VCA Fischer Animal Hospital Introduce
For pet owners across New Jersey, particularly those in Toms River and the broader Ocean County region, selecting a veterinary care provider is a decision of immense importance. Our animal companions are cherished family members, and their health and well-being deserve nothing less than exceptional care from a team that is both highly skilled and genuinely compassionate. VCA Fischer Animal Hospital in Toms River, NJ, aims to be that trusted partner, offering a range of services designed to support your pet through every stage of life.
VCA Fischer Animal Hospital, like many large veterinary groups, receives a spectrum of feedback from its clientele. One positive review highlights the deep affection and trust some pet owners have for the hospital, stating, "Love love love them! I've taken all my guinea pigs there, had them cremated, took my dog there today, great vet and helpers as well! I appreciate them patching up my 10 year old girl, they're understanding and patient and don't push unnecessary procedures. Again thank you!" This feedback underscores aspects of understanding, patience, and a perceived lack of pressure for unnecessary procedures, which are crucial for pet owners.
However, it is also important to acknowledge that some pet owners have expressed concerns. A review details a negative experience where a lump on a cat was quickly suggested as "probably cancer" with a significant cost estimate for diagnostics and surgery, only for a second opinion elsewhere to reveal it was a simple, inexpensive cyst. This client expressed "extreme disappointment" and decided not to return, raising questions about diagnostic approaches and transparency in cost. This highlights the importance for pet owners to feel fully informed and comfortable with recommended procedures and associated costs, and to seek second opinions if they have concerns. Understanding these varied experiences can help New Jersey locals make an informed decision when choosing veterinary care for their beloved pets.

May 27, 2025 · Jillian CoviGiving one star because everyone is very nice there. We just recently took our cat there after finding a lump. I was by myself and the doctor came in for not even five minutes after feeling it and said it’s probably cancer and they wanted to do bloodwork and an X-ray and after that would be surgery. That would’ve been about $800 just for the bloodwork and X-ray and I was told in the low thousands for the surgery. Obviously when someone hears the word cancer they are immediately terrified and I was ready to pay right then and there. I decided to hold off because I wanted to talk with my husband and we agreed to go ahead with the procedures and made an appointment for 3 days later. So we just paid $125 to see the Dr on Monday for five minutes and then it would’ve been an additional $90 to the $800(give or take) just to be seen again on Thursday. We ended up bringing our cat somewhere else and not only were we seen for FREE but the Dr knew within ten minutes that it was just a cyst and drained it right on the spot for under $30.I try to understand that the Dr at VCA might have not been as experienced but to try to make someone spend that much money for a cyst is absolutely ridiculous. Extremely disappointed with this place and we will not be going back.
Jun 20, 2025 · Lauren BrutkoI came here for the first and last time. I had to get a surgical consult for my dog to have a wart removed because my regular vet doesn't do surgery. We left with a plan for antibiotics and awaiting an estimate for the removal. On the way out they told me it's $78 for 14 antibiotic pills. I mentioned that he was on antibiotics last month from his regular vet and it was only $35. I paid the $78 but when I got home I looked up the out of pocket cost at several pharmacies and it was $40. Then told I got my estimate of $3100-3400 for them to remove the wart under anesthesia and a 24h hospital stay. I asked if they do electrocautery and they said no/I'd have to call around. This place is just a total money grab. Glad they're not my regular vet and that I have enough experience with vets over a lifetime to know to stay away from this place.
May 22, 2025 · GinaBrought my dog in for his pro heart shot. He got one here last year without an issue and was heartworm negative. We moved to a new area in which the vet doesn’t administer it, so we thought wed bring him back. I was told by my vet that if he is within the year of his last administration of the vaccine, he would NOT need a heartworm test. This makes sense, especially for my dog who has been getting this for 5+ years consistently. I called in advance a week prior and spoke with a few receptionists who spoke with MULTIPLE vet techs to confirm this. Everyone said the heartworm would not be necessary since it was within the year, and we'd only pay an exam fee and price of the shot. Totally fine, but we got bait and switched!Upon arrival, Vet Kreidweiss said she refused to administer it without a heartworm negative test. She said it was legally not allowed by NJ state law and VCA policy, and that sadly just simply isn’t true. When a dog has been consistently on prevention, especially administered by a vet with proven records yearly, it is not needed. I called the manufacturer of Proheart and confirmed this too. Unfortunately we scheduled his appointment the day the year was up on his vaccine, so I went ahead and had it done in the hopes I’ll dispute this with VCA. Once I was sent my itemized receipt, I found out that VCA had charged me for a test that included heart worm, other tick diseases, AND intestinal parasites!! They fraudulently charged me an absorbent price and lied about what they were charging me for!! So on top of cornering me into paying more for a heart worm negative via lying, they charged me for other tests I did NOT authorize!! AND they additionally subjected my dog to unnecessary testing and trauma. If not resolved at the level of VCA, I will be disputing this with my credit card company.Vet Kriedweiss was also extraordinarily rude in addition to blatantly lying for more profit. She tried to discredit my current vet by saying she didn’t know what she was talking about in terms of the heartworm test, even though multiple members of the staff at this specific VCA said it was true. Stay away from making appts with her if you can! I've had great experiences at other VCAs, this just isn't one of them. This location of the VCA chain is a fraudulent and nickel and dime type of establishment. They do not place dogs first, as evidenced by the fact that they put my dog through unnecessary testing and trauma to get an extra $140 dollars. This place will lie to you in order to get money, at the expense of your animal.
Mar 30, 2025 · Hayley McleanWe called twice to ask for the price to get our hedgehog cremated and were told the same thing twice. We went into the office on the day we were able to expecting said price and were told double, and for obvious reasons had no choice in the matter but to pay. The receptionist even said she had no idea where the person I got the price from over the phone got that price from unless she went back a few months with our previous hedgie with this hospital who we had to both euthanize and cremate. Upon pickup, we did not receive a ceramic paw print like we paid for we got a paw print on paper. They also almost let me leave without her favorite blanket which I specifically asked for back. Had I not asked at the time of pickup for it back it would have been left in the back.
