I can’t thank Dr. Leonard and the team at West Side Veterinary Hospital enough for the fantastic care they provided during Winston’s tail pocket surgery. Winston is my 4-year-old english bulldog, and before the surgery, he suffered frequent infections, discomfort, unpleasant odors, and an unfortunate habit of "butt-scooting" that left my area rugs blahhhhh. Dr. Leonard expertly addressed these issues with professionalism and compassion, ensuring that Winston was comfortable through every step of the process. The results truly speak for themselves. Since the surgery performed 10 weeks ago, Winston hasn’t had a single infection or sign of discomfort. He’s happier, healthier than ever!! The procedure not only improved his quality of life but also eliminated the stress I had about managing his recurrent tail pocket issues. That said, the 14-day recovery period required keeping Winston calm and limiting his activity, which was challenging at times. However, the clear post-operative instructions provided by the staff and their support throughout made a world of difference.I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Leonard and his team to anyone with a pup experiencing similar issues. Their expertise and kindness shine through, and Winston and I couldn’t be more grateful! - Joe Kachurak

Their commitment to both advanced medical care and empathetic support makes them a well-rounded and dependable partner for local pet owners. Their services include:

  • Surgical Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in various surgical procedures, including specialized operations like tail pocket surgery for English Bulldogs, which significantly improves a pet's quality of life by eliminating chronic infections and discomfort.
  • General Wellness & Preventive Care: While not explicitly detailed in reviews, standard veterinary practices typically offer routine physical examinations, customized vaccination protocols, and parasite prevention to maintain long-term health.
  • Advanced Diagnostics: A modern veterinary hospital is expected to utilize in-house laboratory services for blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic tests, along with imaging technologies like X-rays to aid in accurate diagnoses.
  • Dental Care: Essential for overall health, comprehensive dental services, including cleanings and extractions, would typically be part of their offerings.
  • Compassionate End-of-Life Care: A standout service, they provide incredibly sensitive, understanding, and accommodating support during the difficult process of euthanasia, ensuring peace and dignity for the pet and comfort for the grieving family. This includes offering private rooms and a separate exit.
  • Exotic Pet Care: A notable highlight is their willingness and ability to provide care for non-traditional pets, such as rabbits, which can be challenging to find in some areas, demonstrating a broader scope of practice.
  • Post-Operative Support & Instructions: Providing clear and comprehensive post-operative instructions, coupled with ongoing staff support, to ensure a smooth recovery process for pets after surgery.

  • Profound Compassion and Empathy during Difficult Times: This is perhaps their most celebrated highlight. The team, including Dr. Taylor and his staff, demonstrates extraordinary kindness, sympathy, and understanding during the heartbreaking process of euthanasia. Their willingness to make the process "so accommodating," providing private rooms, allowing owners to hold their pets throughout, and even sending a signed sympathy card, showcases genuine compassion that leaves a lasting positive impression during immense grief.
  • Supportive and Attentive Staff: Beyond the doctors, the entire staff is consistently praised for their kindness and supportive nature. They provide clear post-operative instructions and ongoing support, making challenging recovery periods more manageable for pet owners. Their attentiveness extends to sensitive situations, such as not requiring payment in the waiting room from grieving clients.
  • Accommodating Pet Care: Their flexibility and willingness to schedule appointments quickly, even for specialized pets like rabbits when other vets might not, highlights their commitment to serving a broad range of community needs and finding solutions for pet owners.
  • Genuine Care and Respect: The recurring theme in reviews is that pets are treated with dignity and respect, not just as "another case." This personalized, family-like approach ensures that both pets and their owners feel valued and understood.
