Here’s a detailed look at their primary offerings:
Comprehensive Wellness Care: This foundational service includes routine physical examinations, tailored vaccination protocols based on a pet's lifestyle and risk factors, and proactive parasite prevention strategies (fleas, ticks, heartworm, intestinal parasites). Regular wellness exams are emphasized for early detection of potential health issues, contributing to longer and healthier lives for pets.
Advanced Diagnostic Procedures: To accurately pinpoint health concerns, Monroe Animal Hospital provides a broad spectrum of diagnostic services. This includes in-house testing for rapid results (such as blood work, urinalysis, and cytology) and the use of external laboratories for specialized diagnostics. They also have in-house digital X-ray capabilities for high-quality radiographic imaging, crucial for diagnosing a range of conditions from skeletal issues to internal abnormalities. They work with local radiologists for interpretation when needed.
Surgical Services: Their in-hospital surgery suite is equipped for a wide variety of surgical procedures. This encompasses routine operations like spaying and neutering, as well as complex soft tissue surgeries (e.g., mass removals, wound repairs, foreign body removal, and internal organ surgeries). They also offer minimally invasive surgical services, such as laparoscopic spays, which typically lead to faster recovery times.
Dental Care: Recognizing the critical link between oral health and overall well-being, they provide comprehensive dental services. These include regular dental cleanings to prevent periodontal disease, tooth decay, and gum infections, as well as more involved procedures like extractions when necessary. They also offer advice on at-home dental care to maintain pet's oral hygiene.
Laser Therapy: Monroe Animal Hospital offers laser therapy (often referred to as cold laser therapy), a non-invasive treatment used for pain management and inflammation. This therapy is commonly applied to conditions like arthritis, soft tissue injuries, and to aid post-surgical recovery, by promoting faster healing and reducing discomfort.
Onsite Pharmacy and Online Pharmacy: For the convenience of clients, a fully stocked onsite pharmacy ensures immediate access to necessary medications and preventatives. Additionally, they have partnered with Vetsource to offer an online pharmacy for easy ordering and home delivery of prescriptions, food, and other pet products, often at competitive prices.
Specialist Care Access: While providing primary care, Monroe Animal Hospital also facilitates access to veterinary specialists. They work closely with internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, ultrasound, and surgical specialists who can come to their hospital to help diagnose and treat pets requiring highly specialized care.
Payment Options: Understanding that veterinary care can be a significant investment, they work with treatment financing solutions such as CareCredit and Scratchpay to help clients manage costs and space out payments, ensuring pets receive necessary care without undue financial burden on owners.

Monroe Animal Hospital Reviews
Dear Steve, in the past 11 years you have been taking care of our Maya. You saved her life when she had an accident and you always made sure we are giving her the best possible care. You always had patience for our questions and your team always made sure Maya feels welcomed even when she needed to get her shot. This week you graciously helped her and the entire family to finish her life journey and now she rest in peace. We were so fortunate to have with us this loving playful soul. Steve you are the best vet ever. 🩷🩷🩷
Jun 21, 2025 · Ori Ben ZviDr. Hornstein is an amazing human being and extraordinarily knowledgeable veterinarian. We didn't go as clients, but as a tour he did for Scouts. He was patient with the kids, answered lots of questions, humorous and thorough! All my daughter does is play animal doctor and what an awesome experience this has been not just for her, but all the kids who went. They are still talking about it! Thank you!! 💕
Mar 30, 2025 · Jennifer Katherine De LoughyWow, so far, great! My little nine-year-old WestiPoo has been in duress for almost two years with urgency to urinate, so bad that she has been in diapers for almost that long. Her former vet, who I will refer to only as "Dark Shadows" because they were weird and odd, gave her antibiotic after antibiotic and felt that there was no need for an abdominal x-ray that I kept suggesting. Turns out she has a HUGE stone in her bladder. Took her to Dr. Hornstein after an emergency hospital visit, and he was more responsive and thorough than any of the former. He added a probiotic to her prescription food plan and Clavamox that the emergency hospital gave her in order to calm any UTI and begin dissolving the stone to give her some relief. My dog is not in any pain, but he suggested adding an anti-inflammatory to help with the constant squatting and urge to urinate. It's working! Then, he noticed an ear infection. My former vet, Dark Shadows, said that it was recurrent and she just had to live with it and that it would never go away. Dr. Hornstein took a swab, analyzed it, and compounded an effective ear wash. After just one day, this two-year long recurring infection is clearing beautifully.I read a few crazy negative reviews, and I must disagree. I've had dogs for 50 years, I'm not a newbie at this. The care from this very gifted doctor and his smart, attuned, energetic, and happy staff made this place a shining star. Is it luxurious? No. But I certainly don't need it to be. Of utmost importance, our exam time was not rushed and it felt totally complete and full of pertinent and necessary information, addressing all problems, and I left with meds and treats, and printouts of further information regarding struvite bladder stones. A followup appointment was also scheduled for four weeks to recheck everything and figure out next steps for the bladder stone.I WOULD NOT HESITATE to recommend this veterinary hospital to others, and already have. Some of the negative reviews I have come across online seem totally out of place, and it makes me wonder if people just click haphazardly on one of the umpteen other clinics with the same name.Thank you, Dr. Steven Hornstein, and staff.
May 16, 2025 · Susanna M.Dr. Hornstein is absolutely the most caring & knowledgeable Veterinarian that I have ever used. I didn’t think my fur baby had a chance. Now my Charlie is back to his old crazy lovable life.Thank you Dr. HornsteinThe Nunziato family
Jun 19, 2025 · Helene NunziatoThis review is overdue, thank you so much Dr Hornstein and the wonderful vet techs and receptionist for a great experience! I took my little 8 yr old poodle mix to get neutered here and the healing process was so quick for my little one! His incision looks great and is healing very nicely. Dr Hornstein and the front desk were reassuring at answering follow up questions as well. I was very tired and worried about getting my dog neutered so after a few days of research I found his office and I’m so happy I took my dog here. A million thank yous for making this process easier and taking excellent care of my fur baby 💕
