Byram Animal Hospital, featuring the expertise of Dr. Maria Cruz and her team, provides a comprehensive range of veterinary services designed to meet the diverse health needs of pets at every stage of their lives. Their thorough and attentive approach covers various aspects of animal care.
**Wellness and Preventive Care:** This forms the bedrock of long-term pet health. Services include routine physical examinations (e.g., annual check-ups, where a pet might be found "due for some shots"), customized vaccination protocols tailored to your pet's lifestyle, deworming (as highlighted by a cat found "full of worms!"), and comprehensive parasite prevention programs (fleas, ticks, heartworm).
**Diagnostic Services:** The hospital is equipped to accurately assess your pet's health. This includes laboratory testing (e.g., stool samples for parasites, Phenobarbital levels for seizure management in elderly dogs) to identify underlying conditions and monitor ongoing treatments.
**Senior Pet Care:** With a noted focus on "golden years" pets (like 12 and 14-year-old dogs), they provide specialized care plans for geriatric animals, including medication management (e.g., seizure medication maintenance), thorough examinations, and support for age-related conditions.
**Microchipping:** A crucial service for permanent identification, greatly increasing the chances of reuniting lost pets with their families. This is a routine service they perform, often identifying other overdue care needs in the process.
**Medication Management and Prescription Services:** They provide and manage necessary medications, as demonstrated by the prescription for worms and the ongoing maintenance of seizure medication for elderly dogs.
**General Consultations and Examinations:** Beyond specific treatments, they provide thorough, albeit sometimes brief, general examinations to assess overall pet health and identify any emerging concerns.
**Client Education and Communication:** The staff takes the time to explain findings and recommendations, as shown by the immediate call regarding a cat's worm infestation, empowering pet owners to understand and participate in their pet's care.
Byram Animal Hospital, under the leadership of Dr. Maria Cruz and her team, is distinguished by several key features and highlights that consistently earn them high praise and foster deep loyalty among pet owners in New Jersey.
**Exceptional Compassion and Respect for Pets:** A paramount highlight is how Dr. Cruz and her staff "focus on your pet, treat it with respect, and are very thorough." Pets are consistently treated with "love, care, and compassion," creating a positive experience even for routine visits.
**"Bedside Manner" for Owners:** While seemingly "silly" for animals, Dr. Cruz's excellent "bedside manner" for pet parents is a significant asset. This means clear communication, empathetic understanding, and making pet owners feel comfortable and informed, which is "a necessity, if you think about it."
**Thoroughness and Proactive Care:** The clinic's thoroughness is evident in their proactive approach. A simple microchipping visit led to the identification of overdue shots and a severe worm infestation, demonstrating their commitment to comprehensive health checks and "going the extra mile."
**Expertise in Senior Pet Management:** They excel in managing complex, long-term conditions, as seen in their successful maintenance of an elderly dog's seizure medication for an extended period. This specialized care for "golden years" pets provides immense peace of mind to owners.
**Friendly and Clean Environment:** The "Office staff is friendly, office is clean," contributing to an inviting and comfortable atmosphere for both pets and their owners, which enhances the overall positive experience.
**Value for Investment in Care:** While prices are acknowledged as "significant," clients consistently feel it's "worth the money" for the exceptional level of care and peace of mind provided. The understanding that "this is not beyond the going rate for work performed" reinforces their value.

Cruz Maria M DVM Reviews
Dr. Maria Cruz, the primary vet is listed here, for what reason I'm not sure. She is not the sole provider of animal care here, she is just the vet (there may be others, but I have not seen them). The name of this business is the Byram Animal Hospital. I have been impressed with Dr. Cruz's bedside manner, which is rather silly when you're dealing with animals, but a necessity, if you think about it. She and her staff focus on your pet, treat it with respect, and are very thorough. They have maintained my elderly dog's seizure medication for some time. I have 2 dogs and a cat. I'm lucky that I took my cat in to get microchipped, because they told me that he was due for some shots and a check up. I was told to bring a stool sample with me. The very next day, I got a call from one of the receptionists - "He's full of worms!" she exclaimed. Luckily, they prescribed medication, and he goes in later this month to see if he has been treated properly/enough. I really feel like they go the extra mile. One could seem cynical and say that they are trying to up-sell, but I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that. Their prices are also...significant. My cat's medication cost just under $50 - for 4 pills. Then, on top of the microchipping, review of my dog's Phenobarbital levels (for seizures, and a general, though brief, examination of my pup, the total came to nearly the $300 mark - not including the medication. Personally, I felt that the total was a bit high, but I don't have much experience with other veterinarians - nor do I feel that I will, at least for a long time. It's worth the money to me to see that my animals are taken care of, particularly as they push past their golden years - my dogs are 12 and 14. I would recommend Dr. Cruz and her team to anyone, but they need to know in advance that services rendered will likely not be cheap. This does not vilify the BAH for me, because I know that my pets will be well taken care of -and, though I said before that I had little experience with vets) my mother does, and she tells me that this is not beyond the going rate for work performed, Office staff is friendly, office is clean, and pets are treated with love, care, and compassion. What more could one expect of an animal hospital/veterinarian? Two thumbs up!
