I took my 2 cats here 3 weeks ago, one was just for an annual (which was $300 btw) and my other for a bump on her neck and issues with her bladder. The annual for my 1 cat was fine and normal thankfully, other than the inflated price. But my other one they were way more concerned about her bladder, which is very important and ive been treating for almost 3 weeks with their recommendations, which has not been helping. I was very concerned about the bump on her neck, i really thought it may be cancerous. They were not at all concerned about it and barely discussed it other than being quoted $1,200 for surgery, and i got another $600 quote for a dental cleaning, which I didn't ask for. I was still very concerned about the bump so I went back to her normal vet and it was literally A HUGE BLACK HEAD! They popped it right out and she was fine, and they gave me a different medication for her bladder to actually treat the cause, which is ANXIETY, which a month supply was only $12! Moral of the story don't cheat on your vet, Poplar Animal Hospital has been my go to for 4 year now, and they treated my old man's calicivirus successfully and they have single handedly extended his life expectancy. I will not be back. I gave 2 stars because they were very nice and friendly, and treated my cats with kindness. - Adrianna Wilson

  • Genuine Care and Compassion: A significant highlight repeatedly mentioned by positive reviewers is the evident care the staff and veterinarians, particularly Dr. Rice, show towards pets. One customer emphatically states, "They really care here, you can tell. I’ve been to vets that do not care in the past, and typically it’s evident right off of the bat." Another highlights Dr. Rice as "the most genuine person that truly cares about the well-being of your pet." This genuine empathy is crucial for pet owners, especially when their animals are facing difficult health challenges.
  • Welcoming and Warm Environment: Clients consistently describe everyone at the hospital as "very warm and welcoming." This friendly atmosphere can significantly reduce anxiety for both pets and their owners during visits.
  • Support for Complex Cases: The hospital demonstrates capability and dedication in handling challenging medical situations, such as a cat with a limb deformity requiring amputation. The thoroughness of care, including initial exams, respectful communication, and post-surgery follow-up (e.g., calls the morning after surgery), showcases their commitment to comprehensive treatment even for severe conditions.
  • Informative and Respectful Communication: The staff is praised for being "so informative and respectful," especially when discussing sensitive topics like amputation. This clear and compassionate communication helps pet owners understand their options and feel supported in making critical decisions.
  • Dedicated Veterinarians: Dr. Rice is specifically highlighted as being "the most genuine person that truly cares about the well-being of your pet." This individual recognition underscores the impact that specific veterinarians have on building trust and loyalty with clients.
  • Commitment to Client Resources: The hospital is described as "an amazing resource for any questions you may have," indicating a willingness to provide ongoing support and information beyond the immediate appointment.
  • Mixed Feedback on Pricing and Diagnostic Thoroughness: While many appreciate the care, one review noted "inflated price" for an annual exam and a perceived lack of concern for a specific issue (a bump on the neck, which turned out to be a blackhead, contrasted with their regular vet's quick diagnosis). This suggests that while compassion is evident, pricing and diagnostic approaches for certain conditions might warrant specific discussion by pet owners beforehand.
