Veterinary Emergency Group Introduce
For pet owners throughout Illinois, and particularly those living in the bustling metropolis of Chicago, the sudden onset of an illness or an unexpected injury to a beloved pet can be a terrifying experience. In these critical moments, having immediate access to expert, compassionate, and transparent emergency veterinary care is not just a comfort—it's an absolute necessity. Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) Lincoln Park stands as a vital lifeline in the Chicago area, offering 24/7 emergency care with a unique approach that prioritizes both the pet's well-being and the owner's peace of mind.
VEG operates with a distinct philosophy that sets them apart in the emergency veterinary landscape. They understand that facing a pet emergency is incredibly stressful, and their core mission is to make that experience as smooth and reassuring as possible. Unlike traditional emergency rooms where owners might be separated from their pets for extended periods, VEG embraces an "open-door" policy, allowing pet parents to stay by their animal's side throughout the examination and treatment process. This innovative approach fosters comfort for anxious pets and provides unparalleled transparency and involvement for owners. As one grateful client shared, "They let us be present for all of her procedures to put her at ease." This commitment to presence and transparency is fundamental to the VEG experience, ensuring that you are an active part of your pet's care journey, even in urgent situations.
The team at VEG Lincoln Park is lauded for their exceptional kindness, support, and thoroughness, even under the high-pressure circumstances of emergency care. From the moment you call or walk in, the staff is trained to respond swiftly and empathetically. "Everyone that I have interacted with at VEG has been so kind, supportive, and thorough," a customer noted. Veterinarians like Dr. Mettenburg are praised for their patience in answering questions, providing reassurance, and offering clear communication regarding a pet's prognosis and care plan. This level of dedication extends to handling the most difficult situations with profound compassion. One client recounted their heartbreaking experience of saying goodbye to their beloved Millie, emphasizing how the VEG team provided "care and compassion," "time with her privately," and handled all logistical details, making "one of the hardest days of our lives less complex." This unwavering empathy, combined with clinical expertise, is a hallmark of the VEG team.

Veterinary Emergency Group Reviews
I highly recommend VEG! I’ve been to the Lincoln Park location a handful of times for my two cats and have had a great experience every time!Everyone that I have interacted with at VEG has been so kind, supportive, and thorough. I brought my kitten in yesterday for symptoms that presented as a cold and increased quickly in severity. The team at VEG quickly took her back and began a thorough evaluation to figure out what was going on. She gets very anxious at the vet so her team was extra patient and gentle with her! After testing, they decided to keep her overnight to provide supportive care. Dr. Mettenburg was so patient with answering all of my questions and provided reassurance that my cat will be in a quiet and calm space and receiving constant care and monitoring. Being nervous about leaving her, Dr. Mettenburg told me that I could call every hour to check in on her if I wanted and that I am more than welcome to stop by any time of the night to see her. She also shared that I will receive multiple updates on how she is doing. Knowing that she was in great hands, along with the clear communication regarding my cats care, eased my anxiety.I received an update first thing this morning that she did really well overnight. I was able to pick her up early, to which the VEG team promptly began a refund to accommodate the shorter than anticipated hospital stay.I truly appreciate the VEG team and am thankful that I know I can always count on VEG to provide exceptional care to my cats!
Apr 28, 2025 · Alexandra PetratosWe took our sweet girl, Millie to VEG after she quickly and unexpectedly became very ill. Prior to going, we called ahead and were immediately transferred to a doctor who advised we bring her in. Once there, we were immediately taken to a patient room and she was seen very quickly. They let us be present for all of her procedures to put her at ease. Our doctor explained Millie’s prognosis to us probably around 5 or 6 times because we were in such shock and couldn’t wrap our heads around what was happening as her prognosis was very, very poor. They were patient, kind, and answered every question honestly and gently. We ultimately had to make the decision to say goodbye to our girl that night. The care and compassion we received from the staff is something we are both so grateful for. We received water and tissues for us, and blankets for Millie to keep her comfortable. They gave us time with her privately to process and say our goodbyes and ensured that everything was taken care of for us before we had to leave so we didn’t have to do a thing after we let her go.They made one of the hardest days of our lives less complex and provided us with as much comfort, understanding, and information they could possible give. We feel really lucky that we landed there that night.Thank you to our team, we can’t remember your names due to the whirlwind of the moment, but you each treated our Millie with such care and kindness, and you really took care of us as well. We appreciate your help navigating an unimaginable situation.
Apr 11, 2025 · Mallory McQuistonI have recommended VEG, the lincoln park location specifically, to so many people. I’ve been there a few times and everyone remembers me and my pets and that feels so lovely. Everyone talks to me and makes sure I’m ok, comforts me when I’m a mess, and loves my dogs and I know it. I know everyone there cares so much and I’ve seen them have to deal with such difficult cases and still be so positive and supportive towards owners and pets. I appreciate this place so much. I know vet care and especially emergency care is such a difficult field and I love and appreciate every single one of the staff that helps me when I come in.I don’t know everyone’s names but I feel like I should! Everyone asks how I’m doing, even offering to get me snack and water and tissues when I’m a mess. I’ve had hugs and reassurance when I’ve needed them. I’ve had realistic expectations given to me when I ask, questions answered, and explanations given. Realistic espectations are so important to me and I always want to do right for my pets and while it sometimes hard to hear, the staff is excellent at giving me the truth in a respectful, reassuring, and supportive manner. Treatment is fast and I love staying with my animals while they are treated. Everyone here is amazing at their jobs which you can tell they work hard at.Some pics of my very comfortable, very calm babies. The pom gets incredibly excited to see everyone, even in the worst circumstances and I’m just happy he’s comfortable enough with everyone to wag his tail at them regardless of what’s happening that brought us there.
Apr 18, 2025 · Emily Butleri have never experienced a vet like this. this was my first time going to a vet ER and was expecting it to be worse than just normal visits. My dog Pancake ingested a THC chocolate. As soon as I found out and saw his symptoms, I called. I was immediately put on the phone with a doctor who referred me to pet poison control to see if the dose was lethal. We ended up coming in around 5am this morning, we checked in online and were immediately seen. He was assessed and we were given an itemized bill prior to them completing the procedures. We could not afford the total price of treatment (about $650 total, theres a flat rate fee of $205). We expressed this to Dr. Miranda, she asked for our budget and she was able to administer the full treatment for about $200 off. I forgot our main nurse’s name (she’s a redhead), but she was amazing and friendly through a scary experience. She offered us coffee from their personal/staff machine because their main coffee machine was broken, and thanked us for our patience because they were understaffed. I could tell that Pancake’s anxiety lessened significantly after interacting with her, and it put me at ease as well. If he ever has another emergency experience, I will come back here without hesitation. He’s doing better already just a few hours later!
Feb 26, 2025 · SydniMy dog was sick this morning and I was afraid it was something bad and needed to find a spot quickly. I chose randomly for distance but was very surprised by the warmth and kindness at this place. The format was also really different (open concept) so I got to stay with my dog the entire time. Also, pricing was lower than I think I would have paid elsewhere.
