---Danbury Aquarium and Supplies is conveniently located at 18 Mill Plain Rd rear, Danbury, CT 06811, USA. This address places it within a bustling commercial area of Danbury, a major city in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The "rear" designation indicates it's situated slightly off the main road, often behind another establishment, which is common for specialized businesses. Their website further clarifies that it is located "BEHIND MILL PLAIN DINER," providing a helpful landmark for locals.
For customers traveling by car, the location on Mill Plain Road offers relatively easy access from various parts of Danbury and surrounding towns like Bethel, Brookfield, and Ridgefield. Mill Plain Road is a well-known thoroughfare, and local drivers are likely familiar with the area. The Danbury location is a strategic choice, serving as a central hub for aquatic enthusiasts across Western Connecticut and potentially parts of New York's Putnam and Westchester counties, given its proximity to the state border. For local residents, having a specialized aquarium store within easy driving distance saves the time and effort of traveling to more distant locations for specific fish species or equipment. ---Danbury Aquarium and Supplies has several features and highlights that are evident from the provided information, showcasing both positive aspects and areas of concern based on customer experiences.
- Specialization in Aquatics: A primary highlight is their dedicated focus on aquariums, fish, and aquatic supplies. This specialization means they aim to offer a more in-depth selection and expertise compared to general pet stores, catering directly to the needs of the aquatic hobbyist community in Connecticut.
- Diverse Selection of Cichlids: One customer review specifically praised the purchase of "South American Cichlids," noting they "arrived healthy and colorful without stress." This indicates a strong offering in this popular fish family, which is a significant draw for cichlid enthusiasts. The mention of Red Devils and Jaguar cichlids further emphasizes this strength.
- Effective and Careful Live Fish Shipping: For customers outside direct local pickup, the company employs careful shipping practices. A positive review noted that shipments were "well packaged, with heat warmers, and thorough instructions on acclimating the fish." This commitment to safe transit is crucial for live animal delivery.
- In-Store and Online Presence: Danbury Aquarium and Supplies operates both a physical retail location in Danbury and an online store that ships across the continental US. This hybrid model offers flexibility for customers, allowing local patrons to visit in person and others to access their stock remotely.
- Potential for Customer Bonuses/Generosity: One positive review highlighted that the store "were kind enough to throw in an extra Jaguar," demonstrating a gesture of generosity that can enhance customer satisfaction.
- Concerns Regarding Discus Fish Quality and Sizing: However, a significant highlight, though negative, involves a customer's experience with Discus fish. Issues included receiving "cold barely alive 3" discus" when 4" were ordered, incorrect species (cobalt instead of blue checkerboard), and fish in "horrible shape with chunks missing from the fins." This points to potential inconsistencies in quality control, accurate sizing, and animal health for certain, particularly sensitive, species.
- Customer Service Responsiveness (Mixed): While one review highlighted positive interaction ("they were kind enough"), the negative review implies a lack of satisfactory resolution for issues encountered with the Discus order, leading to a "warn you to avoid this seller at all cost" sentiment. This suggests variability in customer service response to problems.
These features indicate that while Danbury Aquarium and Supplies has strengths in its specialization and some successful shipments, prospective customers, particularly for high-value or sensitive species like Discus, should consider all available feedback and potentially communicate directly with the store regarding expectations and guarantees before purchase.

---For aquatic enthusiasts across Connecticut, Danbury Aquarium and Supplies presents itself as a suitable, albeit nuanced, local resource for their passion. Its suitability for locals stems from its specialized focus and convenient location, though potential customers should approach with informed expectations.
Firstly, its primary benefit to locals is its dedicated specialization in aquatic life and supplies. In a state where general pet stores might only offer a limited selection, Danbury Aquarium and Supplies provides an extensive range of freshwater and saltwater fish, invertebrates, and corals, along with all the necessary dry goods. For Connecticut aquarists, this means a local option to find diverse species like South American Cichlids, as well as the specialized equipment needed for their unique setups, rather than relying solely on distant online retailers. This focus can be invaluable for sourcing specific items and receiving potentially specialized advice, crucial for a thriving aquarium.
Secondly, the store's physical presence in Danbury, CT, at 18 Mill Plain Rd rear (behind Mill Plain Diner), offers a tangible local point of contact. For residents across Fairfield County and nearby areas, this accessibility is a significant advantage. It allows customers to view livestock in person, speak with staff, and pick up bulky supplies without the logistical challenges and shipping costs associated with online-only purchases. While they do offer shipping, having a local storefront enables a direct connection and hands-on experience, which many aquarists prefer.
However, local customers should be aware of the mixed reviews, particularly regarding the quality and health of certain high-value species like Discus fish, and ensure clear communication about expectations and guarantees. Despite these concerns, for those seeking a broad selection of more common fish, invertebrates, and essential dry goods, or those needing a local physical shop for immediate supplies, Danbury Aquarium and Supplies fills a specific niche in the Connecticut pet market. It remains a key local destination for fostering the aquatic hobby within our community.

Danbury Aquarium and supplies Reviews
Purchase a few South American Cichlids from Danbury Aquariums and both shipments arrived well packaged, with heat warmers, and thorough instructions on acclimating the fish. The fish all arrived healthy and colorful without stress. I ordered two Red Devils and two Jaguar cichlids, they were kind enough to throw in an extra Jaguar which was very nice of them. The cichlids are in a 250 gallon aquarium.
Apr 03, 2025 · George AcfalleOrdered (2) 4" discus fish for over $200 and received cold barely alive 3" discus and if you know about Discus, there is a huge health and price difference between 3 and 4 inch discus. One of the fish was a cobalt and I ordered a blue checkerboard. Wrong fish, wrong size and in horrible shape with chunks missing from the fins as if they have fin rot or were being attacked and fins being eaten by other aggressive fish. I will include pictures. Have purchased 4" Discus from many online retailers and have never had such a bad experience. These fish were cold, small. Sick and very unhealthy. Medicating them now and hoping for the best. I'm not sure how he got many good reviews? There are also several bad reviews, but I would warn you to avoid this seller at all cost.
Feb 02, 2025 · Terry MitchellI have ordered 10 fish from Enio and I have absolutely no complaints. All of my fish have come from halfway across the country, and all have been happy and healthy. The business owner is very kind and a pleasure to work with. I HIGHLY recommend working with this business for shipping fish and or buying locally.
Dec 12, 2024 · Julia BlanchetteI have been seeking some parrot fresh water fish for awhile. I found them and decided to contact this store. I had the pleasure of being helped and assisted by Enio Albuquerque. He gave me great customer service, great communication and made sure my order was processed in a timely manner. I'm so excited and happy that he was available to help me complete my purchase today. Thank you Enio.
Apr 17, 2025 · Vanessa Plus FourCommunication with the store was easy and for the most part efficient except they do not listen and just want your money. I ordered 4 fish to add to my tank that had 2 large convicts. I needed the new fish to be as large as possible, I provided the store with pics of my fish for reference. What I got was 4 small fish, 2 of which were not what I ordered and 1 was so small he was killed pretty early on. They were greedy in my opinion and took advantage of my beginner status. I paid over $150 including shipping for 4 fish, 2 died unnecessarily due to size, the 2 remaining were supposed to be a rainbow cichlid and jewel cichlid. The rainbow is actually a salvini and the jewel is a mystery fish. I don't think I'll be using this establishment again any time in the near future.
