However, it is crucial to address the significant concerns raised in customer reviews, particularly concerning the grooming department at this specific location:
- Grooming Dissatisfaction: Multiple reviews prominently feature severe dissatisfaction with the grooming services, specifically mentioning a groomer named Joel. Customers report instances of their dogs' hair being cut against instructions, resulting in drastic and undesirable transformations (e.g., a Yorkie looking like a Cocker Spaniel, a Pomeranian being shaved almost entirely). These incidents have caused significant distress to pet owners.
- Lack of Attention to Detail/Safety Concerns in Grooming: One review noted finding a tick on their dog immediately after grooming, raising concerns about the thoroughness of the grooming process and the attention paid to the pet's overall condition during the service.
- Customer Service Challenges: While some customers received refunds for unsatisfactory grooming, others reported initial resistance or miscommunication regarding compensation, indicating inconsistencies in how these issues are handled. The emotional impact of a poor grooming experience is palpable in the reviews, with customers expressing "disbelief" and "heartbreak."

Petco Reviews
I took my dog (Oreo, a Yorkie) to his first groomer (he’s 5 months). His hair was overgrown and matted and I was waiting for all his vaccination before scheduling a groomer. When I went in, I knew his body was going to be low because he was so matted, but the face was suppose to remain fluffy but cut. I showed inspo pic from Pinterest and Joel (the groomer) said he could do it. They couldn’t finish the appointment because my dog was anxious since it was his 1st visit. So they were only able to bath him and cut his body hair. His face looked the same and not cleaned. I even called asking if they washed his face because it was oily. I washed his face at home. I returned a few days later for them to finish the service I paid for and cut his face. When I return they shaved his face entirely. He went from being a Yorkie to a Cocker Spaniel. At the time I was in shock and didn’t react negatively. But as I was driving home my anger just escalated. I did call as soon as I got home but was left on hold. A few days later I’m reading reviews on google and the same groomer Joel had butcher other owners dog as well. I called today and spoke to someone who was really nice (don’t recall her name) but I am getting a refund. Just leaving this review for any future customer to be aware.Pics illustrated-Brown dog is the inspo pic from Pinterest-Oreo After the cut-Oreo before the cut
Jun 19, 2025 · Felixabeth GonzalezI had the most horrible experience any dog owner can have.I took my dog for a bath and haircut and have a beautiful Pomeranian. The groomer, Joel, cut all of his hair off. He looks like a hairless cat. Any professional would know better than to do that cut to a dog, especially a Pom. My dog’s beautiful hair is all GONE. I know it’s just hair, but he’s never had such short hair in his whole life. It’s not normal for his breed to have such short hair. I couldn’t even recognize my boy, and when I saw him, I started crying in disbelief. I felt so terrible that I took him there. To top it all off, I found a tick on him moments after we left. How is it that you take your dog to the groomer, and they cut all his hair off but don’t notice the tick? I saw it minutes after picking him up because his hair is so low you notice everything. My husband and I called them to let them know how upsetting this situation was. They immediately said to go back, and they would refund us.We were only 5 minutes away because we went to CVS to get a twister to remove the tick, so we drove over there for our refund, and they said they could only give us back 20% of what we paid. So, on top of everything, they lied to us. However, money doesn’t matter; it’s the principle of everything we have experienced. This is the most traumatic experience we have ever had with any groomer. I will never step foot into another Petco again. I would rather pay the extra money for a professional to touch my dog, not the people that they have working for them. Joel, shame on you!!Here are pictures of my dog before and after. It's so heartbreaking what they did to my beautiful boy's hair. Joel should not be trusted to touch any dog; he thinks he can do whatever he wants. We communicated that we didn't want his hair cut that low. We even used the example of different levels of cut that they have there, and he did not at all do what we asked. There is even a picture of a Pom that they have hanging on the wall, and I jokingly told him, " Don’t cut his hair that low, please, and guess what? My poor dog's hair is even lower than that. What a terrible experience. The haircut he got isn’t even neat; he destroyed my boy's hair. Smh.
May 25, 2025 · Shazana KayumeWhat a nightmare dealing with groomers and management at the New Milford Petco. They completely butchered my dog’s hair.Went for a hair cut and they shaved all my dog’s hair off. Now my dog looks like a hairless cat.You really can’t make this up smh.On top of that I found a tick on my dog right after and a cut behind his ear.Zero accountability.Zero communication.Zero professionalism. If you love your pet please don’t bring them here.
May 26, 2025 · Randy EscanoI took my sweet girl Korra for a grooming and I was so happy! Joel was great with her and she was well taken cared for. Korra and I thank you for a great experience!
Jun 22, 2025 · Mary WheelerOverall, my experience was excellent—the store is clean and bright, and the associates are friendly and helpful. I took off a star because the cat litter I needed was out of stock.
