Norwalk Veterinary Hospital and The Boarding House presents several notable features and highlights, emphasizing their integrated approach and dedication to animal comfort. However, it's important to also acknowledge some points raised by past client experiences.
- Integrated Care Model: The combination of a full-service veterinary hospital with boarding, grooming, and daycare facilities is a significant convenience. This means pets can receive medical attention should issues arise during a boarding stay, and owners can manage multiple pet care needs at one location.
- Dedicated Boarding Facilities: The Boarding House offers separate and carefully designed areas for dogs and cats, ensuring a more relaxed environment. Features like individual ventilation units in dog kennels, noise reduction paneling, and a quiet cat room with "kitty condos" indicate a focus on animal comfort and hygiene.
- Emphasis on Pet Comfort and Stress Reduction in Boarding: Details such as playing light jazz or classical music, providing night lights, using a special atomizer for pleasant aromas, offering plants and decorative items for a "homey touch," and having climate-controlled areas highlight a strong effort to create a calming and comfortable environment for boarded pets. The "day trial run at no charge for first-time boarders" also demonstrates a commitment to ensuring a good fit.
- Security and Safety Measures for Boarding: A comprehensive security system, including smoke detectors, sprinklers, motion detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors, monitored 24 hours a day, provides significant peace of mind for pet owners. Fire doors and walls further protect the boarding area.
- Team of Experienced Veterinarians: The hospital notes that Drs. Janice & Charles Duffy have "years of experience treating serious conditions and offering regular pet wellness care." Their long-standing presence in the community indicates a depth of knowledge.
However, it is crucial to address the concerns raised in recent customer reviews:
- Concerns Regarding Client Communication and Empathy: Several reviews express significant distress over perceived lack of communication and empathy, particularly in sensitive situations like euthanasia. Comments such as "no call from him after dog needed to be put down" and "I did not receive a phone call or card with their condolences... In fact, when I called the front desk and told them, they said they knew. I believe this was extraordinarily cold hearted" indicate areas where client relations have caused considerable pain.
- Availability and Workload Management: The comment "not available when needed and no call from him" suggests potential issues with veterinarian accessibility and follow-up, which could stem from managing a large caseload.
These points suggest that while the facility offers a broad range of services and comfortable amenities for pets, potential clients should consider their expectations regarding personal communication, especially during challenging times.

Norwalk Veterinary Hospital and The Boarding House Reviews
too many pets being cared for by Norwalk Vet has lead too poor care. Dr Duffy, nice enough guy, but not available when needed and no call from him after dog needed to be put down. really weak on his part and would never recommend this place to anyone.
May 12, 2025 · BrianI had been going to this practice for 9 years with my English Bulldog. In fact, Dr Charles Duffy helped deliver him because bulldogs need C- sections. I unfortunately to put my dog down over Xmas because I found out through Cornell Vet ER that he was riddled with cancer( confirmed by necropsy). What bothers me is that I did not receive a phone call or card with their condolences. The ER( that barely knew us), Chewy ( who delivered the dog food), and even the pet insurance company all sent cards. But not one word from the practice who knew us very well ( my bulldog was a frequent flier there…, the office knew the sound of my voice). No card, no phone call. Nothing. In fact, when I called the front desk and told them, they said they knew. I believe this was extraordinarily cold hearted. Beware.
Feb 22, 2025 · AlisonI compared the vet my mother uses with this one and the treatment for similar issues was like night and day. I know things are tough right now, so I gave an extra star to be fair. But basically their response was to see a specialist. I'm not sure why you'd bother to see them at all if you need a specialist for common ailments.
Jan 25, 2025 · Noelle SparrowAmazing vets and staff! I’ve had my dog Chase here since we adopted him at 10 weeks. No matter which vet you see, they are all loving, caring and most importantly knowledgeable. Never an issue to get an appointment. Always have an answer to any concern. Wouldn’t take my dog elsewhere.
Mar 24, 2023 · KC KreigI boarded my dog here and got her groomed. She came back happy, healthy, and with a great haircut! The only this I wish is that they had a camera system where you could watch your dog, or if they could send some photos/videos of your dog when you're away (granted I didn't ask them to but it would be a nice addition if they offered that). I also wish there were more photos on their page of their facilities and what it looks like on the inside, I think that would help new people like me choosing a place to board their dog when they're away. Other than that, my dog seemed to have a great time!
