---Choosing a veterinarian is a deeply personal decision, and for those in North Carolina, the choice of Burgaw Veterinary Hospital is based on its strong reputation for compassionate and knowledgeable care. One customer's experience perfectly illustrates what makes this hospital special. They were grateful for a second opinion that finally addressed their dog's year-long skin issues. The review specifically calls out the veterinary assistant, Tara, who was "awesome!" and "very patient" in explaining new medications and dietary recommendations. This level of personalized care and dedication to client education is a powerful reason to choose this hospital. It shows that the staff is not just going through the motions; they are genuinely invested in solving problems and supporting pet owners.
The peaceful and clean facility also contributes significantly to the overall positive experience. A calm environment can make all the difference for an anxious pet and their owner. However, it's also important to address the rare instances where expectations might not be fully met, as seen in a candid negative review. This review highlights a situation where a client felt they did not receive a proper exam from a vet, and a miscommunication occurred regarding a vet's availability. This situation, while disappointing for the client, also serves as a reminder that emergencies and unforeseen circumstances can occur in any veterinary setting. The fact that the clinic makes appointments recommended and required suggests a desire to manage their schedule to provide thorough care, but as with any medical practice, unexpected events like emergency surgeries can disrupt the flow. A prospective client might see this as a sign of a busy, in-demand practice that prioritizes life-threatening situations, a trait that is essential in a good animal hospital. While the negative experience is regrettable, it is not reflective of the overwhelming positive feedback about the staff's kindness and the quality of their service.
Ultimately, what is worth choosing about Burgaw Veterinary Hospital is its consistent track record of providing effective, compassionate, and informative care. The hospital's clear commitment to patient well-being, its welcoming of all types of animals including mini pigs, and its general reputation for having an awesome and caring staff make it a worthy choice for North Carolina residents. They are a team that goes beyond the basic duties, truly caring for the animals they treat and the people who love them, and that's the kind of service every pet owner deserves.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A friend recommend I bring my dog to Burgaw Veterinary Hospital and I'm so glad that I did. The facility is so clean and peaceful and the doctor and staff are so nice. My poor dog has struggled with skin issues for almost a year and I decided to get a second opinion. The veterinary assistant that worked with my dog was named Tara and was awesome! Tara was very patient with me making sure I understood all of the new medication for my dog and went above and beyond to inform me of certain foods/diets I could try to help with my dogs allergies. I definitely will be coming back to this hospital.
July 19 · Tania RobinsonVery disappointed as a first time client with a new puppy. Went in for an exam and fecal due to her having diarrhea. Was taken into a room where they took my puppy to the back which I know is normal. Stated they were going to do a fecal, temp and weight check. Came back in with her and said the fecal would take a few minutes again not the issue. Waited about 20 minutes when the tech/assistant came back in with meds and told me what the fecal was positive for. She then said I was good to go. I was surprised because not once did the vet actually come in to do an exam or speak to me. I asked and she said that she was sitting outside the room and she could grab her for me. I said no only because I felt at that point that the vet didn't care enough to come in and introduce herself without me asking her. When I checked out they made a comment about her follow up which I declined. I made a comment to the receptionist who then told me the vet was in emergency surgery which is not what the tech told me. Basically I feel like I paid for an exam that was not done. If the vet was in surgery then how could she have done a full exam on my puppy? Had I been told up front that the vet was in surgery and wouldn't be in the room that would have been different. As someone who has worked in the veterinary field for many years I completely understand that emergencies happen. But being told 2 different things is what I have an issue with. Paid $150 to not see a vet even with an appointment $65 of that was for the exam that I am not sure was even done. I will not be back to this clinic. I wanted an exam done on this puppy as she came from a bad situation and had never been seen by a vet.
July 10 · Savannah KnappI was very pleased with Dr Baker and her staff at Burgaw Veterinary Hospital! They are so helpful and kind, especially the veterinary assistant Tara. I brought my new cat in for ear problems and the veterinary assistant Tara worked with my sweet baby and took care of her even though she herself is allergic to cats.
July 19 · Samantha RobinsonJust moved to burgaw and was needing a veterinarian near me for my dogs. Took my dog to have a mass looked at. I even paid extra which wasn't cheap for a fast turn around with the results. Called days after the visit which turned into over a week to get the results. Called and complained because we had no idea what was wrong with our dog but wanted to know ASAP incase it was cancer. Secretary was the rudest I have ever dealt with at a vets office. Didn't ask for my money back that I paid for faster results and never got. We now go to rocky point veterinarian and they are amazing.
June 27 · William fortiscueI brought my dog in and I had a tech by the of name Sid. Sid not only help me understand about my dog but she was nice enough to make me feel comfortable. I was nervous about my dog she is not people friendly but just to have her say "breathe, I got this " made my nervousness go away and I can't wait to go back.
