CVCA Cardiac Care For Pets specializes exclusively in veterinary cardiology, meaning their entire practice is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of heart and lung diseases in pets. Their team of board-certified veterinary cardiologists utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and the latest advancements in cardiac medicine to provide comprehensive and precise care.
- Echocardiography (Cardiac Ultrasound): This is the gold standard for diagnosing most heart conditions. It's a non-invasive procedure that provides detailed, real-time images of the heart's structure and function, allowing cardiologists to assess valve function, chamber size, and blood flow. CVCA uses the latest human pediatric imaging equipment for immediate and accurate diagnosis.
- Electrocardiography (ECG/EKG): Records the electrical activity of the heart to diagnose arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) and other electrical abnormalities.
- Holter Monitoring: A portable ECG device that continuously records heart activity over 24-48 hours, essential for detecting intermittent arrhythmias that might not be present during a brief clinic visit.
- Thoracic Radiography (X-rays): Used to evaluate heart size and shape, assess the lungs for fluid accumulation (indicating congestive heart failure), and examine the surrounding structures.
- Blood Pressure Measurement: Routine monitoring and management of blood pressure, as hypertension can significantly impact heart health.
- Blood Tests: Specialized blood tests, including cardiac biomarkers, to assess heart function and overall health, aiding in diagnosis and treatment monitoring.
- Consultations for Heart Murmurs and Coughing: Comprehensive evaluations for pets exhibiting symptoms like heart murmurs, coughing, shortness of breath, lethargy, or fainting spells.
- Medical Management of Heart Disease: Developing individualized treatment plans using a variety of cardiac medications to manage conditions like congestive heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and valvular heart disease.
- Interventional Cardiology Procedures: In some cases, CVCA offers advanced procedures such as balloon valvuloplasty for certain congenital heart defects or pacemaker implantation for severe arrhythmias.
- Pre-Surgical Cardiac Clearance: Performing thorough cardiac evaluations for pets scheduled for non-cardiac surgeries to assess anesthetic risk, especially for those with suspected or known heart murmurs.
- Ongoing Management and Follow-Up: Providing long-term care plans, regular re-evaluations, and continuous communication with primary care veterinarians to ensure optimal, collaborative care for chronic heart conditions.

CVCA Cardiac Care For Pets Reviews
We were told by our vet that we needed to see a cardiologist for our dog before he could get his surgery done to make sure he did not have a heart murmur. We drove and hour and half to this practice. Everyone we spoke to and did the testing on our dog was absolutely wonderful. We were so nervous bc he is a rescue and reactive. Everyone was so patience with our dog and made him feel so comfortable. I would absolutely recommend them. The long drive was absolutely worth it!

Jan 31, 2025 · James McdannellApollo (my Boston) and I had a terrific visit yesterday with Dr Andries Alsop and Marissa. They were so very pleasant, professional and thorough. Being an Old school medical professional myself, I truly appreciate and value when people show they love their job and care like these two did. Keep up the awesome work !!!
Mar 12, 2025 · Arlene SmithI received a scare about my Rottweilers heart on Wednesday, 12 February. By Friday CVCA had an appointment for me. My Rottie is very timid, and everybody that came in contact with him, took their time with him and made him as comfortable as possible. Dr Alsop was very thorough and explained everything on my terms. I was lucky enough to have a good outcome, but the staff atCVCA is just awesome. You can tell they really care about their patients. By the time we left our appointment, Xander was going up to all of them. I highly recommend CVCA.
Feb 18, 2025 · Patty ShantzSuch a great place! We have 2 dogs that needed cardiac work-ups. The dogs have very different personalities and they were great with both of them. A mass was found in one of dogs and we were referred to internal medicine and she was equally as great. We'd recommend this facility to anyone!
