Stepping Stone Animal Society offers a focused range of veterinary services, primarily emphasizing preventative and essential care, delivered with a strong commitment to affordability. Their services are designed to address core health needs for pets in the Maryland community, making critical procedures accessible to more families.
- Spay and Neuter Services: A cornerstone of their offerings, Stepping Stone Animal Society provides highly affordable spaying for female cats and dogs, and neutering for male cats and dogs. As highlighted by customer reviews, the cost for these essential procedures is remarkably low, often including additional vital services like rabies vaccinations, nail trimming, and ear cleaning. This makes responsible pet ownership, particularly population control, financially viable for many families.
- Vaccinations: Essential vaccinations, such as the rabies shot, are integrated into their spay/neuter packages and are also available as standalone services. Vaccinations are crucial for protecting pets from common and dangerous diseases, contributing to overall community pet health.
- Microchipping: As an optional but highly recommended service, microchipping is available at a very reasonable additional cost. Microchips provide a permanent form of identification, significantly increasing the chances of reunification should a pet become lost, offering peace of mind to owners.
- Nail Trimming: Included as part of their spay/neuter services, nail trimming is a fundamental grooming practice that contributes to a pet's comfort and prevents potential health issues related to overgrown nails.
- Ear Cleaning: Also included with spay/neuter procedures, ear cleaning helps maintain ear hygiene and prevent infections, contributing to the overall health and comfort of the animal.
- Wellness Checks (Associated with Procedures): While not explicitly a full-service general practice, the nature of spay/neuter procedures includes a veterinary examination to ensure the animal is healthy enough for surgery. This provides a level of basic health assessment during the visit.
Stepping Stone Animal Society stands out for several compelling features and highlights that make it a cherished resource for pet owners in Maryland. These aspects directly address common concerns and demonstrate their dedication to both animal welfare and community support.
- Exceptional Affordability: This is arguably their most significant highlight, repeatedly praised in customer reviews. The highly competitive pricing for essential procedures like spaying and neutering makes vital pet care accessible to a broader demographic, including families with limited income. As one reviewer stated, a male cat neuter for only $50, including a rabies shot, nail trimming, and ear cleaning, is an "amazing price" that "definitely helped my family." This commitment to affordability directly supports responsible pet ownership in the community.
- Comprehensive Value-Added Services: Beyond the core procedure, the inclusion of rabies shots, nail trimming, and ear cleaning in their spay/neuter packages adds tremendous value. This bundled approach ensures pets receive multiple crucial services in one visit, enhancing overall health without additional separate costs or appointments. The optional $20 microchip further exemplifies their commitment to comprehensive care at a low cost.
- Compassionate and Welcoming Staff: Customers consistently praise the "kind," "helpful," "welcoming," "nice," and "accommodating" ladies at the front desk and the overall staff. This warm and supportive environment is crucial, especially for pet owners who might be anxious about their pet's procedure. The reviews highlight that the team "took great care of my kitties and went above and beyond," indicating a genuine dedication to animal well-being and client satisfaction.
- Focus on Essential Preventative Care: By specializing in high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and microchipping, Stepping Stone Animal Society plays a critical role in controlling pet overpopulation and preventing widespread diseases. This targeted approach significantly benefits the overall health of the local animal population in Maryland.
- High Recommendation Rate: The enthusiastic recommendations from satisfied clients, with one reviewer stating they would "give more than 5 stars if I could," underscore the clinic's positive reputation and the trust it has earned within the community. This strong word-of-mouth endorsement is a testament to their effective and compassionate service.

Stepping Stone Animal Society Reviews
This is my cat Asher. He got neutered recently here at Stepping Stone. I love the price to get a male cat neutered. It was only $50 bucks. With a rabies shot, nail trimming, and ear cleaning. You can also can get an optional $20 microchip.Definitely worth it. Since my husband is the only one in my home making income. So this clinic definitely helped my family. If you looking to make an appointment try to call early or in the afternoon when they aren't busy. Definitely call them if you don't hear from them if you waiting around 3pm.I wouldn't want to know how much a neuter is anywhere else. I definitely would come here again and recommend to other people. Love this clinic!

Jul 23, 2024 · KelseyTruly excellent not for profit basic dog ( and cat) services including rabies shots, other vaccinations , low cost Allegany County pet licences ( less for neutered & spayed animals), neutering of males, spaying females by highly competent vets, dedicated volunteer staff. Multiple forms of payment accepted.Unfortunately hours cut back r/t to COVID and subsequently to shortage of volunteer & reduced rate vets. Please check schedules / leave message to check on current availability of services. Highly competent and very kind staff; neuter/ spay clinics often have higher level skills as a consequence of extensive experience doing these procedures. Have had a total of 14 dogs & puppies spayed/ neutered over the years. Always responsible high quality care provided evenWith very small animals.
