I brought my dog to West Woodward Animal Hospital for an exam and a nail trim, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely upsetting. While the front desk staff and techs were polite and kind and the office is clean, Dr. Miskena was incredibly unprofessional in my opinion. Dr. Miskena barely gave me time to ask questions and I did not see him examine my dog or even listen to her heart for a $60 office fee he could have at least done that.The main issues that my dog, Mia, has anxiety about having her paws touched, which I communicated clearly beforehand. During the visit, I even apologized for her behavior and it was basically ignored. There was no empathy or reassurance, just coldness and my mom and I felt very uncomfortable with his bedside manner.I was later told that four techs had to hold her down, her nails were cut so short they bled, and she would now need to be sedated for future nail trims—at a cost of $300.Instead of offering support or alternative solutions, Dr. Miskena raised his voice at me and seemed angry, which felt completely uncalled for and added unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.To make matters worse, I was quoted $20 for the nail trim, but was charged $45 without any prior notice or explanation. When they brought my dog back she was bleeding and distressed all while they complained about her.This experience left my dog traumatized and me heartbroken. I expected compassionate care and clear communication, but unfortunately, that was not our experience with this veterinarian. I hope the clinic re-evaluates how they approach anxious pets and treat their owners in the future with more kindness and professionalism.

After being out through the wringer with other vets, my beagle and I are so happy to have found West Woodward AH and Dr. Miskena. Other vets had a problem where my beagle would get squirmy when they were trying to do anything to him, whether it was checking his teeth or giving him his shots. Previous vets would try and alleviate this with treats, making my food-driven boy even more excited and harder to work with.When I got to WWAH, I skeptically sent my little boy back to get his shots. After just a few minutes with Dr. Miskena, he came back happy with no issues. Dr. Miskena nearly instantly knew what my boy needed to keep calm and happy. He’s a natural!Prices were great, and it’s family owned. Super happy I’ve found my new vet, and I’m still recommending West Woodward to friends and family weeks after my visit. Easy 5-stars.

Dr. John Miskena is the kind of vet you hope exists but rarely find. When our cat suddenly became lethargic and stopped eating, we feared the worst. Instead of sending us down a costly rabbit hole of endless tests, Dr. Miskena listened closely, trusted his clinical instincts, and correctly suspected inflammatory bowel disease. He started treatment right away—and it worked. Our cat is back to being himself, and we didn’t have to drain our savings to get there.But what really sets Dr. Miskena apart is how much he cares. He has called us after hours just to check in. Who does that anymore? He goes above and beyond, not for show, but because it matters to him that the animals he treats get better—and that the people who love them feel supported.If you’re looking for a vet who is smart, compassionate, and deeply committed to your pet’s well-being, Dr. Miskena is it. So friendly, caring and reasonable pricing. I highly recommend. We have been to him for everything. We have done vaccines, nail trim, serious skin rashes and now surgery. He is efficient and really good at what he does.

West Woodward animal hospital is the best veterinary service my wife and I have ever been to. Dr. Miskena is extremely knowledgeable and helpful for both our tabby cat Felix, who has anxiety issues, as well as our black lab mix puppy, Josie. Dr. Miskena also cares about his patients enough when he heard we were having issues with our pets and had difficulty bringing them in due to life circumstances, he never has hesitated to come to our home and either help our pets there or take them back to his clinic and return our pets back to us. We could not recommend west Woodward animal clinic more highly.
