Hometown Veterinary Care Introduce
For pet owners in Central Maine, finding a veterinary practice that offers both advanced medical capabilities and a genuinely compassionate approach is essential. **Hometown Veterinary Care**, located in Fairfield, ME, prides itself on being a full-service animal hospital where "modern medicine meets hometown values." Serving the Kennebec County community and beyond, this practice is committed to being a partner in the lifelong health journey of your beloved animal companions.
Hometown Veterinary Care is not simply a vaccine clinic; it is a comprehensive facility offering advanced medical, surgical, and diagnostic services for small animals, including dogs and cats, and operates as a **Mixed Animal Practice** that may also provide services for large animals in the surrounding area. The philosophy here is centered on promoting responsible pet ownership, preventative healthcare, and offering crucial health-related educational opportunities to local clients. They understand that Maine pet parents face unique challenges, from the risk of **Canine Heartworm** and tick-borne diseases during the warmer months to the need for quality preventative care year-round.
The dedicated staff and veterinarians at Hometown Veterinary Care strive to ease the stress often associated with vet visits. As noted by many clients, the team is exceptional at managing anxious pets, taking notice of a dog's discomfort, and adjusting the procedure to make the pet feel more comfortable—sometimes even allowing pet parents to assist with simple tasks like taking a temperature. This focus on the individual pet's emotional well-being is a core part of their **Compassionate Veterinary Care** mission. Furthermore, they are committed to transparent recommendations, taking the time to explain the rationale behind recommended vaccines and treatments without applying pressure.
The hospital is well-equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, including in-house labs and advanced imaging, which means faster answers when your pet is sick or injured. This capability allows for quick and effective treatment planning, whether it’s for a routine matter like a **Urinary Tract Infection** or a more complex case requiring immediate attention, such as **Emergency Surgery**. By providing a wide spectrum of care, from puppy and kitten exams to geriatric monitoring and peaceful end-of-life support, Hometown Veterinary Care aims to be the only veterinary partner your pet will ever need.
The practice is also keenly focused on specialized areas of pet health often overlooked in basic clinics, particularly **Pet Dentistry**. Recognizing that oral health is critical to overall systemic health, they offer comprehensive routine dental care, including cleanings and minor procedures. They emphasize the proactive approach of preventative healthcare, not just reactive treatment for illnesses.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Great place to bring your pets. The staff is always friendly and helpful. One of my dogs is always anxious and they are very good at taking notice and letting me do some of the things, like taking her temp to make her feel more comfortable. They always take the time to explain the vaccines they recommend and why and never make you feel like you have to do everything they recommend. May 03 · Venessa Fredette
- Jeff is fantastic, I was very stressed about my fur baby! The staff did a really good job not feeding into my stress. They took X-rays to make sure it was nothing more than it was (upon my request) and really put me at ease. I went in expecting the worst and left feeling so much better (my fur baby too!) I was ensured I have done a very good job at taking care of my 10 year old dog and that alone is all I needed. Thank you Jeff and staff for everything! If I could give you more then 5 stars I would! - DO NOT GO HERE. I wish I could recommend Hometown; I had high hopes as Lakeside seemed decent before the merger. I brought my cat in recently for a simple rabies and distemper shot. I had an appointment, yet waited for an hour and fifteen minutes to be seen after arrival. I'm flabbergasted that with 3 receptionists they didn't have the decency to let me know there was a delay during the middle of a workday. I get there and the phone line to call into when checking in is busy; I opt to just walk in and the receptionist is clearly having a personal conversation during which I'm completely ignored- I could tell without a doubt that the call was not about veterinary business: she was laughing and chatting personal stuff for minutes.Next, I'm in the second waiting room for fifteen minutes. During that entire time, I can hear the voice of the vet who I'd meet shortly casually chatting with staff just outside my door and if I'm not there, as if I hadn't been kept in the lurch for an entire hour+ for the simple procedure of a couple shots for my now beyond-stressed out 5 year old cat. The cherry on top comes from the exorbitant $70 charge to fundamentally weigh my cat as part of the "visit" expense. (Really? Other vets don't charge this for a scheduled shot appointment.) Hometown: are you *trying* to discourage customers from returning to your practice by treating them disrespectfully and price gouging? The techs and staff (not the desk staff) have been caring and considerate, but I can't recommend this practice on that alone. I'll be looking for a new spot. I encourage others to read the recent reviews post-merger, better to look elsewhere if you don't want this kind of treatment. December 24 · d
- my sweet dog guy was terminally ill and i could not find a vet in the kingfield madison area that would take him and give him the peace he so desperately needed. i was distraught and had contacted 5 or 6 vets in the area and they said they were either not accepting new patients or were just too busy to help us.then we contacted hometown vet. they too were very busy but understood the circumstances and said bring him in, we will help you.we were greeted in the parking lot with a smile and compassion and brought right in. dr, jeff came in to tell us what lied ahead, and proceeded with administering gus' end of life drugs, gently, sweetly and kindly. they treated gus as if he had been a patient of theirs for years. i will be forever grateful for dr jeff and the staff at hometown vet. - Hometown vet was perfect when we had to put Meatball down. We checked in and were allowed to wait in our vehicle until the room was ready so it was as stress free as possible for him. When they called us in the vet tech was very kind and sweet to us and Meatball. They explained every well and gave us plenty of time with him. The complimentary memorial box is the absolute sweetest thing ever! His pawprint, some fur, and for-get-me-not "In Memory " flower seeds were everything included inside the box. Then 1 week after the visit we received a sweet card from the whole office. Seriously they best end of life care our buddy could have had! Thank you and we will reccomend you to everyone!
