May 22 · Kelly KlamerThey were very helpful to a helpless situation nothing like a momma just having her kittens and then needed to be put down. My Daughter and son was there as with one of “Spanky’s kittens. It was hard but truly amazing as her kitten seemed to know exactly what was going on and was holding momma’s hand as she passed
May 14 · William JohnsonWe took our 5 year old cat to the VetMEd Animal Hospital and they were AMAZING. She had congestive heart failure and we had to have her euthanized. They were so compassionate and patient while we made our decision. They treated our kitty with respect and the best care. 💓🐾
August 10 · MICHELLE CARPENTEROn 3/23/25 my 18 yr old kitty had been slowing down on eating due to 3-4 days of constipation and was showing signs of discomfort. To be fair, she had been seen 2 wks prior by her regular vet as she had stage 3 CKD and hyperthyroidism (managed well) for a 6 month bloodwork checkup but this was a sunday so we called VetMED to see if they could give her something to help her discomfort/constipation. She ate, had a BM, and urinated just prior to our departure and I almost cancelled the appt but they had said to "Get her in as soon as you can" after we explained the situation. When we arrived, we were given Dr. Sirrine and explained everything to her and her tech. Afterward, we were given an estimate of $1700+ even though I brought paperwork from her regular vet showing a good portion of what they were advising had just recently been done. In the interim Dr. Sirrine said "What would you like to accomplish today?" Both I and my cousin said we wanted her to be comfortable. Not sure if there was a miscommunication/misinterpretation but in hindsight I wonder if Dr. Sirrine thought we were there for euthanasia. This was NOT the case..she was NOT near death..yet! After hours of waiting they offered Cerenia and Sub q fluids to take home as well as a script for Lactulose. In addition, they applied Zorbium in the office. We were told it was a type of kitty morphine and that she may be loopy for days. Within hours of arriving home I noticed a pattern with my cat. Her eyes were fully dilated, staring spells, head/body twitching, and apparent paranoia/hypervigilance. In addition she would go up to her food and water as though hungry/thirsty but didn't seem to understand what to do with it. She literally looked like a zombie. The next day we called VetMED and told them her symptoms. We were told those symptoms weren't typical and to come back if she didn't get better. I was hesitant due to them causing this to begin with, the distance (37 miles), and after I researched the drug Zorbium, I found those symptoms to be indeed typical in certain cases. She was merely exhibiting symptoms of opioid overdose and there are numerous examples of Zorbium related feline deaths online. Narcan was mentioned as a possible reversal agent but didn't respond well in the majority of cases I read so we tried to syringe food and water to help but in the end, 2 1/2 days from our VetMED visit, my cat passed. She never had a chance. I have no doubt she would still be here were it not for our VetMED visit and application of Zorbium. She maybe didn't have years left but she certainly had more than 62 hours. Further investigation revealed this drug was used off-label (listed for post-op pain), was only tested on "healthy" cats up to the age of 5, and this from Elanco (Zorbium manufacturer)..."The safe use of ZORBIUM has not been evaluated in debilitated cats or cats with renal, hepatic, cardiac, or respiratory disease."Why then was it used?..I've included before and after pics for clarity.
