Banfield Pet Hospital in Stoneham, MA, has garnered a range of feedback from Massachusetts pet owners, highlighting distinct features and areas for consideration. Here’s a summary based on common experiences:
- Consistent Care and Dedicated Staff: Many long-term clients praise the "consistently outstanding care" from veterinarians and staff, emphasizing that they "work exceptionally hard, to do a good job, and take care of our dogs." This speaks to the commitment and effort of the local team.
- Benefits of Wellness Plans: For some, the Banfield Wellness Plans have been highly beneficial, with one client stating their dogs have been "very well served, and cared for, by their Banfield Wellness Plans, and Banfield hospitals," contributing to "excellent health" over a quarter-century. These plans can offer financial predictability for routine care.
- Quality of Surgical Procedures: Positive accounts include satisfaction with the appearance of surgical closures, with one review noting that mass removals looked like they were "performed by a human plastic surgeon," indicating attention to detail in surgical outcomes.
- Focus on Preventive Care: The structure of Wellness Plans encourages regular check-ups and preventative measures, which can be a significant advantage for maintaining pet health over time.
However, it's also important to acknowledge feedback that suggests areas of concern for some pet owners:
- Perceived "Budget Quality" Care: Some clients have expressed concerns about the overall quality of care compared to specialty clinics. One review stated, "I went to a specialty cat clinic and realized how budget price from Banfield leads to budget quality care," raising questions about the depth of diagnostic exploration or treatment options offered for complex conditions.
- Staffing Issues and Delays: Acknowledged "vet staffing issues" at this location may have contributed to perceived limitations in care or "significant delays in getting refills for medications."
- Limited Options for Complex Conditions: For conditions like arthritis, some clients felt "very limited options for helping her" were offered, suggesting that advanced or varied treatment approaches might not always be the primary focus.
- Missed Diagnoses/Follow-ups: Concerns about missed dental issues (e.g., "ended up having a tooth abscess" despite prior cleanings) and the need to "push them to do studies and get our cat on a special diet" at other Banfield locations indicate potential inconsistencies in thoroughness or proactive problem-solving.
- Nice Staff, but Care Quality Questioned: While staff are often described as "nice," the underlying concern for some remains the "quality of care delivered is the issue," leading to a reluctance to recommend.
These combined perspectives suggest that Banfield Stoneham can be a good fit for routine, preventative care, especially with a Wellness Plan, but some pet owners seeking more specialized or in-depth diagnostic approaches for complex conditions may find a need to seek alternative options.

However, it's also important for Massachusetts locals to consider the full spectrum of experiences shared. While the staff are consistently described as kind, some feedback suggests that for pets with more complex or unusual health issues, or for those seeking highly specialized diagnostic work, the depth of care might not always align with expectations compared to independent or specialty clinics. Perceived staffing issues and delays for medication refills are also points to factor in. Ultimately, Banfield Pet Hospital in Stoneham can be a strong contender for those prioritizing predictable costs for routine wellness and who appreciate a friendly team. For pet owners whose animals may require extensive, specialized, or complex medical investigations, it's advisable to have a thorough discussion about the scope of services available and consider whether supplemental specialist care might be necessary to ensure all needs are met for their beloved Massachusetts pets.

Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
Our dogs have received consistently outstanding care from the Veterinarians and staff at the Banfield Pet Hospital, in Stoneham, MA.Our dogs have been enrolled in Banfield Wellness Plans for a quarter of a century, and have been very well served, and cared for, by their Banfield Wellness Plans, and Banfield hospitals. The dogs have maintained excellent health, because of their Banfield Wellness Plans, and veterinary care.In my opinion, the Veterinarians and staff at the Banfield Pet Hospital in Stoneham, MA, work exceptionally hard, to do a good job, and take care of our dogs. Our dogs recently had their annual dental exams and cleanings, and one of them had two masses removed. The dogs were very well cared for. The closures of the two mass removals, looks like they were performed by a human plastic surgeon.
Jun 18, 2025 · Klaus ReinhardtI thought they were doing a decent job until I went to a specialty cat clinic and realized how budget price from Banfield leads to budget quality care. This location admittedly was having vet staffing issues which may have contributed. I admit that the staff are nice, just the quality of care delivered is the issueOne of our cats has arthritis and we were offered very limited options for helping her.We were getting the cats dental cleanings that were part of the care plan and thought things were fine but after taking them to another vet one of them ended up having a tooth abscess. There were also significant delays in getting refills for medicationsFinally, not this Banfield but another one, we had to push them to do studies and get our cat on a special diet so he would stop having bloody diarrhea. Not sure if I’d recommend Banfield to others anymore after I’ve seen how much better care is elsewhere
Feb 11, 2025 · James Ray LimHighly recommend Banfield in Stoneham for your furry friend health care needs. The staff is very helpful and always courteous. My Alis receives the best care there. So happy I decided to bring her there.
Sep 18, 2024 · Sandy MojicaVery upsetting experience today. For the first time in my life, the vet today at the Stoneham location was condescending and nasty regarding my dogs dental visit. The vet also tried to accuse me of trying to have him commit insurance fraud regarding writing his “findings” when my dog does not even have insurance!! Truly flabbergasted by his unprofessional demeanor. The rest of the staff was lovely and very helpful but because of the behavior by the DVM I will now be transferring care to another location.
Feb 05, 2025 · Adriana GreenThey'll lie over pricing to get you into the office then they will try to force you to get their "insurance" which isn't actual pet insurance just a subscription plan to Banfield. If you don't want to pay the minimum $45 a month they require you to do a full check up each time you go in for an added $105 just for a $37 round of shots. Even if at your last appointment, which was less than 2 weeks prior, your animal had a full check up and they said they are in purrfect health. If you want to go to a place that cares solely on money and not animal care, this place is for you!!
