Porter Pet Hospital strives to offer essential veterinary care, focusing on both preventative measures and necessary treatments for common pet ailments. As a local clinic, they understand the importance of accessible and efficient care for pets within the community. This article will provide an overview of their services, location, and what you might expect when considering them for your pet's healthcare needs.
Porter Pet Hospital is conveniently located at 27529 Lorain Rd, North Olmsted, OH 44070, USA. This address places the hospital on a major road in North Olmsted, making it easily accessible for residents of North Olmsted and the surrounding western suburbs of Cleveland. Lorain Road is a significant thoroughfare, ensuring straightforward navigation for pet owners coming from various directions. The location is designed to be a local, convenient option, minimizing travel time for routine visits or when urgent care is needed. For pet owners in the area, the hospital's accessible placement helps ensure that veterinary care is within reach.
Porter Pet Hospital provides a range of veterinary services for small animals, including dogs and cats. While specific details on every single service are not extensively detailed, common offerings for a primary care veterinary clinic like Porter Pet Hospital typically include:
- Wellness and Preventative Care: This generally encompasses routine physical examinations, vaccinations (such as for rabies, parvovirus, etc.), parasite prevention, and general health assessments to maintain a pet's well-being.
- Spay/Neuter Services: Often referred to as "fixing," these common surgical procedures are performed to prevent unwanted breeding and offer various health benefits for pets. One customer review specifically mentions having their dog neutered here, highlighting this as a core service.
- General Surgery: Beyond spay/neuter, the hospital is equipped to perform various surgical procedures. This may include soft tissue surgeries like mass removals, wound repairs, and other common operations.
- Dental Care: They perform dental work, which can include professional cleanings and potentially surgical interventions for more complex dental issues, aiming to improve and maintain oral health.
- Diagnostic Services: To aid in diagnosing various conditions, a modern veterinary hospital typically offers diagnostic tools such as X-rays (as noted in a review regarding an ACL exam) and potentially in-house laboratory testing for blood work and other analyses.
- Orthopedic Assessments: As indicated by a review about an ACL exam and X-rays for a Rottweiler, the hospital can assess orthopedic issues, including partial tears of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Their website also mentions offering tightrope repair and lateral fixations for ACL stabilization, and they may refer more complex orthopedic cases like TPLO to specialists.
- Pain Management: Crucial for pets undergoing surgical procedures or suffering from chronic conditions, pain management protocols are typically integrated into their care.
Porter Pet Hospital offers several features that may appeal to pet owners in the North Olmsted area:
- Reasonably Priced Services: One reviewer noted that Dr. B (likely a veterinarian at the hospital) was "very reasonably priced" for an ACL exam and X-rays. This suggests that the hospital aims to provide cost-effective veterinary care, which is a significant consideration for many pet owners.
- General Surgical Capabilities: The successful neutering procedure mentioned in a review, with the dog recovering well, indicates their competency in common surgical interventions.
- Accessibility for Scheduling: The ease of scheduling mentioned by a client for a neutering procedure suggests a streamlined and efficient appointment booking process, which is beneficial for busy pet owners.
- Openness to Second Opinions: The fact that a client sought a "3rd opinion" for an ACL exam at Porter Pet Hospital, and it was recommended to them, indicates that the clinic is a consideration for those seeking alternative assessments or more affordable options for specific conditions. Their website also indicates that for TPLO clients, they are often a second or third opinion due to more reasonable costs for knee surgery.
- Orthopedic Assessment Capability: The hospital can perform ACL exams and X-rays to diagnose orthopedic issues like partial tears, as seen with the Rottweiler case. They also offer some orthopedic procedures like tightrope repair and lateral fixations, though complex TPLO cases may be referred to specialists.
It's important to note that while the hospital aims to provide good care at a reasonable price, as highlighted by some positive aspects, experiences can vary. One review, while acknowledging reasonable pricing, also brought up concerns about handling a stressed or aggressive dog during a surgical drop-off, which led to the cancellation of a crucial TPLO surgery. This particular experience suggests potential limitations in managing highly anxious or reactive patients without sedation or alternative calming measures. Pet owners with animals that exhibit high anxiety or aggression at the vet should discuss management strategies beforehand to ensure a successful visit.

Porter Pet Hospital Reviews
I took my 2 year old Rottweiler to Dr. B for a Acl exam and X-rays. Dr. B emailed me back with results stating she most likely has a partial tear but she would still need tplo surgery. She was my 3rd opinion so we scheduled it for the 15th . Dropped her off at 7:30 am got a call back at 11:30 to come pick her up because she was lunging and growling. I asked them if we could give her something to calm her put on a muzzle or cone they said no! They told me to look for someone else or start a go fund me. Now Dr. B was recommended to me and very reasonably priced. Well all I have to say to that is you get what you pay for!!! They are supposed to be trained professionals and know how to deal with these situations! You are a veterinarian for God sake!! I have called several vets today and everyone has said that was not the way to handle this!! I will find a qualified vet for remmi!!!
Apr 16, 2025 · KimI had my dog neutered here. It was very easy to schedule. It is only the day after his surgery but he is doing great. He is eating, drinking, taking his medicine, and wearing his cone. He wants to play and jump more than i expected. I’m happy with the result.
Jun 26, 2025 · rhiewrhiew1Drove 3 hours to bring a stray in for surgery due to a fractured leg for a bb wound. They were amazing in getting her in on time for surgery to save her leg. Its been over a year since her surgery and she's very healthy and happy now. I refer anyone I can to them. Other vets in comparison would have charged 3x as much for the same surgery.
Jun 26, 2025 · Debra BelcherWalters leg literally broke off in front of my eyes and this place fixed him a week later. They were very detailed on what they were going to do and what they did and what was expected of me. The staff gave me a number to a Doctor to text with any questions and I did several times as a over concerned é. My texts were answered and my concerns were addressed. Everyone seemed very qualified and professional and his treatment was top notch!
