First State Urgent Vet focuses on providing comprehensive urgent veterinary care for a wide range of non-life-threatening conditions. Their services are designed to address immediate health concerns, offer quick diagnostics, and stabilize pets, while ensuring clear communication with both pet owners and their regular veterinarians.
- Urgent Veterinary Care: This is their primary service, offering immediate attention for conditions that require prompt access to a veterinarian but do not necessitate a 24-hour emergency hospital. This includes issues like:
- Vomiting and diarrhea (with or without blood in stool)
- Decreased appetite or lethargy
- Coughing, sneezing, and upper respiratory infections
- Allergic reactions (e.g., hives, facial swelling)
- Toxin ingestions (non-critical)
- Infections (ear, eye, skin, urinary tract)
- Minor trauma, wounds, and lacerations
- Broken nails and paw injuries
- Lameness, limping, and back pain
- Abscesses and skin problems (e.g., hot spots, rashes)
- Parasites
- Bad breath
- Mild heat stroke
- End-of-life care and euthanasia
- Walk-In Wellness Care: They also offer general wellness care on a walk-in basis, making routine services convenient for pet owners.
- In-House Diagnostic Services: Equipped with capabilities for quick diagnosis, which may include blood tests, urinalysis, and potentially X-rays, to quickly assess a pet's condition. Reviews mention "tests" being performed.
- Medication and Fluid Administration: Providing necessary medications and fluids to stabilize and treat pets, as evidenced by a review where a dog received "tests, fluids, and meds."
- Orthopedic Surgeries: They now offer outpatient orthopedic surgeries performed by a board-certified specialty surgeon, Dr. Albert Lynch. This is a significant expansion, bringing advanced surgical options to an urgent care setting for specific conditions.
- Dentistry: While general dentistry services are listed, it is likely focused on urgent dental issues or preventative aspects as part of their walk-in care model.
- Exotic Animal Care: Interestingly, they also cater to "exotic animals," expanding their reach beyond just dogs and cats.
- Post-Op Incision Checks: They can provide care for post-operative incisions, helping manage healing and identify any issues.
Note: First State Urgent Vet does not provide overnight stays or advanced surgical care that requires hospitalization. If a serious, life-threatening condition is diagnosed, they will discuss options including immediate transfer to a 24-hour emergency hospital.

Jun 23, 2025 · Jessica KressVery impressed with First State Urgent Care! Signed up online for the waitlist and brought him in. The entire staff was super friendly, including the reception, nurses and the vet! Tucker was nervous and they were so patient and kind to him. They saw Tucker right away, were super upfront and transparent about their pricing. Tucker got some tests, fluids, and meds and is already doing better today! Super grateful for this place. Saved us a trip to the ER and will have peace of mind until his appointment with his regular vet. Thank you guys so much!
Mar 30, 2025 · Katelynn PittsWe had a great experience at First State Urgent Care today! They were able to see my dog quickly for an issue with his eye and the doctor was very thorough. The staff was friendly and professional. My dog is usually very anxious at the vet but he seemed calm and comfortable here! They have an online wait list you can join so it notifies you when it’s time to head over to be seen. This way you don’t have to sit and waste time in the waiting room. It was an overall great experience and I am glad we found this clinic!
Jan 26, 2025 · K JI had to bring my Murphy in for stomach issues and everyone was amazing starting with the front desk staff. Dr. Downs was amazing. She made sure I understood what was going on and all my options and was beyond caring to not only Murphy but myself as well. I had to leave him there for a few hours and nurse Gianna made sure he felt safe and was comfortable by snuggling him and reading books to him. I am forever grateful for everyone there!
Dec 17, 2024 · Melissa YanonisHad to bring our dog in today after he got into something he shouldn't have and our usual vet was closed. The staff was incredibly reassuring, responsive, and knowledgeable. Definitely would recommend them to any pet owners! Felt our dog was in good hands the entire visit!
