VCA SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Center Reviews
I had a heartbreaking experience at this hospital that I feel compelled to share. I brought my cat in when he suddenly fell ill. Without offering any real options or further diagnostics, the staff immediately urged us to euthanize him due to fluid in his lungs. They closed off discussion and made us feel like there was no alternative. After the fact, we did our own research and learned that there were potential treatments and chances for recovery — but none of these were mentioned to us. It felt like they rushed us into the most extreme decision without giving us time to consider or understand all the options. We are devastated and left with the painful feeling that our cat could have been saved.Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this facility. It seemed like the vets were more comfortable ending lives than trying to save them. Pet owners deserve better — clear communication, compassion, and real effort to explore all possible paths before making irreversible decisions.
Jun 23, 2025 · Antar Al-MasoudyDr Black at VCA Southpaws is AMAZING!!!! My 1.5 year old Golden Retriever had been seen at her regular vet twice and an urgent care vet twice with no results. I brought her into VCA and Dr Black (and the entire staff) were angels. Through all of my tears, they explained all of the tests, all of the results, the prognosis, called me with all of the updates, including right before she went to get her MRI, and even showed me the MRI images. His team, explained all of the findings in a way that we understood, and in a gentle way bc it was not all good news. I would recommend Dr Black to ANYONE who loves their pup as much as we do. Worth every single penny to get answers. THANK YOU DR BLACK and TEAM for loving Oaklee like she was your own!
Feb 19, 2025 · Tracey SilverI highly recommend Dr Black (Neurologist) and the VCA Southpaws Team. Our cat started experiencing rapid loss of the use her hind legs and Dr Black quickly ran the tests, diagnosed the condition, and conducted successful surgery. Dr Black is kind, compassionate, and he was very communicative throughout the entire process. We also had a very positive experience from the front desk to the surgical/vet assistants. You can tell that they really care about your pets and it made the entire experience less stressful than it already was. Within one week, my cat has regained much of her functioning and is experiencing a much better quality of life. Thanks VCA Southpaws!
Apr 08, 2025 · Lauren FisherThey met us at the door with a gurney for our emergency. My 140lbs rottie was paralyzed and dr.Black and his team rushed him into neurology and stabilizer him. Super quick, super attentive and very informative. He had to stay for 2 nights, they called with updates, didn't push for surgery (it wasn't needed as it turns out), took their time to answer the questions and give detailed info about further care. And SPECIAL thanks to Brad, Negan's nurse! He called him baby boy and really cared for him like it was his own dog. Thank you for all you do, guys!
Mar 18, 2025 · Dee KoKoWe had to bring our family dog here for emergency treatment and the staff could not have been better. We were well informed about all of our treatment options and our dog was treated with care. Everyone who we interacted with was extremely sensitive and helpful and we were given plenty of time and attention.
