The Pet Supermarket on N Pleasantburg Dr in Greenville, SC, possesses several features that attract customers, alongside significant concerns regarding customer service at this particular branch.
Extensive Product Selection: A key highlight is the broad range of products available for various pets. One customer specifically praised their "large selection of bird supplies unlike other local pet stores," indicating a strong inventory that caters to diverse pet needs.
Convenient Self-Serve Dog Wash: The availability of self-serve dog wash stations is a highly valued feature, allowing pet owners a convenient and mess-free way to bathe their dogs. This is a practical solution for many South Carolina residents.
Generally Friendly and Helpful Staff (Contradicted): One positive review mentions "the staff is friendly and helpful." However, a very detailed negative review drastically contradicts this, reporting extremely rude and confrontational behavior from a female manager.
Healthy Adopted Pets: One customer reported adopting a "healthy girl" who acclimated well and became a "love bug," suggesting positive experiences with pets facilitated through the store, possibly via adoption partnerships.
Customer Service Issues (Significant Concern): A major reported downside at this specific location is the severe customer service breakdown documented by a long-time patron. This included:
Misinformation about restrooms: Being told a public restroom was available, then being yelled at when children attempted to use it.
Aggressive and Rude Manager: The female manager reportedly "yelled at the kids," "rudely said, 'this is not a restaurant and I don’t have to let you use my bathroom!'," and later "yelled that I was washing my dog in the wrong bath."
Unprofessional Conduct: The manager's declaration of "I’m not going to charge you but never come in my establishment again!" after a heated exchange.
Inconsistent Staff Communication: The negative review highlights a discrepancy between a male staff member's helpfulness (directing to a self-wash tub, assuring about restrooms) and the female manager's subsequent aggressive contradiction and refusal of service.

For pet owners in Greenville and the broader South Carolina region, the Pet Supermarket on N Pleasantburg Dr offers a mixed bag of suitability. On one hand, it functions as a convenient local resource for a wide range of pet products and services, making it a potentially suitable option for routine shopping.
Its extensive inventory, particularly noted for bird supplies, and the availability of practical amenities like the self-serve dog wash, address common needs for South Carolina pet parents. For those seeking a broad selection of pet food and accessories in a physically accessible location, this store can certainly fulfill those requirements. The positive experience of adopting a "healthy girl" also highlights successful aspects of their operations, possibly through partnerships with local rescues.
However, the significant and detailed negative customer review regarding the manager's conduct is a major point of concern that local residents must consider. Such accounts of rudeness, inconsistency in information (especially concerning restrooms), and outright hostile behavior toward customers, particularly in front of children, severely undermine the store's overall suitability as a welcoming and reliable establishment. While other Pet Supermarket locations in Greenville and Spartanburg are noted as being "more than nice," this specific branch appears to have notable issues with customer service that could lead to highly unpleasant experiences.
Therefore, while the store offers many practical benefits, its suitability for South Carolina locals is heavily qualified by the reported customer service inconsistencies. Prospective visitors are advised to approach this particular location with awareness of these potential issues and to consider if the convenience and product selection outweigh the risk of a negative personal interaction. For many, supporting a local business that consistently prioritizes customer respect and a positive shopping environment will be a deciding factor.

Pet Supermarket Reviews
I just adopted this healthy girl a few days ago. She's taken to her new home very well and is already a love bug! 💚They have a large selection of bird supplies unlike other local pet stores and the staff is friendly and helpful.
Mar 01, 2025 · Anna InmanOh my goodness!! If you know me you know I’m pretty easy to get along with and try to treat others the way I want to be treated. I have always loved Pet Supermarket to buy out pets’ food, supplies, and I love their self bath. HOWEVER, I will never again go to the Pet Supermarket on Pleasantburg. I was headed to the one on Pelham and called to see if their bath was still open, but it was broken. So I called the nearest one which was on Pleasantburg and asked about theirs. The nice man said they were open til 7 as long as I was done by then. Then since I wanted to hurry and get there I asked if they had a restroom because I had 3 little boys that needed to go! The man assured me they do. The boys went in with the dog I brought and asked for the restroom and the man said they couldn’t go alone and then said they didn’t have a public restroom. We have actually used the one there often since we have kids. So I had followed them in and figured they didn’t see me and didn’t want them to go alone. I took them in and as one boy was going out the door and I was still in With another one, the women yelled at the kids and said,”I told you we don’t have a public restroom!” I came out and told her we’ve always used it there and they were labeled “MEN” and “WOMEN”. She rudely said, “this is not a restaurant and I don’t have to let you use my bathroom!” I told her I’ve never been in as a customer and been fussed at for using their restroom! Then I went over to the baths and asked the man which one was free to use. I could tell he was cleaning them and he told me which one to use. I proceeded to wash my dog and the woman came up and yelled at one of my children to get off the step . (Ok, understandable, if he fell they could be held liable.) I told the boys to all hold hands and stand close to me. Then she yelled that I was washing my dog in the wrong bath. I nicely said the man had specifically told me to use that one. I don’t know what she was fussing about after that because I was trying to hurry and get out of there since it was now getting close to 7. I hurriedly dried my dog with 1 towel to just leave and let the boys take her on to the car while I paid. She said ,”I’m not going to charge you but never come in my establishment again!” I told her not to worry and I’ll be sure to let her boss know how kind she had been to customers. She said,”I am the manager!” As I was walking out. At this I bit my tongue, but would have loved to tell her she is not the owner and has to work for someone else. Since I was walking out anyway and I really hated that display of rudeness, especially in front of children. I just left. So you may want to avoid the Pet Supermarket on Pleasantburg. There are a couple more in Greenville that I go to and one in Spartanburg that I know of. They’ve always been more than nice!
Jan 26, 2025 · Lawson AshleyThis is the second chance we’ve given this store. The first time they were closed when they should have been open with no sign posted on the door that they were closing early. That’s fine, inconvenient but fine. I drove to the other location and got what I needed. This time. I send my husband to get baby brine shrimp. They want to tell him they don’t have it and don’t carry frozen fish food plus what he showed them wasn’t at their store. I’m not an idiot. I checked the correct location which said it was IN STOCK, just because the screenshot I happened to send him to help him get the correct product isn’t your location doesn’t me I didn’t check. If y’all don’t carry frozen fish food then you need to contact who ever does the website and FIX IT! Don’t try to make your customers feel like idiots because we are going off what your company has on the website. Pictures to show that it does in fact say THIS particular store does carry this item and it is in stock.
Apr 27, 2025 · Amanda StoneI love coming here. Not only because of the animals but the staff, especially Leona, are so kind and welcoming as soon as we walk through the door. We have bought several rabbits and just bought a ferret from here. They truly care about their animals. A lot of times when we go in if there are no customers, they are interacting with the animals. The animals are very well taken care of. The customer service team are so personable. I will continue to go in, even just to say hi.
Feb 09, 2025 · Laura FosterI liked the store but the prices were extreme and I mean on everything i was actually shocked that places like petsmart were cheaper. But other than that I liked it.
