Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic Introduce
For us pet parents across North Carolina, ensuring our beloved animal companions receive the best possible veterinary care is a top priority. This is especially true for owners of exotic pets, as finding a clinic with specialized expertise for unique animals can be a challenge. In Raleigh, NC, Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic aims to serve this broad spectrum of needs, providing care for both traditional household pets and a wide array of exotic species.
Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic positions itself as a comprehensive veterinary solution, aiming to cater to the diverse needs of pet owners in the Raleigh area. Their dual focus, highlighted by the "Exotic Animal Clinic" in their name, suggests a commitment to a broader range of species than many conventional veterinary practices. While individual experiences can vary, as is common with any service provider, the clinic's specialized capabilities for exotic animals have certainly made a significant impact on some clients. This article will provide an informative overview of Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic, detailing its location and accessibility, the services it aims to offer, its distinguishing features, and how it fits into the local veterinary landscape for North Carolina pet owners.
Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic boasts a convenient location within a well-known retail area, making it relatively easy to access for many pet owners in and around Raleigh, NC. The clinic is situated in the Harris Teeter Shopping Center at 8109 Fayetteville Rd Suite 125, Raleigh, NC 27603, USA.
Being part of a shopping center offers several practical benefits. There is typically ample parking available, reducing the stress of finding a spot, especially when transporting pets. Its location on Fayetteville Road, a significant thoroughfare, means it is accessible from various parts of Raleigh, including the southern and southwestern sectors, as well as nearby communities like Garner, Fuquay-Varina, and Holly Springs. While one reviewer mentioned a 45-minute drive to another clinic as a "downside" compared to their 5-minute drive to Middle Creek, this implies the clinic's location is indeed quite convenient for a segment of the local population. The presence within a shopping center often means better visibility and ease of navigation compared to standalone clinics on less prominent roads.
Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic aims to offer a comprehensive range of veterinary services, catering to both traditional companion animals (dogs and cats) and a variety of exotic species. While specific detailed lists of all services were not provided in the reviews, based on their name and client experiences, their offerings would typically include:
Wellness Examinations: Routine check-ups for all species, crucial for preventative care and early detection of health issues, tailored to the specific needs of each animal.
Vaccinations: Essential immunizations for common diseases in dogs, cats, and potentially species-specific vaccinations for exotic animals where appropriate.
Exotic Animal Care: This is a major area of specialization. They provide veterinary services for a wide range of non-traditional pets, including but likely not limited to:
- Reptiles (e.g., snakes like the 13ft reticulated python mentioned in a review)
- Birds
- Small Mammals (e.g., rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets)
- Amphibians
Diagnostic Services: Likely including in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams) and imaging (X-rays/radiography, possibly ultrasound) to accurately diagnose various conditions in both traditional and exotic pets.
Surgical Procedures: Performing a range of surgeries, from routine spay/neuter to more complex soft tissue operations, potentially including specialized surgeries for exotic animals.
Dental Care: Comprehensive dental health services for dogs and cats, and potentially for exotic animals whose dental needs differ significantly.
Parasite Control: Prevention and treatment for internal and external parasites, tailored to the species and lifestyle of the pet.
Nutritional Counseling: Guidance on appropriate diets for various species, which is particularly critical and often complex for exotic animals.
Behavioral Consultations: Offering advice and solutions for behavioral challenges in pets.
Pharmacy Services: On-site access to necessary medications and prescription diets.
Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic has some notable features and highlights, particularly in their specialized care, though client experiences can sometimes be mixed.
Specialized Exotic Animal Expertise: This is arguably their strongest highlight. The ability to treat a "13ft reticulated python" and receive "Amazing service" with a "more than fair price" demonstrates a unique and valuable capability that is not common among general veterinary clinics. For owners of reptiles, birds, small mammals, and other exotic pets in North Carolina, this specialization fills a critical void.
Commitment to Unique Pet Needs: The fact that they are equipped and willing to handle large and potentially challenging exotic animals, and even assist with naming a new pet, indicates a passion for these unique creatures and a dedication to their well-being.
Customer Referral Confidence: The reviewer stating "I'll definitely go to them for all my needs and refer them to everybody I know!!!" speaks to a high level of satisfaction and trust for their exotic animal services, suggesting positive outcomes and excellent client relations for this specific type of care.
Convenient Location (for some): For those in the immediate vicinity, the clinic's location within a Harris Teeter Shopping Center provides easy access and convenience for combining pet care with daily errands, as implied by the "5 mins vs 45 mins" comment.
Areas for Potential Improvement (Based on a mixed review): One review highlights a significant negative experience regarding a sudden refusal of service for a rabbit due to a "previous incident" that was unclear to the client, along with a lack of direct communication from the vet. This suggests that while their exotic animal care can be outstanding, consistency in client communication and internal record-keeping, especially concerning client relations or past issues, might be an area for the clinic to review. Prompt and direct communication, particularly when refusing service, is crucial for maintaining professional standards and client trust. Issues with "failing to place critical pain prescriptions as promised" also point to potential logistical challenges in the past that may need addressing.

Middle Creek Veterinary Hospital & Exotic Animal Clinic Reviews
I made an appointment to bring our rabbit in for an exam.Five minutes into the pre-exam, the tech walked out, and returned several minutes later saying 'we can't see your pet'.When i asked why, she mentioned the vet said it was due to a 'previous incident'. The tech apologized & said she missed a note in the computer. When I asked if I could speak to the vet to discuss, I was told she was 'in surgery'.I had to collect our rabbit, put him back into the cage and drive home.I have not been to this vet in many years, and other than questioning a charge perhaps 7 years ago, cannot think of why I was refused service. I checked my social media reviews and could not find anything that I posted about this business, so I left more befuddled rather than angry. There have been some prior incidents where we verbally (politely) criticized them for failing to place critical pain prescriptions as promised (then having to run across town to another vet to have them filled), but why doing such would result in being banned, then refusing to even discuss the matter is highly unprofessional.I made an appointment to Avian & Exotic Animal Care where he was seen 2 days later, the downside being having to drive 45 mins vs 5.
Jan 04, 2025 · David HartmanThey helped my 13ft reticulated python. Amazing service and more than fair price!!! I'll definitely go to them for all my needs and refer them to everybody I know!! they even helped pick an amazing name "Lilith" that I will definitely be sticking with!!!
Mar 22, 2025 · Aaron VaughanI loved the excitement of bringing my beloved hamster in and appreciate the ability to get in quick and especially the text communication. One thing I wasn't prepared for was the lack of knowledge of hamsters. I believe i found myself educating them on the issue and simply paying for two appointments in order to access (3) .002ml droppers of treatment which altogether cost me over $200. Eek. I was also a little bummed they didn't really examine or otherwise confirm her health or age which,, I can completely understand on one hand that people probably rarely want to pay a vet bill for their hamsters so its probably not often they work with them but while I appreciate getting seen, I don't know that I'd come here specifically for future hamster care. Everyone was absolutely great tho and appreciate the willingness to treat/see "exotic" pets as there are not many at all in Raleigh area
May 29, 2025 · Gina MarieCompletely blown away by this gem of a practice! The environment Dr. Swan and her team have created is one of warmth, welcome, compassion, patience, and joy for animals and their human families alike! From fantastic communication over text and email, to giving my toddler crayons and animal pictures to color while we waited, from sitting on the floor during our entire appointment to make our dog - the star of the visit - feel comfortable and safe, to providing upfront, transparent, and competitive pricing - and above all, their clear dedication and passion for the health, safety, and well-being of all in their care, we could not have been more impressed or delighted by our first visit. HIGHLY recommend!
Mar 15, 2025 · Megan CapusTook our cat there a year or two ago and they respected our boundaries for treatment. Were very kind. Was told the cat most likely had a terminal diagnosis, but that turned out not to be the case. Did not hold that against the practice in any way, since the cat couldn't tell us what was really going on. Did call several times regarding lab work and it took then a while to call back with results. Recently, we have called twice in 2 days and left voicemails and no return calls. This is incredibly frustrating when you're trying to find treatment as soon as possible. Our cat already has extreme anxiety about leaving the house and to get established at a new clinic would just be additional stress. Wish the clinic was more responsive, will probably be trying to find a new vet
