The accessibility of Blandford Animal Hospital is a significant advantage for local pet owners in this more rural part of Massachusetts. While not on a major highway, its presence within the community means that quality veterinary care is directly available without extensive travel to larger cities. This ease of access is particularly important for routine wellness visits, which are crucial for preventive care, and even more so during urgent situations where timely veterinary attention can make a critical difference for a pet's health. For residents of Blandford, Russell, Huntington, and other nearby towns, having a dedicated local animal hospital provides immense peace of mind and convenience.
---Blandford Animal Hospital aims to provide comprehensive veterinary care, focusing on the health and well-being of pets. While a highly detailed list of every specific service is best obtained directly from the hospital, based on typical general practice standards and client testimonials, their offerings would generally include:
General Wellness and Preventive Care: This foundational care includes routine physical examinations, tailored vaccination protocols to protect against common diseases, and effective parasite prevention and control programs (for heartworms, fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites). Regular check-ups are emphasized for early detection of health issues.
Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose illnesses or injuries, veterinary hospitals typically utilize various diagnostic tools. This would likely include:
- In-house Laboratory Testing: For rapid results on blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams to assess organ function and detect underlying conditions.
- Radiography (X-rays): For imaging bones and internal organs to help diagnose fractures, foreign bodies, or other internal issues.
Surgical Procedures: Common surgical services often include routine spaying and neutering, which are crucial for pet population control and offer significant health benefits. They would also likely perform various soft tissue surgeries for medical necessities.
Dental Care: Pet dental health is vital for their overall well-being. Services often include professional dental cleanings and potentially extractions to address periodontal disease and other oral issues.
Pain Management: Strategies to alleviate pain, whether it's acute pain from an injury or surgery, or chronic pain from conditions like arthritis, to improve a pet's quality of life.
Nutritional Counseling: Guidance on appropriate diets for different life stages, specific health conditions, and weight management, helping pet owners make informed choices about their pet's nutrition.
Microchipping: Offering microchip implantation as a crucial safety measure to permanently identify pets and increase the chances of reunion if lost.
Geriatric Pet Care: Dedicated care for senior pets, focusing on managing age-related conditions and maintaining their comfort and quality of life in their golden years.
Compassionate End-of-Life Care: Providing empathetic support and options during difficult times, including euthanasia services, with a focus on dignity and respecting the bond between pets and their families.
Blandford Animal Hospital is highly regarded for several key features that make it a suitable choice for pet owners in Western Massachusetts:
Exceptional Care and Compassion: Clients consistently praise the "care, compassion and support" provided by everyone at the hospital, particularly during profoundly difficult times such as losing a pet to cancer. This deep empathy is a defining characteristic of their service.
Personalized Attention: The sentiment "We have been seen at the last minute, fit into schedules and have never felt like just another client here" highlights their commitment to personalized care and making clients feel valued and heard, rather than merely processing appointments.
Dedicated and Caring Staff: The staff are consistently described as "very caring, dedicated," indicating a team that is genuinely invested in the well-being of the animals they treat and the peace of mind of their owners.
Reasonable Prices: Clients appreciate the "reasonable prices," making quality veterinary care more accessible and affordable for members of the community, which is a significant factor for many pet owners.
Responsiveness to Urgent Needs: The ability to be "seen at the last minute" and "fit into schedules" suggests a commendable level of flexibility and responsiveness to urgent or unexpected pet health concerns, a critical aspect of reliable veterinary care.
Community Value: The sentiment "The community is lucky to have you" from a long-term client underscores the hospital's integral and valued role within the local Blandford and wider Western MA community.
It's worth noting that while the clinic provides excellent care during regular hours, a reviewer mentioned they "don't offer 24 hour emergency hours." This is fully understandable for a local practice of its size and location, and pet owners should be aware of this and have a plan for after-hours emergencies, typically through a regional emergency veterinary hospital.

Jun 19, 2025 · Stephanie SimonowiczVery caring, dedicated staff. Reasonable prices. Only 4* because they don't offer 24 hour emergency hours(Fully understandable given the size of the office, age of the staff, area demographics etc
Jun 06, 2025 · Andrea JasinskiI can’t speak for the other veterinarians but dr. Russ is the most compassionate, gentle experienced vet we have ever used! We’ve had numerous bad experiences with other very overpriced vets in the area so we only see dr. Russ!! I cannot express my appreciation enough for the care my dogs received and the kindness of the staff! very affordable Highly recommend! Poppy and Toby thank you as well
Nov 01, 2024 · Kira AlbertWe adopted a kitten via a shelter in western MA, recommended from a friend. Blanford did the spay surgery. The incision site was infected and poorly done. We have photos. It was oddly folded. I’ve adopted cats for many years, not from this shelter or hospital, have never seen stitching like this. It looked infected when we picked her up. We took her to our vet, they brought her into surgery to trim away the infected tissue, and re-stich the wound. I will be calling the animal hospital to inquire which doctor executed the spay. They also confused our pet with a male kitten. And they were too lazy to start new paperwork. Instead crossed out the incorrect information, and wrote the accurate information.
Jun 08, 2025 · Tracy NovelloWe brought our little Lilly, a 6 month old pomeranian to be spayed and we were devastated to find out she died. She was in great shape when we bought her and now she is in the ground. Oh so very sad. Not much sympathy from them. I will never bring an animal to them again
