★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Dr. J is incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Most importantly to me: He is practical and the staff all know my dog! He finds the right solution for your dog even if it isn't the mainstream solution. If I ever have any questions, I know I can call and talk to someone who cares.
September 10 · Schai DanielBest vet & staff hands down. My family has been coming here since 2000 (2001?) so Dr. Johnson has seen, known, and loved 4 of our family dogs. I don’t trust anyone else with my baby.
December 04 · Mary Kathryn HarringtonI, Raddles's mom, am giving Doc Johnson's Vet 5 full stars. HOWEVER, my big boy Raddles is super annoyed w/Dr. J. Raddles feels it's a total invasion of his personal privacy & possibly a HIPPA violation for Doctor J to tell Raddles's mom that he's 31 lbs overweight & to provide him w/no more than 2 cups of food daily. Raddles wants you to know that Doctor J actually suggested giving salted, uncooked frozen Broccoli florets or Green Beans as a treat. OBVIOUSLY, Raddles is not pleased w/Doctor J, but Raddles's mom sure is!I appreciate the fact that we never have to wait long (2-4 mins) in the waiting area after arriving as being in a vet's office can be traumatizing for both parent & pup/cat. At annual visits, if there is going to be an additional charge for suggested, optional procedures/tests beyond the routine visit cost, Dr J will discuss it & provide you the option(s) beforehand so you don't have sticker shock at the end of the visit. One thing I really appreciate about Dr. Johnson is that he will tell it to you straight. For significant medical diagnoses/treatments, Dr. J will give you a cost benefits analysis of possible treatments and their likelihood of success in order to allow you to make an informed decision w/o him pulling on your heartstrings & love for your pet... If the practicality and odds of a successful outcome are not very high, Dr. Johnson will say so. He is very much aware of how deep our love goes for pets, but he is not a vet who exploits this for profit (fyi, stay away from Big Box chain pet stores that offer veterinary services).I was first introduced to Johnson's Veterinary office nearly a decade ago when I offered to take my disabled friend's dog to Dr. J because her dog had a small growth on his eyelid that concerned her. Dr. Johnson diagnosed it as a harmless cyst, and while he said he could remove it under anesthesia($$), he also said that it would probably be a waste of money b/c it would likely return & put unnecessary stress on the dog as the cyst could easily be manually expressed/drained at home once or twice a year. Then, he showed me how to do it. Thus saving quite a bit over the cost of surgically removing it. Dr J seems to be much more cost-conscious of veterinary medicine than any other vets I've been to -- including another well-known vet in Marietta where my daughter summer interned while studying animal prosthetics at UGA.I noticed a review saying that they don't/won't provide prescriptions to other pharmacies. This is not really accurate. I specifically asked about this. They won't forward prescriptions to online pharmacies, BUT they will call-in prescriptions to any local pharmacy. Since most of the prescription medication given to pets, particularly dogs, is the same as given to humans, getting prescriptions filled at Kroger or CVS can cost less than paying for the convenience of getting them at a vet's office. Medication, esp generics like antibiotics and anti-anxiety pills, are available at local pharmacies and usually save costs. My dog has to take a strong "tranquilizer" before having his nails trimmed, and I opt to buy this medication at Johnson's because the cost is just slightly more than Publix's and the convenience of getting it at the appointment during our visits is worth the extra $4.40/yr. If Raddles ever needs a daily prescription, I would definitely check if it is also a human medication and available at Kroger, Publix, etc to compare their price w/buying it directly from Johnson's Vet.... Because of the above, I think it's an unfair assessment by another reviewer who provided a negative rating because Johnson's won't "call-in" a prescription to an online pet pharmacy since they will call it in to any local pharmacy. If it's a one-time, short duration prescription, like antibiotics, the added cost = convenience. In summary, I wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend Johnson's Veterinary Services... although Raddles is unlikely to be FULL (in his tummy) in the near future, I'm sure Raddles will be giving his full endorsement 31 lbs from now.
