds when she needed to be at least 10 pounds to be considered healthy weight. She was so lethargic and dehydrated and was seen several times by the ER. We were told by the ER and her primary care that we may need to consider euthanization options because of how sick and little she was. We fought to keep her alive. The ER bill came out to thousands of dollars. We got on the phone with Tara, the owner to A to Z. She said sorry, but there was nothing she could do for us. Luckily, my boyfriend at the time was going through the documents and found the A to Z Pet Shop Health Guarantee that states each puppy is guaranteed from any illness for 20 days. There's also a lemon law that protects people in these situations. That got Tara's attention to work with us!We went with the reimbursement option (for us to keep Chia and for them to reimburse us for the ER bills) because we loved Chia and wanted to care for her.Unfortunately, Chia had to be on a lot of medications so she could live a normal life due to how sickly she was when we bought her. She wasn't able to develop a strong immune system during the time she needed to and it took a toll on her. Her health was in waves throughout the several months we had her and ultimately, her body could not take it any longer. We loved and cared for her deeply. She is always our baby in our hearts. I have more proof of Chia's story if this shop DARES to say anything is false! Also, the ER bill uploaded is only one of the bills so you can get an idea of what this puppy and we went through.
Mar 09, 2025 · Madelene MejiaSold me a Pacman frog that died less than a week later even though I cared for it properly. Would never buy lizards or amphibians from them again.… Update after response: And now you reply to try and not take responsibility. Yes, I contacted the store. No one gave a damn. You guys are the worst!
Jun 09, 2025 · WhatUSeeintheShadowsI’ve been coming to A to Z pet shop for the past few months after I moved into town and I have nothing but amazing things to say! They are so kind here and always willing to work with customers. I come here for bugs for my chameleon and they special order her dubia roaches for me. One week I noticed some of them came dead and they were quick to swap out with a brand new container free of charge. Same thing with my fogger, it had a manufacturer issue and the manager was so quick to order me a replacement. Everyone here is so kind and willing to make you happy! I love coming here and all the workers are so sweet! Amazing small buisness keep up the amazing work!!!
Jun 21, 2025 · Kort CruxI wanted to make mention that this pet store is THE cleanest I've ever seen. The staff is extremely courteous and helpful. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is shopping for their pets needs. =)
Jul 03, 2025 · T JoOwners, please research the animals you’re selling and stop advertising inappropriate housing for them. A quick google search will tell you that dwarf hamsters actually need more space than Syrian hamsters, they’re recommended to have a 40” long & 24” high tank with several inches of substrate to burrow and a 7” diameter wheel to avoid back problems. The size of the beta tanks you’re selling is extremely upsetting and again a quick google search will tell you that the 1 cup tank size is a myth. People listen to pet stores, and you are spreading misinformation. You should be doing better by these animals.EDIT to owner's response: Bold of you to not acknowledge the fact that you are selling set-ups that are COMPLETELY inappropriate for the animals they're advertised for. Someone who cared for animals would have acknowledged this and fixed the problem. No reputable veterinarian would approve that pathetic hamster cage.
