Afford-A-Care Pet Hospital Introduce
For pet owners across Central Iowa, the cost of high-quality veterinary care can often be a significant concern, creating a barrier to essential preventative and medical treatment. Afford-A-Care Pet Hospital in Des Moines, IA, was established with a clear mission to bridge this gap, offering Veterinary Care that is both top-tier and genuinely affordable. Operating as a full-service clinic, Afford-A-Care focuses on providing the dogs and cats of the region with the core services they need to live long, healthy lives.
Since its founding in 1996, the hospital has embraced a philosophy of making essential pet health accessible, rooted in the legacy of providing services at a fair price. This commitment is evident in the positive feedback from Pet Parents throughout the Des Moines area, who frequently highlight the "amazing" and "very competitive" pricing, noting that they get "great service and good prices" without feeling like they are sacrificing the quality of the care their beloved animals receive.
The hospital is a comprehensive Veterinarian facility, meaning that while they focus heavily on affordability, they do not skimp on capability. Their services range from crucial preventative steps like Puppy Shots and Kitten Shots to complex Surgical Services and in-depth Diagnostic Tests. They offer on-site capabilities for Blood Work and Rays Diagnostics (X-rays), enabling the medical team to quickly and accurately diagnose and treat various health issues.
A cornerstone of the hospital’s approach is ensuring transparency and client involvement. Customers routinely express their appreciation that the staff at Afford-A-Care will "tell you everything they're going to do beforehand and they tell you the price of anything they would do before they would do it." This level of honesty builds trust and allows Iowa families to make informed decisions about their pet's health without unexpected financial strain. It is a refreshing experience for many, especially those who have felt overcharged or rushed at other facilities.
Furthermore, the clinic is deeply committed to Compassionate Care. Reviewers consistently describe the staff as "friendly, understanding, and informative," with a palpable love for the animals they treat. One client shared a powerful story of seeking a second opinion for a small kitten with a severe respiratory infection; while another clinic dismissed the owner's concerns, the vets at Afford-A-Care "helped me and started treating him right away," highlighting their responsiveness to client concerns and their dedication to saving and improving the lives of vulnerable animals. This blend of medical excellence and true human-animal connection is what makes Afford-A-Care a highly recommended local resource.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’m very disappointed in Afford-A-Care and how they have handled the situation with Low Cost Spay Clinic. Several employees are suddenly without jobs with no notice given. Not only is this sad for clients who love the staff at Low Cost and the staff, but the animals as well. For those who do not know, Low Cost is closed until further notice. The locks were changed and this sign was on the door. No employees notified. I am not employee, so I do not know the details as to why this is happening. But I do know that this situation was not handled appropriately and was handled unprofessionally. Do better, for people AND animals.
August 14 · Steeli SeminLow cost wellness services are literally life saving. The staff were friendly, understanding, and informative. They took good care of my little feral rescue kitten, and we'll be back for all our future needs!
July 31 · S Yaffordacare truly has saved me thousands of dollars while also providing great care and friendly staff. everybody is always so nice. it’s like 70 bucks total for both of my cats yearly shots. everything is priced so reasonably, appointments are easy to make using their app, text, or email. you usually have to wait a teeny bit when you get there but they are super quick and efficient other than that. they also have a day or two of walkins which is great if you need something last minute or semi emergency. if you get there early enough you don’t have to wait too long for them either. all around love this place!
August 02 · MJ RittgersMy cat had had discharge out of his left eye for over a year it was puss sometimes and sometimes it had a pinkish discharge. It would come and go. I had taken him to two different vets and they couldn't find out what was wrong. The last vet just looked at his eye and said I needed to take him to an ophthalmologist because he had glaucoma. She did give me an antibiotic just in case it was an infection because when you looked at his eye the color part of his eye looked red like it was bleeding behind it and right around the rim of it and it was getting worse, it was getting cloudy and he was acting like he couldn't see. I made an appointment and brought him here. I wanted to hug this lady vet. First she got down on her knees at his level and looked in his eye with a flashlight and looked at the other eye and then looked back again really looked long and hard and then she went and got a machine to measure the pressure in his eye. She diagnosed him with uveitis. He's had this for over a year now. What kind of a vet cannot diagnose uveitis? I was so impressed we were treated with so much respect from the time we walked in until we left. Max was treated with so much respect. This is such a busy place and I understand why because they do such a really good job. Years ago I took my other cat there who had kidney disease and they diagnosed his kidney disease and help me treat him. I wish they had a bigger facility with more vets in there because this is definitely what this community needs and they have a really good system set up too. They have walk-ins where you sign up and wait in your car and they call you and you can make an appointment. Either way you are treated with respect and consideration for the stress of your pet. I love this place.
August 20 · Rhonda BrommelThe staff is amazing and has lots of patience. I have 2 dogs that are very nervous when they go to the vet. I love Afford-a-care. Wouldn't go anywhere else.
