Based on customer reviews, the Banfield Pet Hospital on W Brandon Blvd in Brandon, FL, presents a mixed picture. While some aspects of the medical care itself may be adequate, significant concerns about operational professionalism and client experience stand out:
- Concern for Professionalism and Care Quality: One highly critical review alleges "very unprofessional" conduct, claiming the hospital will "rob your money and not take care of your dog." This customer's experience with a hematoma drainage that failed within 24 hours, alongside an admission from a doctor about "FORGOT to tell me she left a blood clot," raises serious questions about the thoroughness of the initial procedure and the transparency of communication.
- Medication Errors: A critical safety concern highlighted is the alleged error in dispensing medication: "they gave me the medications in the opposite bottles with opposite instructions." Such an error, especially with a potent drug like Rimadyl, could have severe consequences (liver or kidney failure), indicating a critical lapse in pharmaceutical protocols.
- Lack of Post-Procedure Support: The client's report of their dog "crying for 2 nights" without pain medication after a surgical procedure suggests a significant failure in post-operative care and pain management.
- Poor Management Response: Attempts to resolve issues with the manager were met with unhelpfulness, with the manager "not giving me a discount for the surgery she NEEDED from the beginning or helping me out at all," and a delay of "5 days to even speak to a manager." This indicates a lack of accountability and poor customer complaint resolution.
- Misleading Practices & Lack of Communication: The review claims the clinic will "do procedure after procedure just to charge you more money" and "will not take care of your pet the first time you bring them, they will have you bringing your dog in time and time again for the same issue." This points to a perceived pattern of unnecessary repeat visits and cost inflation.
- Inconsistent Appointment Handling & Empathy: Another review describes a "lack of communication and empathy" when a sick dog was denied a drop-off appointment due to "anxiety" that had never been previously mentioned, and the situation was "dismissed as if it wasn’t a big deal." This indicates a failure in pre-appointment communication and a lack of compassionate response to a sick animal.
- Membership Concerns: The regret expressed over signing up for the membership, combined with the perception of being "robbed" and dealing with "thieves," suggests dissatisfaction with the value and terms of their wellness plans at this specific location.
It is important for prospective clients to consider these detailed, negative experiences, as they highlight significant operational and ethical concerns at this specific Banfield Pet Hospital location.

For Floridian pet parents, who prioritize reliable, compassionate, and competent veterinary care, the experiences reported here highlight a potential lack of transparency, accountability, and genuine concern for animal well-being and owner peace of mind. Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
Brandon Banfield is very unprofessional, do not take your dog here! They will rob your money and not take care of your dog! My dog went in with a hematoma the size of a ping pong ball and they performed a “drainage.” Sent my dog home with no pain meds or anything, not even 24 hours later my dog had the hematoma back to the same size. the dr Alexandra Johnson stated she FORGOT to tell me she left a blood clot in the ear. I went in to get medication for my dog because they sent her home with nothing and my dog was crying for 2 nights, they gave me the medications in the opposite bottles with opposite instructions, if my dog would have taken the rimadyl every 8 hours instead of once a day she could have had liver or kidney failure! This is one stronggggggg medication! This is so out of control and I will be reporting them so they are no longer able to rob or mistreat these animals the way they are doing. They will do procedure after procedure just to charge you more money. I spoke to the manager and she stated she will not be giving me a discount for the surgery she NEEDED from the beginning or helping me out at all with my dog after explaining to her my concern and how my dog is doing and all the errors the office made while she was not there. I had to wait 5 days to even speak to a manager at that. This place it horrible, misleading, lack communication and they are thieves who will not take care of your pet the first time you bring them, they will have you bringing your dog in time and time again for the same issue.
Mar 19, 2025 · Yasmin CanouraI scheduled a drop-off appointment at Banfield Pet Hospital, but when I arrived, I was told they couldn’t intake my dog due to her having anxiety. This has never been mentioned at any of her previous appointments, and I was not notified of any concerns before my visit. My dog was sick, yet they unable to see her and dismissed the situation as if it wasn’t a big deal. The lack of communication and empathy was very disappointing. I would not recommend this location, as they do not seem to genuinely care about their patients.
Mar 06, 2025 · Brandy MarieSince November 2024, I had been bringing my dogs to Banfield. Over the course of six months, one of them was seen around eight times for seizures. At every visit, they supposedly performed blood tests and kept telling me everything was fine.On Friday, May 9, I took him in because he had a lump near his anus and another one I could feel in his abdomen. As part of the wellness plan my dog had with Banfield, he was due for routine bloodwork, which was performed that day. I was told everything was fine — no issues detected. They diagnosed him with an obstructed anal gland, claimed the abdominal swelling was fluid retention related to that, and sent him home with medication. On Monday, May 12, I brought him back because his abdomen was still extremely swollen. I was told again it was part of the healing process. I insisted something was wrong, and only after pushing for further tests did they agree to do X-rays. Once the X-ray results came back concerning, they decided to repeat the bloodwork. This time, the results were completely abnormal.I find it unacceptable and alarming that in just 3 days, between Friday and Monday, the bloodwork could go from “completely fine” to “everything is wrong.” How was such a drastic change missed initially — especially considering the advanced state of cancer later found by the emergency clinic that same day? This kind of oversight shows a severe lack of proper medical care. After this, I contacted Banfield’s corporate office to report what had happened. They told me someone from their team would reach out to me within 3 to 5 days. It has now been more than 15 days, and absolutely no one has contacted me.At the emergency clinic, they discovered my dog had extremely advanced, metastatic cancer throughout his body. Sadly, he is no longer with us.I am heartbroken and deeply disappointed with the medical negligence, misdiagnosis, and total lack of responsibility from Banfield. This is unacceptable care for any pet, and no family should have to experience this.
Jun 03, 2025 · Melanie Rodriguez VazquezI went to this location because I was visiting a vet in Sarasota which was too far to keep traveling. When I purchased my puppy, the Sarasota vet was its preferred vet. I was wanting to switch from pet insurance to a wellness puppy plan. So I go online to do the first visit free appointment to get my pup on a wellness plan. Service here is trash. I get here early, was put in a room to be kicked out of room for arriving early and was told to leave and come back as my appointment wasn’t for another 30 minutes.I insisted on just waiting. Only for someone to come out 5 minutes not even to put me back in the room I was just removed from. Then they asked what am I here for. I explain to establish my pup as a patient because her vet was in Sarasota. They did not discuss the wellness plans with me at all. The doctors came in looked at my dog, took notes and was done. The most they did was took her weight. At checkout I am still expecting the “enrollment “. So the receptionist tells me what I owe and I told her I booked through the website for the first time visit free and she insisted I needed a paper coupon. I pay the charge left out came back in and asked why wasn’t this visit credited towards the enrollment of the puppy wellness plan. She then tells me they’d need to do another exam more testing🤯. Literally the whole purpose of me being there! So she schedules another appointment for today to drop off my pup. After much thought, the veterinarian wasn’t exactly what we were used to in Sarasota as far as niceness. Now I don’t know if the service here is just that bad, or this place assumed because of my skin color that I couldn’t afford the services offered. My puppy was $4900, I make six figures! And I won’t waste my time or money here because it wasn’t initially valued!

Feb 23, 2025 · Desiree CarterMy experience so far with this location has been horrible. I have been with Banfield (other locations) for 12 years and only started going to this location because Dr. Day from Bloomingdale relocated here. My past experiences with Banfield have always been positive until Clayton Plaza.Front desk lacks professionalism, empathy and customer service skills. My pet has anxiety going to the vet and Dr. Day have worked so hard to gain my pet's trust and have not seen any other doctor since. I've followed her to 2 different locations over the last 8 years because that's how much my pet and I trust her.But unfortunately, the clayton Plaza front desk staff might just break that streak.
