City Creatures Animal Hospital provides a comprehensive range of veterinary services, addressing the diverse health needs of various animal companions, including a notable specialization in exotic pets.
- Comprehensive Wellness and Preventative Care: This includes routine physical examinations, tailored vaccination protocols for species-specific protection, comprehensive parasite control (for internal and external parasites), and personalized nutritional counseling. The focus is on proactive health management to ensure pets maintain optimal health throughout their lives.
- Exotic Pet Medicine: A significant specialization, offering expert veterinary care for a wide variety of exotic animals, such as reptiles (e.g., bearded dragons), birds, small mammals, and amphibians. This specialized knowledge is crucial for the unique needs of these particular species.
- Diagnostic Services: Utilizing advanced diagnostic tools for accurate and timely identification of health issues. This encompasses a full range of in-house laboratory services for rapid blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams, as well as modern imaging techniques like digital radiography (X-rays) and potentially ultrasound to assess internal conditions.
- Surgical Services: Performing a wide range of soft tissue and potentially orthopedic surgeries, from routine elective procedures (like spaying and neutering) to more complex operations necessitated by injury or disease. Patient safety is a top priority, with careful anesthetic monitoring and effective pain management protocols.
- Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are crucial for overall pet health. This includes professional dental cleanings (scaling and polishing under anesthesia), necessary extractions of diseased teeth, and advice on at-home dental hygiene to prevent periodontal disease and improve oral health.
- Emergency and Urgent Care (during business hours): While specific details on 24/7 emergency services aren't provided, the hospital's compassionate response to a sudden, critical illness in a pet (like the bearded dragon mentioned in a review) suggests they are equipped and ready to handle urgent situations during their operational hours, providing critical attention when unexpected needs arise.

City Creatures Animal Hospital truly distinguishes itself through several key features and highlights, as overwhelmingly praised by numerous New York pet owners, particularly in emotionally sensitive situations:
- Exceptional Compassion During Difficult Times: A paramount highlight is the hospital's profound empathy and support during end-of-life care. One powerful testimonial describes how the staff and doctor were "so kind" when a son had to make the hard choice of putting down his bearded dragon. They "walked him through the whole process" and crucially, "did not make him feel like he was neglectful towards his animal at all." This level of understanding and non-judgmental support is invaluable.
- Thoughtful Keepsakes and Memorialization: The hospital goes "above and beyond" by providing unique and cherished keepsakes. The reviewer specifically mentions that they "even casted Chef’s unique arm with his tail for my son to have and put him in a beautiful wooden box." These personalized gestures demonstrate an extraordinary level of care and sensitivity to grieving pet owners.
- Specialization in Exotic Pet Care: The ability to competently care for exotic animals, such as bearded dragons, is a significant feature. For owners of less common pets, finding skilled veterinary care can be challenging, making City Creatures a vital resource in the Buffalo area.
- Caring and Attentive Staff: Even during highly emotional moments, the staff is noted for being "attentive" and creating an experience as "easy as possible." This indicates a consistent level of professionalism blended with genuine care across the team.
- Comprehensive Medical Capabilities: While the standout reviews focus on compassion, the fact that they are a full-service hospital implies they are equipped with the necessary diagnostic and treatment tools to handle a wide range of medical conditions for diverse species.
However, it is important to acknowledge one review that describes a "very disappointing experience" with the front desk regarding scheduling a non-urgent appointment, where the client was "blatantly told 'I don’t think you should come to our clinic'" and then referred to another clinic described as "hard to get a hold of." While this represents a negative initial impression for that specific individual, it contrasts sharply with the overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding direct patient care and compassion. This could indicate an isolated incident, a particular communication challenge, or a policy related to new patient intake for non-urgent matters.

City Creatures Animal Hospital Reviews
If I could give this place 1 million stars I would! As I sit in my car crying right now because I just picked up my beloved bearded dragon Chef’s remains they were so attentive as my son had to make the hard choice of putting him down last week, the doctor and staff were so kind to him and did not make him feel like he was neglectful towards his animal at all which my son felt like he was because he got sick out of nowhere, they walked him through the whole process, and they even casted chef’s unique arm with his tail for my son to have and put him in a beautiful wooden box. I cannot thank you enough for making this as easy as possible for us!
Mar 18, 2025 · Shannon ZainoI had heard great things about City Creatures but I unfortunately didn’t even make it past talking to the front desk. My call was passed around between 2 receptionists where instead of trying to find a time that would work for both of us for an appointment that was not urgent whatsoever i was blatantly told “I don’t think you should come to our clinic”. She then referred me to another clinic which the woman then said is “hard to get a hold of”…Very disappointing experience, I now have to continue researching clinics that are a lot farther away from me and feeling hopeless because they are apparently “hard to get a hold of”
Jun 21, 2025 · Emily B1000/10! I wanted to get a second opinion on my dog’s condition, they got me in the very next morning as a new patient. Dr Reiller was so amazing along with the tech, everyone was incredibly sympathetic in a place where you have to deliver bad news all day every day. We were given so many options but I never felt pressured one way or the other and left feeling like we were doing the best we could for my dog. You can tell they do this because they truly love animals. Couldn’t recommend enough!
Jun 17, 2025 · Amy SEveryone there is truly amazing and compassionate people. My family has been going there for years and we recommend City Creatures to anyone looking for a vet. We currently have a 4 yr old cat, Gus, who is experiencing some serious health issues. The vets have been so helpful and knowledgeable, and I know are doing what they can to save our Gus' life. We appreciate them so much!
Jul 24, 2024 · Harvest GloverMy dog has been a client for years now and I have never had an issue here until today. My dog had her ear drained and was fitted for a sleeve type wrap for her head to wear home. The head wrap did not fit right, fell off as soon as we walked to the car and I was changed 97$ for something that was never going to fit properly. I had to wait an extremely long time after her ear draining for the head wrap to be put on as they were having trouble getting it to fit properly. I went back in to have them put it back on immediately and at that point I knew this was never going to stay on as it was cut and manipulated to “fit her head” When I came home and walked in the door it fell off again. Why change me for something so expensive for it to not work even before I leave the parking lot and know full well it was never going to even last through the night. When I called to try and rectify this situation I was told I had limited options. To top it off while I was paying before the incident in the parking lot, they offered me a courtesy discount for having to wait so long for them to fit this wrap on my dogs head. They returned my dog to me 15 min after paying to say that they “took off too much money in the courtesy discount and can I pay half of it back” They legitimately charged me for a mistake they had made for a discount I did not even ask for. After this experience I will be switching vets immediately.
