Schooner Cats Introduce
For California residents seeking to welcome a purebred cat into their family, **Schooner Cats** is a cattery operating in Wildomar, specializing in the breeding of American Shorthair kittens. This enterprise is dedicated to offering kittens for sale, often showcasing beautiful coats such as the admired silver tabby. The primary function of Schooner Cats is to breed and sell cats, positioning itself within the network of small, independent breeders that serve the California pet market. The cattery has historically been a point of contact for buyers at local cat shows, such as the CFA show in Del Mar, establishing its presence in the community of cat enthusiasts.
The goal of a specialized cattery is typically to maintain the standards and desirable traits of a specific breed, providing pets that are healthy, well-socialized, and true to their breed type. Schooner Cats aims to connect kittens with new families, a process that should ideally involve transparent communication regarding the kitten's pedigree, health status, and care requirements. For those interested in a specific aesthetic, such as a **beautiful, smart, friendly three year old Schooner cat, silver tabby**, this cattery offers pets directly from a breeding program.
However, potential buyers in California should note that the experience with breeders can be highly variable. One client review detailed a significant issue involving the purchase of an American Shorthair kitten that exhibited **long-haired** traits, leading the buyer to question its purebred status after consulting with other breeders. This same client experienced a serious **post-spay infection** requiring immediate veterinary intervention, highlighting the critical importance of a thorough health check and receiving complete paperwork and guarantees when acquiring a purebred kitten. When dealing with specialized animal sales, buyers are advised to approach the transaction with diligence and secure all agreed-upon details, especially health and financial agreements, **in writing**.
The core service of Schooner Cats remains the provision of kittens to the California market, specializing in the American Shorthair breed, with notable color variations like the silver tabby.
Schooner Cats is a local California business situated in the Inland Empire region, within the city of Wildomar.
The contact and physical address provided is:
33633 Valley Terrace, Wildomar, CA 92595, USA
As a private cattery, rather than a large commercial facility, the location serves as the base for their breeding operations. The business does not operate a public-facing retail store with walk-in hours, and contact is typically made via phone or at scheduled events like cat shows or appointments for kitten pickup.
Given the nature of the business—the buying and selling of kittens—it is essential for California buyers to be aware of the geographical proximity for travel. The location in Wildomar serves the wider Southern California area but may require significant travel for those living in distant parts of the state, as exemplified by a client who faced a "3-4 hour drive" to reach the breeder’s preferred veterinarian.
Because this is a private operation, there is no public information regarding standard commercial accessibility features like wheelchair ramps or accessible parking. All interactions and viewings would likely be strictly by arrangement. Therefore, prospective clients should anticipate meeting at the specific address only after scheduling a meeting with the breeder.
The primary service offered by Schooner Cats is the breeding and sale of purebred kittens, specifically the American Shorthair breed.
The services associated with the cattery include:
- **Breeding of American Shorthair Cats:** The central function is to maintain a breeding line of American Shorthairs, focusing on breed standards and desirable traits, such as those found in the silver tabby coloring.
- **Sale of Kittens:** Offering young cats, such as spayed kittens, for purchase to new owners in California and beyond.
- **Showcase at Cat Events:** Participating in cat fancy association events, such as CFA cat shows, to showcase their lines and connect with prospective buyers.
- **Initial Veterinary Care and Procedures:** Performing standard preparatory procedures before sale, such as spaying, as noted in a customer's experience.
- **Post-Sale Consultation (Attempted):** Providing initial communication and a suggested course of action (e.g., advising a visit to their preferred vet) when health concerns arise immediately after a purchase.
It is important to note that, as a Cattery, the business is focused on the sale of the animal, and the ongoing veterinary care after purchase becomes the responsibility of the new owner. Any health concerns presented shortly after the sale necessitate immediate action by the buyer, utilizing their own trusted veterinarian, as travel to the breeder's distant vet may be impractical or medically unsafe for the kitten.
The features and highlights of Schooner Cats revolve around its specialization in a specific and popular cat breed.
Key highlights include:
- **Breed Specialization:** Exclusive focus on the **American Shorthair** breed, appealing to clients seeking specific characteristics, temperaments, and aesthetics associated with this breed, such as the **silver tabby**.
- **Direct Breeder Access:** Provides a way for California cat enthusiasts to acquire a cat directly from the person responsible for its breeding and initial care.
- **Established Presence in Cat Circles:** Participation in recognized events like CFA cat shows provides a platform for the cattery to be recognized within the organized cat community.
- **Silver Tabby Availability:** The cattery is known for producing and offering specific color variations, such as the "beautiful, smart, friendly three year old Schooner cat, silver tabby."
However, potential buyers should be mindful of reported challenges, including discrepancies in breed type (**long-haired** vs. shorthaired) and post-sale health issues (**infected spay stitches**) that required intervention by the buyer's own veterinarian. The importance of securing documentation regarding breed purity, health guarantees, and financial agreements (such as a refund agreement that was later not fulfilled) should be considered as part of the due diligence when interacting with the cattery.
Prospective clients in California interested in purchasing an American Shorthair kitten from Schooner Cats should use the following contact details for initial inquiries.
Address: 33633 Valley Terrace, Wildomar, CA 92595, USA
Primary Phone: (951) 674-4840
Mobile Phone: +1 951-674-4840
Note: As a private cattery, contact should be made via phone to arrange any necessary appointments or discuss availability, and potential buyers are strongly advised to secure all health and financial agreements in writing before any payment is made.
For California residents specifically seeking an **American Shorthair** or a specific color like a **silver tabby**, Schooner Cats offers a direct avenue to acquire a kitten. The key element worth choosing is the ability to acquire a cat that may possess the desired traits and bloodlines associated with the breed. The convenience of finding a local breeder who operates within the state’s cat community can be appealing compared to sourcing from outside California.
However, what is critically worth choosing—and simultaneously requires the most attention—is the need for buyer vigilance. Potential owners must prioritize securing the kitten's immediate health and verifying all breed and health claims. It is highly recommended to immediately take any newly acquired kitten to your personal, trusted California veterinarian for a full health check, regardless of the breeder's assurances. Furthermore, all verbal agreements, especially those concerning refunds or health guarantees following post-sale issues, must be formalized in a written, signed contract before money changes hands. Choosing Schooner Cats is choosing to enter the direct-breeder market for American Shorthairs, which necessitates careful research, inspection, and the insistence on written, binding agreements to protect both the financial investment and, most importantly, the well-being of the kitten.

Schooner Cats Reviews
- Highly recommend looking else where for your American Shorthaired kitten!!Met Cheryl at the CFA cat show in Del Mar and purchased a female kitten from her who had recently been spayed. Pointed out to her before buying that the area looked infected but was told it was normal, and having never had a young kitten before i assumed the breeder would know.Brought home my American Short haired kitten and started doing research on the breed. First red flag was that my kitten is LONG HAIRED which i realized is very bad after reaching out to many american shorthaired breeders. From all the other breeders i am told this means she isn't purebred but mixed with something to get her long coat. Not a HUGE deal because we still love our kitten but would have been nice to know before spending over $900 on a kitten! The real issue came in a few days after we brought her home. Her spay stitches started to leak puss!!! We rushed her to the vet and contacted the breeder why the kitten was in the back having her stitches removed, the area cleaned up, and restitched together. My kitten had to wear a cone and be on medication for the infection for 10 days there after. When i was finally leaving the vet i heard back from Cheryl asking if i could bring the kitten to her vet which is a 3-4 hour drive away from me. I am quite lucky i didn't wait to bring my kitten in to a vet because when she got there she had a crazy high fever and i was told if i had waiting much longer the infection could have spread and she would need even more surgery,The next day i asked the breeder, Cheryl, if she could give me a refund for the the amount of the vet bill(which was less than what we paid for the kitten) because I had pointed out the stitches being infected before buying the kitten and her saying it looked fine.THE BREEDER AGREED TO THE REFUND which she has still yet to send me(been 2 months now) and i have not heard from the breeder again!!!!!Moral of the story, look else where for an American Short haired kitten and get everything in writing before you send any form of payment.
