Your Pet Fish is located at 2741 E Belt Line Rd Apt 109, Carrollton, TX 75006, USA. This address places the aquarium store within Carrollton, a vibrant city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Belt Line Road is a significant thoroughfare, making the location relatively accessible for residents throughout Carrollton and surrounding areas such as Addison, Farmers Branch, and Coppell. Its presence in an apartment or commercial complex suggests that parking may be available, which is a practical consideration for customers who might be transporting live fish or larger aquarium supplies. For local hobbyists, the convenience of a dedicated fish store like Your Pet Fish being within a reasonable driving distance is a valuable asset, allowing for easy access to specialized livestock and expert advice without venturing too far.

Your Pet Fish presents a mixed set of features and highlights based on customer experiences. While some aspects are praised, others have drawn significant criticism.
Features / Highlights:
- Knowledgeable Owner/Staff: One positive review specifically highlights the owner's knowledge, stating he "explains everything about the fish before you get the fish. How to care for them." This indicates a commitment to educating customers.
- Variety and Uniqueness of Fish: Customers appreciate the "variety" and "beautiful fish," with mentions of "rare community fish," "monster fish," and "Fly River Turtles," suggesting a unique and extensive selection that sets it apart from more general pet stores.
- Dedication to Customer Education: The effort to explain fish care before purchase is a significant positive, helping new and experienced hobbyists alike to succeed.
However, it is imperative to address critical concerns raised by other customers, which highlight significant issues:
- Questionable Tank Conditions: Multiple severe complaints detail "disgusting smell," "extremely dirty" tanks covered in "Algae & fish feces," and fish kept in "extremely small tanks" leading to "overcrowding" and fish being "stuck to not being able to move about."
- Ethical Concerns Regarding Animal Welfare: The descriptions of fish "touching mouth to tail" and "low on the water level" for some tanks raise serious questions about the living conditions and overall welfare of the animals.
- High Pricing Relative to Conditions: Customers find the fish to be "WAY overpriced" (e.g., "$300 for one discus fish, $60 for one angel fish, some fish were over 1,000," "Baby Gars were way over 1,000") given the poor stated conditions.
- Lack of Consistent Maintenance: Direct responses from the owner claiming "routine water changes" are contradicted by customer observations of persistent algae, dirty water, and low water levels, suggesting inconsistent or inadequate care practices.

In conclusion, for aquatic enthusiasts in Carrollton, Texas, Your Pet Fish presents a complex picture. On one hand, the store is praised for its owner's knowledge, dedication to customer education on fish care, and a truly unique and extensive selection of rare and exotic fish that might not be found elsewhere in the DFW metroplex. This aspect could be highly appealing to hobbyists looking for specific or unusual aquatic species. The convenience of its location on a major road also adds to its accessibility for local users.
However, it is critical for potential customers to be aware of the serious and consistent negative feedback regarding the store's cleanliness, the overcrowded and dirty conditions of the tanks, and the perceived poor welfare of some of the fish. These concerns, including reports of a "disgusting smell" and highly priced fish kept in substandard environments, cannot be overlooked. While one review expresses great satisfaction and promises a return visit, others strongly advise against visiting and even suggest the establishment should be shut down.
Ultimately, whether Your Pet Fish is suitable for locals depends heavily on individual priorities. For those prioritizing access to rare and diverse species and specific owner guidance, it might hold appeal. However, for pet owners who place a strong emphasis on animal welfare, ethical practices, and a clean shopping environment, the reported conditions raise significant concerns that warrant careful consideration. Locals are encouraged to visit in person and assess the conditions themselves to make an informed decision aligned with their personal values regarding pet care.

Your Pet Fish Reviews
Love this store and the owner is so knowledgeable and he explains everything about the fish before you get the fish. How to care for them. Definitely be coming back to the store. Thanks for doing such an awesome job. Love the variety beautiful fish
Jun 13, 2025 · Irene VarelaIf I could give this place a zero rating I would. I walked in today 2/10/24 and the first thing that hits you in the face is the disgusting smell.. it smells like a sewer. Then as you continue in you get to see a lot of adult fish in extremely small tanks, some of them are so small the fish are just stuck to not being able to move about & overcrowding. They had some fish that were touching mouth to tail and they even had over 6 Large discus’s in one small sized tank. Discus like most fish are supposed to be kept in clean water conditions but the tank they were in were extremely dirty. A lot of tanks were covered in Algae & fish feces. The poor fish are kept in horrible conditions and not to mention the fish are WAY overpriced. $300 for one discus fish, $60 for one angel fish, some fish were over 1,000. Baby Gars were way over 1,000 as well. The place looked & def smelled dirty & the pictures are just a few of the many bad conditions of these fish. This place needs to be shut down immediately.Edit: To your response from my review you definitely do NOT do regular water changes on these tanks the pictures alone speak for themselves, algae doesn’t happen overnight & one of the common causes of it is not doing frequent water changes & can cause that nasty smell. It’s the lack of care y’all give that’s sad that y’all are even still open. So where you get off saying you charge a lot of money based off the care & upkeep you provide is baffling. Next “routine water changes” do NOT smell like a sewer, coming from an experienced fish keeper. Also you walk into other fish stores & never smell this horrible during water changes. I’m not the first one to comment on the smell of your establishment & poor conditions of these fish in the reviews & someone else also agreed about having this place shut down immediately because of the lack of care that goes into these beautiful fish. Leaving a long response about how you have “good reviews” and “routine maintenance” doesn’t change anything from what we saw in person & pictures/videos speak for themselves. Instead of taking the time do leave paragraphs, use your time wisely & properly clean these tanks & give these fish bigger tanks to live in as your promoting their sell or don’t own a fish store. You even had a tank that was low on the water level for some fish, how do you miss that if you do routine maintenance?
Feb 13, 2024 · Barbie JeanAlright! Alright! Finally found a place to have some exotic fish in my tank. I really like the decor at the front when I walked in. All the fish looked very healthy and well taken care of. I asked one of the sales guy for a specific exotic fish I wanted, after two and half week later I was able to pick it up. I highly recommend this place if your an aquarist like me.
Sep 17, 2022 · Mostaque AhmedThis is a little gem of an aquarium store. Yes, it’s a bit dark, and the aquariums are not spotless clean. Most of the limited selection of aquatic plants are not in great condition. However, the store more than makes up for its shortcomings with the excellent selection of fish species that are rarely seen in the DFW area. They seem to specialize in L-number plecos and large predatory fish. A few cool species I saw in the store today included juvenile Giant River Threadfin, Freshwater Tiger Moray, Purple Yangtze Loach, Marbled Lancer Catfish, and my favorite pleco, the Zebra Pleco. If you are in the market for unusual, exotic or rarely seen fish species, you may find it at this store.
Dec 30, 2024 · Eli WangMy boyfriend and I came in with hopes to buy a fish as we just upgraded our tank. As the options were endless, it seemed to be way over priced. $500 for one fish. $2000 for another. Ridiculous. We spent about 30 mins in the store looking at all the tanks and the entire time we were there the employee didn’t once come and chat with us or checked on us but made sure to keep an eye on us as he kept peaking around the corner. We walked the place twice before my boyfriend made a comment about the lack of customer service. We had just came from another fish store that had given us exceptional service. I was no longer interested in purchasing from this establishment and suggested we leave. We would’ve been more willing to purchase something responsible if we had been given the correct customer service.
