Let's delve deeper into what makes this practice a highly recommended and integral part of Vermont's equine community.
Arlington Equine is conveniently located at 969 Trumbull Hill Rd, Shaftsbury, VT 05262, USA. This address places the practice in a tranquil, rural setting characteristic of Southern Vermont, while remaining easily accessible for horse owners across the region. Shaftsbury is nestled between the larger towns of Bennington and Arlington, making it a central point for communities in Southern Vermont, as well as those who might trailer their horses from nearby areas in Eastern New York or Western Massachusetts.
Trumbull Hill Road, while a local road, provides direct access to the hospital, ensuring that whether you are coming from a nearby stable or a more distant farm, reaching their facility is straightforward. The rural environment minimizes traffic stress for horses being trailered for appointments, contributing to a calmer experience. For a specialized equine practice, a location that offers both peaceful surroundings and practical accessibility is ideal. Ample space for horse trailers and parking is naturally part of such a facility, ensuring smooth arrivals and departures. This strategic location allows Arlington Equine to serve as a vital hub for specialized horse veterinary care for a wide area of the tri-state region, cementing its role as a key local resource for equine health.
Arlington Equine provides an extensive range of specialized veterinary services exclusively for horses, catering to all ages, breeds, and disciplines. Their mission to deliver caring, professional service with a variety of diagnostic and treatment options is evident in their comprehensive offerings:
Routine and Preventative Care: This foundational care includes thorough physical exams, tailored vaccination programs, deworming protocols, and essential Coggins testing for Equine Infectious Anemia. They emphasize preventative medicine to keep horses healthy long-term.
Dental Care: Routine dental care is highlighted as one of the best investments in a horse's health. They are equipped with the latest hand and power tools for dental maintenance and corrective procedures, including floating (filing sharp points), and can utilize digital radiographs for detailed dental evaluations. Dr. Corey Orava, certified as an advanced dentist with the AAEP, is available for referrals.
Lameness Evaluation: A key area of interest and expertise. They possess diagnostic tools, including digital radiography and ultrasonography, and have access to facilities with a round pen and indoor arena for in-depth observation. Their doctors understand various equine disciplines, allowing them to assess horses working at their training level.
Pre-Purchase Exams: Comprehensive pre-purchase examinations are tailored to meet individual needs, whether for a backyard horse or a top-level competition horse. They gather pertinent medical information from sellers, farriers, and previous veterinarians.
Diagnostic Imaging: Advanced imaging capabilities include digital radiography systems for efficient and cost-effective X-rays (allowing immediate viewing during exams) and ultrasonography for diagnosing soft tissue injuries (tendons, ligaments) and for reproductive work (identifying pregnancy as early as 13 days).
Chiropractic Care (Vertebral Spinal Manipulative Therapy - VSMT): This manual therapy focuses on restoring movement and balance to the spine, alleviating biomechanical dysfunction for optimal body function. Used in conjunction with veterinary approaches for maximum health benefits.
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT): Aids healing for a variety of musculoskeletal problems by targeting high-energy pressure waves to specific areas of tendon, ligament, or bony injury.
Mesotherapy: A minimally-invasive therapeutic option for immediate, profound soft tissue pain relief, particularly useful for soreness in the neck, back, and/or sacroiliac regions.
Regenerative Medicine: Alongside conventional therapies, they offer new regenerative therapies for performance-limiting injuries.
Surgical Procedures: Equipped to perform standard surgical procedures requiring sedation, general anesthesia, and/or local anesthesia, including wound repair, castrations, and tumor removal.
Emergency Services: They pledge to be there for horse emergencies 24/7, 365 days a year, providing peace of mind to clients. This commitment to after-hours care is a critical service for horse owners.

Arlington Equine is the best equine veterinary practice in the area (we have used almost all of them over the years) and I would recommend them to anyone. Dr. Dowd, Dr. Guy, and Beth are all wonderful, kind people who have been with us through a lot of difficult circumstances. They have always provided our horses with top notch care, even when faced with complicated and involved issues. Dr. Dowd couldn’t have been more compassionate when he was with us for the last moments of two of our equine family members’s lives. Everyone at the practice has always been there for us, during and after office hours. They truly care about their patients.

Nov 18, 2022 · Pam BrandenbergDr. Guy and Beth are wonderful, caring individuals who have provided excellent chiropractic services to my Irish Wolfhounds over the past 4 years. Dr. Guy has made accommodations for my older hounds when they can no longer climb the stairs to her office. Sometimes the weather has not been ideal, especially in winter, but my guys always come away from the appointment feeling better and much more limber. Thank - you both!
Aug 07, 2017 · Shane WolfhoundMy horses and I have always received the most excellent care from Dr. Dowd and Dr. Guy. More than excellent care....they make it a practice to know the horse and respect and admire the bond of love the owner has with their horse. They always give consistently excellent care and go beyond the expected to give that care. I trust them with what I love most in the world.....my equine partners.
