- Diverse Selection of Exotic Fish: We provide a wide array of exotic freshwater and potentially some saltwater fish. Customers have noted finding "so many different kinds of fish that I've never seen before," including "really huge goldfish from their koi pond" and "albino goldfish and a shubunkin with 2 different colored eyes." This indicates a varied and interesting selection.
- Live Aquatic Plants: We offer a selection of lush, beautiful live plants crucial for creating natural and healthy aquarium environments. We strive to provide guidance on plant care and their benefits for tank inhabitants.
- Aquarium Substrates and Decor: Our store carries various substrates and decorative elements to help you set up and aquascape your tank, providing options for different aquatic environments.
- Basic Aquarium Supplies: We offer essential supplies for maintaining your tank, though the primary focus appears to be on the livestock and live plants. This would typically include fish food, water conditioners, and basic filters.
- Customer Assistance and Basic Troubleshooting: Our staff is generally available to "answer all my questions" and provide information on fish care and common issues. One customer mentioned being told "what was wrong and why my fish weren't living," indicating a willingness to help diagnose problems.
- Sales and Specials: We hold occasional sales and specials, as evidenced by a customer review mentioning "great sales and specials for their 2 year anniversary," providing opportunities for customers to find good deals.
Las Vegas Exotic Fish presents several features and highlights that draw in customers from across Nevada, alongside aspects that require careful consideration, as reflected in customer feedback.
- Unique and Diverse Fish Selection: A major highlight is the availability of "so many different kinds of fish that I've never seen before," including interesting goldfish varieties. This wide and often unique selection is a strong draw for hobbyists looking beyond common pet store offerings.
- Helpful and Knowledgeable Staff (with caveats): Customers like Diana and Mike are noted for being "so welcoming and helpful," demonstrating deep knowledge and "tons of love for the hobby." This positive experience highlights instances of excellent customer service where staff genuinely share expertise and passion.
- Healthy-Looking Livestock and Setups (initial impressions): Initial impressions from some customers describe "all the set ups looked well done and livestock happy," suggesting that the store generally maintains good conditions for their aquatic life.
- Good Selection of Live Plants and Substrates: The availability of "beautiful lush plants and substrate" is a positive feature for aquarists looking to create natural and balanced tank environments.
- Local Business Support: Many customers appreciate supporting a local business, as one reviewer stated, "Awesome local business, here's to many more years!", fostering a sense of community.
- Direct and Honest Feedback from Staff (in some instances): In one significant instance, an employee (not Steve) immediately identified that tetras in their tank had "ick" and acknowledged that they "never should have sold me these fish," indicating honesty and a willingness to acknowledge issues, offering a future resolution. This shows a potential for integrity in dealing with problems, although it arose from a negative experience.
However, it is crucial for prospective customers to be aware of the following, as highlighted by a detailed customer review:
- Inconsistent Fish Health Protocols: A significant concern is the report of fish (rummy nose tetras) being sold that were infected with "ick" and subsequently caused a devastating loss of other healthy fish in a customer's well-maintained tank. The internal acknowledgment by one employee that fish "never should have been sold" due to visible illness points to potential inconsistencies in health screening or quarantine practices.
- Impact on Customer's Existing Aquarium: The rapid spread of disease leading to the death of multiple established, healthy fish (including a discus and rainbow fish) from newly introduced stock is a serious issue for any aquarist and reflects negatively on the health standards of the purchased fish.
- Concerns about Integrity: The customer expressed a strong sentiment that "employees at this establishment don’t care about what they are selling you regardless of the type of fish it is or how much it costs. The integrity just isn’t there." This perception, stemming from a significant negative experience, is a critical point for potential buyers to consider.

Las Vegas Exotic Fish holds a unique position for locals in Nevada, particularly those in the Las Vegas area, who are passionate about the diverse and often niche world of exotic aquatic life. Its central location on E Sunset Rd provides convenient access for enthusiasts across the valley, ensuring that a broad selection of unique fish and lush plants is within reach. For many in the Nevada aquatic community, the appeal lies in the potential to discover fish "never seen before," fostering excitement and expanding their hobby horizons. The positive interactions reported by some customers, highlighting staff members like Diana and Mike who possess deep knowledge and a genuine love for the hobby, underscore the potential for valuable advice and a welcoming atmosphere. This personal touch and expertise are vital for both beginners and experienced aquarists.
However, it is imperative for local customers to approach their purchases with informed caution, as evidenced by a significant and detailed negative experience involving the sale of diseased fish. While the store does appear to have staff willing to acknowledge issues, the impact of such incidents on a home aquarium can be devastating, leading to considerable financial loss and emotional distress. This highlights the importance of rigorous quarantine procedures for any new aquatic livestock, regardless of the source. For Nevada locals who value a wide and unique selection of exotic fish and plants, Las Vegas Exotic Fish offers an enticing array. However, a mindful approach to purchasing and diligent quarantine practices upon introduction to your home aquarium are highly recommended to mitigate potential risks. Ultimately, while the store provides a specialized resource, careful consideration of all customer experiences will help locals make the best decisions for their aquatic endeavors in the Silver State.

Las Vegas Exotic Fish Reviews
Our first time here Diana and Mike were so welcoming and helpful. Clearly they not only knew their stuff but also really had tons of love for the hobby! We went home with the most adorable healthy shrimp, beautiful lush plants and substrate. All the set ups looked well done and livestock happy. If you're looking to go the first week of June they are having great sales and specials for their 2 year anniversary. Awesome local business, here's to many more years!
Jun 07, 2025 · Ina ClavanoCustomers, please take time to read this.I am not one to normally leave negative reviews as I understand how it portrays a business, but in this case I have to.Something to keep in mind before I start my story about my tank is that I do weekly 25-30% water changes, there are never any readings of ammonia or nitrite and only 5-10ppm of nitrate. The tank is fully planted and doing so well that I have a hard time controlling the plants. But onto my story:Recently I bought 6 rummy nose tetras from here through Steve to add to my 36 gallon tank that had 1 adult healthy blue discus and 3 healthy dwarf rainbow fish. Within 2 days, 3 of the tetras died and 2 days later both of the female rainbow fish were dead as well. The rainbow fish showed signs of ick that spread very quickly. So yesterday I went back to the store to let them know so we took a look at their tank with all of the tetras in it. Almost all of them had ick. The guy working there (not Steve, it was another guy) identified that immediately and said Steve never should have sold me these fish. He said to just come see him when I the fish in my tank are healthy again and he will hook me up with some fish. I started ick treatment as soon as I got home. Fast forward to today when I got home from work and my healthy discus is dead when she was alive this morning. Whether it was the ick or another disease these fish brought to my tank, it has slowly killed off my entire tank except for 3 of the rummy nose tetras I added last week and a single male dwarf rainbow fish. The sad part is the employee confirmed their fish were the cause of this.I don’t expect any returns or free fish from this, I really just want people to know that I truly think the employees at this establishment don’t care about what they are selling you regardless of the type of fish it is or how much it costs. The integrity just isn’t there. Las Vegas Exotic Fish, please do better and customers please be warned. Thanks for reading this very long review.
Jun 04, 2025 · Jesse WescoattThis is a great fish store if you want fresh water fish. Their saltwater fish and coral selection is minimal. Steve is the only knowledgeable one on the store. They have minimal equipment and supplies but definitely worth checking out. They also charge you to use your credit card. Which is an expense of doing business and a write off that shouldn’t be passed on to the customer.
May 27, 2025 · D Tawesome staff. The people there were very friendly and knowledgeable, Steven was very patient with all my questions, and very passionate about anything aquatic, with a great selection of healthy selection of anything aquatic,

He brought them all the way to Centennial hills from the shop. That's killer customer service and now I can make my video today. Big shout out and you have yourself even more of a loyal customer.
