- Wide Range of Products: Petco locations are known for offering over 10,000 high-quality pet products, ensuring that most pet owners can find what they need for their specific animal.
- Convenient One-Stop Shop: The combination of retail products and in-store services (like grooming and vet clinics) positions Petco as a convenient destination for various pet care needs, saving pet parents multiple trips.
- Emphasis on Animal Care Standards: Petco states a commitment to high animal health and welfare standards, developed under veterinary supervision and with expert counsel. They emphasize proper handling, continuous monitoring, and training for their "partners" (employees) who work with animals.
- Vendor Certification Programs: Petco requires all live animal vendors to participate in a rigorous certification program to ensure ethical sourcing and animal well-being in their supply chain. They also prioritize aquacultured aquatic life whenever possible.
- Positive Training Methods: Petco's dog training classes are designed around positive, reward-based methods to foster a respectful relationship between pets and their parents.
- "Think Adoption First" Philosophy: Petco strongly encourages pet adoption and partners with local animal welfare organizations to facilitate adoptions in their stores.
Despite these stated commitments, it is important to acknowledge that customer experiences, particularly those related to live animal departments and employee interactions, can sometimes present challenges. Reviews from this specific location highlight some areas where consistency in customer service, store cleanliness (particularly in animal habitats), and employee morale or training may be concerns. These indicate that while the corporate policy aims for high standards, the in-store execution can fluctuate. Customers have noted issues such as perceived unprofessionalism, a strong odor, and concerns about the health of some animals in tanks, alongside frustration with sales policies, particularly regarding feeder fish and perceived condescending attitudes. Petco's corporate guidelines emphasize that employees should maintain strict animal care policies and be knowledgeable and respectful of customers. It's advisable for patrons to evaluate their own experiences and communicate any concerns directly to management or through Petco's customer service channels.

Petco Reviews
Might as well start working here, i’d love to get payed to complain about my coworkers all day, and stand around and do nothing while a line piles up. it smells like dirty animals all the time, there’s always a handful of dead fish in the tanks, and most of the workers who are “managers” can’t even manage to hold a conversation that doesn't involve there dislike for one another. how are you gonna sell animals and be that unhappy?
Jun 25, 2025 · teddyMost unprofessional, rude, arrogant, condescending employees working in the fish department, wanted to buy 2 feeder goldfish to help get a new 20 gallon aquarium cycled through. He pretty much flat out refused to sell us the fish! Accused me of becoming angry, when I was trying to explain to him about our setup. He said the health and the well being of the fish comes first, if this were some very expensive fancy fish I might have understood. But this tank of probably 500 goldfish for 50 cents a fish is different. I guess he wasn't too upset about the health and well-being of the dead ones rotting on the bottom of the fish tank! I told him let's be realistic! Most of these fish won't live to see next month. I respect a stores policy! But maybe train your employees to respect customers! I will never be back, and I will tell everyone I know not too shop there!
Apr 05, 2025 · Jeff SteppPetco has now been out of the dog food our dogs multiple times. I had to change Dog food today as our dogs were out completely. After being on now for a couple of years I will be very upset if they have stomach issues with the change. Their shelves are very bare with the Hills science diet Brand foods so good luck if this is brand you use. Also beware of Vital care. I only inqured about canceling after being member for many years and they canceled anyways immediately without my consent but then refused to fix the mistake or apply the discount. Then they also said no partial or full refund for the last month I paid for but did not get any benefit from. Customer care does not care or even apologize for anything or try to keep you just repeats same thing and makes it out i did cancel my fault basicly. We were going to stay longer on program but for sure now we are done with Petco altogether! Time to use Pet Smart I think! Horrible customer service need better training!
Jun 13, 2025 · Rick AdamskiI came in to buy 6 feeder goldfish and then was getting questioned about our tank set-up. My husband was telling the young male until my husband was told by the young male the he was being rude and could hear the anger in my husband's voice. My husband is very soft spoken and never raised his voice and was not angry. Your employee was so very nasty to us. We were new customers but the way we were treated makes it very doubtful about us returning. Once our tank is completely ready, we will be buying the much nicer fish somewhere else. Sorry Petco but you lost us and my 3 adult daughters as customers.
Apr 05, 2025 · LauraMom KamPatrick was very condescending and mean when I tried to return a shrimp that died a few hours after purchasing, likely after being injured when taken out of the Petco tank (the other shrimp I purchased at the same time is fine). Will be going elsewhere from now on... Just a forewarning to those who go to Petco for their fish needs, it seems like a lot of others have had poor experiences as well.
