AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, Inc. Introduce
For bird enthusiasts and compassionate individuals across Arizona, AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, Inc. stands as a crucial pillar in the community. More than just a pet store, this organization is a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit, all-volunteer charitable corporation committed to meeting the needs of surrendered, displaced, abandoned, neglected, and abused exotic birds. If you're considering welcoming a feathered friend into your home, seeking to surrender a bird, or simply want to support an incredible cause, understanding the vital work and services of AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, Inc. is an excellent starting point for any Arizona resident.
The core mission of AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, Inc. is deeply rooted in providing comprehensive care and finding loving forever homes for exotic birds. They operate as a no-kill facility, emphasizing rehabilitation, behavioral therapy, retirement, and adoption services. A significant aspect of their work involves educating the public about the complex needs and care requirements of exotic birds, sharing decades of experience to ensure successful placements and responsible pet ownership. Every dollar donated directly supports their operating costs, including housing, healthcare, superior nutrition, grooming, behavioral modification, stimulating environments, and proper socialization for the birds in their care. Their dedication stems from the understanding that many captive-bred exotic birds are still intrinsically wild animals, and their goal is to facilitate a successful transition into loving human homes, or to provide a permanent sanctuary when adoption isn't possible.
AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, Inc. is located at 2724 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85257, USA. This address places the rescue in a well-known area of Scottsdale, making it generally accessible for residents throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area. North Scottsdale Road is a major thoroughfare, ensuring clear routes to the facility from various parts of the city and surrounding communities. The 85257 zip code signifies a presence in a central and often bustling part of Scottsdale.
Given that AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, Inc. is an avian rescue and sanctuary, its accessibility might differ from a traditional retail pet store. While they have a physical location, visits may be structured around appointments, adoption processes, or specific open hours rather than casual walk-ins, to ensure the well-being of the birds and the efficiency of their operations. Information suggests they serve the Southwestern United States, with their public avian rescue/sanctuary located in Tempe, Arizona, though the provided address is in Scottsdale. It's advisable for prospective visitors to confirm the exact location and visiting procedures directly with the rescue via phone before traveling. The Scottsdale location's presence on a major road typically offers convenient parking options for visitors, making it feasible to transport supplies or adopted birds. The commitment to operating in such an accessible area underscores their desire to connect with and serve the Arizona community effectively.

- No-Kill Philosophy: Their commitment to being a no-kill rescue ensures that every bird receives the opportunity for rehabilitation and a chance at a new life, regardless of its history or condition upon arrival.
- Comprehensive Care: All donated funds go directly towards providing high-quality housing, nutrition, health care, and behavioral modification, demonstrating a strong commitment to the well-being of the birds.
- Thorough Adoption Process: The multi-step screening process, including interviews and home studies, is designed to ensure that birds are placed in stable and appropriate environments, prioritizing the bird's welfare above all else.
- Supportive Community for Birds: As noted by a positive reviewer, the rescue is "amazing and everyone who works here is very sweet and caring and knowledgeable about birds." This highlights a compassionate environment for the animals.
- Availability of Supplies: The presence of an "amazing selection of toys and perches and food" provides a convenient resource for bird owners, complementing their rescue mission.
However, it's also important to acknowledge customer experiences. One review highlights a "very disappointing and heartbreaking experience" due to perceived rude and unhelpful staff, particularly concerning a bird with a visible wound. This reviewer expressed a lack of compassion and professionalism, and concern for how the birds are cared for. Another review defends the rescue, citing strict adherence to rules (like sanitization and sign-in) as essential for the birds' well-being, and praised the staff's knowledge and care. These contrasting perspectives suggest that while the organization has strong merits in its mission and bird care, individual customer interactions can vary.

AZ Exotic Bird Rescue, Inc. Reviews
I was here today when the guy walked in wearing a hat and headphones, ignored all the signs that are on the door and the walls that ask “PLEASE SIGN IN AND SANITIZE” didn’t acknowledge anyone and walked straight into the room with birds, where he was asked if he sanitized and signed in which he replied “yes” but since he lied he was asked to go sanitize before proceeding he rushed out of here. There’s no way she walked up to him because she was busy putting a perch into the cage for the bird, also I was there and witnessed the whole thing.I’m posting pictures of the signs that are on the door before you walk into the building and on the wall for proof. There are rules to every establishment and you can’t be upset because you got caught not following the rules and then go post a bad review. Also I want to add that the rescue is amazing and everyone who works here is very sweet and caring and knowledgeable about birds. They also have amazing selection of toys and perches and food! I would recommend this place 100% to everyone
Mar 16, 2025 · Nadia KarplyukI had a very disappointing and heartbreaking experience at AZ Exotic Bird Rescue in Scottsdale. I called a few days prior to ask about a parrot and the woman who answered was surprisingly rude. I gave the benefit of the doubt everyone has bad days so I decided to visit in person. When I arrived, I was met with the same cold, unhelpful attitude. The woman at the front desk never got up to assist us, not even when we were clearly struggling to safely return a parrot, Coconut, a cockatoo back into his cage. It took nearly 20 minutes of us asking for help before she finally came over, and even then, she complained the entire time, saying we shouldn’t have taken him out if we couldn’t put him back. I tried to explain that I was worried about hurting him, as we had noticed he was actively tearing at a painful wound on his leg. She dismissed my concern, saying “it’s not my fault how they come in,” and that if he wasn’t “pouring blood,” he was fine. She eventually grabbed a towel, chased the parrot back into the cage, then followed us to the front still complaining. I left with tears in my eyes and simply said, “You weren’t very helpful.”I went there with genuine love and concern, hoping to adopt and give a bird a safe, forever home. But the lack of compassion and professionalism was deeply discouraging not just for me, but for the birds that depend on humans to be their voice. I hope this feedback helps bring attention to how potential adopters are treated, and more importantly, how the birds are cared for. I pray that poor Coconut gets the vet care he clearly needs.
Jun 28, 2025 · Maggie BrinkleyI’d like to say (after being surprised by the negative reviews here) that I used to volunteer here from 2018-2020. I know for a FACT, as I’d go in the mornings and help do this, that those cages are cleaned every single day (new liners put at the bottom w/ old thrown out), fresh water, fresh food, etc. every single day. Birds DO make messes throughout the day, so I just want to point out that those birds ARE cared for properly. The other volunteers as well as the owners are VERY knowledgeable and dedicated to these birds, and thoroughly educate and vet any potential adopters/will not adopt out if it’s not a good fit. This isn’t a bird boutique, it is a RESCUE, and many of those birds have been through hell and back- Mandy and the rest of the staff ensure that the birds never have to go back into their terrible situations again. I personally helped Mandy with an intake of an Amazon named Buster who had clearly been abused by his owner (his beak was snapped in HALF and bleeding) and Mandy was so kind and gentle to him and he got a wonderful home. I had considered adopting myself, however I was not in the right place to take on a parrot at that time. Maybe her personality isn’t for everyone, but she is a GOOD person who is dedicated to those birds, as are the rest of the staff. Finally, for those complaining about the adoption fees, this RESCUE (not store) has to front all the medical expenses on top of everything else for these birds, as they often come in abused and stressed (feathers being plucked out take forever to grow back, if at all!), asking $600-$800 for the bird AND cage is not unreasonable - you will easily spend 3x as much or more depending on the bird buying from a store or breeder outright. This place is wonderful, and I hope to return to volunteer again. Sadly, I no longer live in that area. God bless!- Carliann Shepherd, previous volunteer 🦜💖
Apr 24, 2025 · C. S.I've been a frequent visitor and supporter of this parrot rescue for the last couple years. One of my favorite things to do with my free time is to visit Mandy and the birds -- it truly is such an important asset to the community. It’s important to remember that this is a rescue, not a pet store. Some negative reviews seem to come from individuals expecting to adopt exotic birds without the necessary experience or understanding of their care needs. Mandy takes the time to sit down with prospective adopters, thoroughly assess their knowledge, and ensure their living situation is suitable. If she doesn’t feel it’s a good fit, she won’t adopt out a bird—this simply reflects her dedication to their well-being and shouldn't be taken personally. The complaints here about the conditions of the birds' cages or care are baseless. It’s hard not to assume these are from individuals upset about being denied an adoption. I encourage anyone to visit and judge for themselves. The birds here are clearly well cared for, and I’ve seen them successfully rehomed with responsible, experienced bird owners time and time again. Also, Mandy is committed to preventing bird breeding and ensuring her birds go to homes where they’ll be cherished, not exploited. Her firm stance may not please everyone, but it underscores her devotion to doing what’s best for the birds.
Jan 10, 2025 · Brian ThompsonI have visited since I moved here.y African Grey and I have always been greeted and treated with respect and care. My Grey gets her trims with perfection and love from Mandy...always. I buy my bird food here all the time and add toys periodically, too. When there are other customers in the building, I've noticed that they, too, are treated very well in a friendship and courteous way.I also always notice how the boarded birds are treated. I cannot say anything higher about the staff there as they have my highest recommendation.I trust Mandy with my Grey 100%.
