I don’t know where to begin. I took my senior cat there for an emergency and they were so incredible I decided to switch all my fur babies there. I took him back for a yearly and they did senior bloodwork just as a baseline and came back diagnosed him with the beginning of pancreatitis and diabetes. Which was surprising because he showed zero signs of either. However, this began months of treatments thousands of dollars and multiple trips back and forth each week. Which, with a diagnosis of pancreatitis, is warranted. The staff was Very nice and they did most of the communications between the doctor and I - I rarely got to speak with him directly. At some point, he wanted my senior cat to take pain meds- he prescribed Tramadol 50mg 1/2 tablets 3 times a day. The first day he was given two doses, almost 3 - but I noticed he wasn’t right. He couldn’t walk, he didn’t respond to commands or noises, and his eyes were dilated. He was going to the bathroom right where he stood. It was late- so we decided to contact a tele-med Vet ,not affiliated with this vet, to see if this was due to this Tramadol. Sure enough it was. The vet we spoke to told us that he was grossly overdosed on the Tramadol. It’s supposed to be 2mg per pound, our baby only weighs 7 pounds therefore he should’ve only received 14mg per day at the most and he was prescribed 75mg per day. We had given him two doses (50mg) before contacting the online vet. The online vet assured us he’d be okay eventually, but it had to work itself out of his system- (which that took a WEEK for him to be back to his normal self.). Anyway, the online vet gave us things to look for in the event he made a turn for the worse to take him to emergency. The next day I called animals first to inform them of this mistake- the reception called back and stated that the doctor said “ he prescribes the same dose for all his patients, some can handle it better then others”. This was my sign to leave this practice immediately. My baby could’ve died and the fact that they see no issue with this overdosing is concerning. The cost of care exceeds the quality of care from the doctor. I now have a new vet that can’t even get the records from animals first despite countless efforts. Where we are now is way more affordable and the quality of care is exceptional by the staff and doctors. - Taryn Kerper
