This article will offer an overview of The Reptile Depot, discussing its location, what it offers, and why it might be a suitable, though potentially complex, choice for local users in Pennsylvania looking to enter or expand their world of exotic pets.
The Reptile Depot's distinct focus on reptiles and amphibians sets it apart from general pet stores. While some customers have reported positive experiences, particularly regarding initial guidance and product selection for new pets, other reviews highlight concerns about animal health and business practices, which are important considerations for any potential buyer. The store's primary goal appears to be serving the needs of the reptile community, offering a range of species such as geckos, snakes, chameleons, turtles, tortoises, tarantulas, and scorpions, along with their necessary feed and accessories. For those specifically seeking reptiles and specialized advice for their care, a dedicated store like The Reptile Depot can be a valuable resource, providing a concentrated selection and potentially deeper expertise than broader pet retailers.

It's advisable for potential visitors to plan their visit regarding parking, especially during peak hours.
- Sale of Reptiles and Amphibians: The Reptile Depot specializes in offering a variety of live reptiles and amphibians, including but not limited to geckos, snakes, chameleons, turtles, tortoises, tarantulas, and scorpions. This provides a direct source for exotic pets for local enthusiasts.
- Reptile and Amphibian Supplies: The store provides essential accessories and feed for the reptiles and amphibians they sell. This includes various types of food, terrarium setups, lighting, heating elements, substrates, and other necessary equipment to ensure proper care for these animals.
- Guidance on Pet Care: Based on a positive customer review, the staff (potentially the owner) offers information and guidance on caring for specific reptile types, helping new owners set up appropriate habitats and understand their pet's needs. This can be crucial for individuals new to exotic pet ownership.
- Live Feeder Guarantee (with conditions): For live feeders, the store may offer a live arrival guarantee, particularly if held at the local post office or shipped overnight under specific temperature conditions. This is an important consideration for customers purchasing live food for their reptiles.
- Wholesale Inquiries: The store also indicates a wholesale policy, suggesting they may supply other retailers or large-scale breeders, indicating a larger operational capacity within the reptile market.
It is important for potential customers to be aware that while a positive experience regarding initial purchase and advice was reported, other reviews mention concerns about animal health (e.g., potential shell rot in turtles) and issues with sales processes (e.g., no paper trail for cash transactions). Customers are advised to thoroughly research specific animal care needs and inspect animals carefully before purchase.
- Specialization in Reptiles and Amphibians: The Reptile Depot's primary highlight is its dedicated focus on reptiles and amphibians. This specialization means a deeper inventory and potentially more niche knowledge compared to general pet stores, appealing to a specific segment of pet owners in Pennsylvania.
- Diverse Range of Exotic Animals: The store offers a variety of species, from popular geckos and snakes to less common chameleons, tarantulas, and scorpions, providing options for different levels of interest and experience.
- Comprehensive Set-up and Supply Availability: For new pet owners, the ability to purchase a "complete set up and all the supplies needed" in one place, as noted by a customer, is a significant convenience.
- Owner's/Staff's Direct Guidance: A positive review highlighted personal guidance from the owner or staff, who "answered all questions" and helped the customer feel "ready and prepared" for their new gecko. This personalized attention can be very valuable.
- Competitive Pricing (as perceived by some): One customer noted that "prices on things seemed very good if not lower than I expected," suggesting potential value for specialized supplies.
- Potential for Rare Finds: For serious hobbyists, a specialized store like The Reptile Depot might be a source for specific morphs or less common species that are harder to find at larger retailers.
However, it is crucial to address concerns raised in other reviews regarding alleged issues with animal health (e.g., shell rot), potential lack of proper documentation for cash purchases, and disputes over accountability and return policies. These factors are important considerations for any buyer and suggest the need for careful due diligence.

The Reptile Depot Reviews
My son has been asking for a pet gecko for months. Last week for his birthday we decided to go in and get some information on them since I literally knew nothing. The owner (I’m assuming) lead us in the right direction of the type of gecko that would work best for us. Not only that, he answered all questions we had. We decided to get the gecko that day. We left with a complete set up and all the supplies needed. The prices on things seemed very good if not lower than I expected. He also told us we could reach out with any other questions. I felt we got the adequate knowledge we needed to care for the gecko and felt comfortable leaving with it. All in all we are very happy with our new pet, Mondo!
Jun 11, 2025 · M FEdit: Yes you did, because I came there on wednesday in the whitehall location. I also have a full line of conversation with you on FB. 👌 You even said you saw me look at the turtle a few times. I did some digging around, turns out I am not the only person you have been shafting. You keep wood turtles in with your aquatic turtles. You sold me the turtle without a paper trail because your machine was down. Pat I've seen your reviews and you never seem to want to take accountability. You can keep the 100$ and the review. So I come here quite often, the employees are fairly nice. I see he has multiple turtles for sales in a small enclosure. I went and bought one of their turtles. It had white patches which looked small at first so I did not think much of it, but then I find out that it's likely shellrot because of how the shell is slightly piting in one area. Owner says he's bred him before but she's still too young to breed, and as other employees in the past have said he gets these from someone else. I paid cash, because his systems were down. He asks me to take her to the vet and if the vet confirms its shellrot that they will accept a return knowing full well that the vet cost will outweigh the costs of a return- so he's doing that out of spite. You can keep the 100$ because you lost a customer. 🤷♂️Buyer beware.
Jun 30, 2025 · Kevin KevinGreat service, they always interact and help with anything you need. I’ve been coming here for awhile and the owner cares about all animals and fish he has in his store . Does his research and keeps his prices more then fair for the everyday animal enthusiast. I drive an hour to this location for a reason . Keep on mind all animals get cycled out everyday so these are not there permanent homes and people think each lizard or fish needs its own 100 gallon and that’s just not the case for any pet store . Every time I come there’s new animals , never the same .
May 09, 2025 · Cody HuberGreat reptile shop. They sell all types of Snakes, Chameleons, frogs, turtles, fish, and geckos. Food: (rats of various sizes) mice ( crickets roaches and horned worms) supplies and supplements. Variety of tanks, enclosures, and live plants. They are cheaper than larger retailers, too. Love this place!
Mar 23, 2025 · DWent in with my mum to check it out since it was our first time there and to restock on needed items for her two tortoises. Not only was everything labeled with their pricing, but they had everything she needed and then some at amazing prices. The owner was extremely knowledgeable and answered questions my mum had and even showed some additional things that would help for the overall care of her tortoises. Outside of reptiles, they also have a small section with a mix of local and imported bred fish. All the fish were very healthy, lively, and the tanks were crystal clean. Bought a few black Venezuelan corys, and I am very pleased with my selection. Will definitely be coming back when we need a restock! Everyone should go and support local stores like this one.
