I’m so glad we made the 1 1/2 drive. The team was amazing, kind and comforting the entire 22 hours we were there. They kept us posted about every test and result. We were able to stay with our pup the entire time, that was one of the main reasons for choosing VEG. We even got our own space later on in the visit which helped us all rest easier. I hope to never need their services again, but if I do I know they will do thier best and beyond to make my pup well again. I already recommended VEG to all my Facebook friends - Heather Sonn

Introduction / Overview

For pet owners across Massachusetts, the sudden onset of a pet emergency can be one of the most stressful experiences imaginable. When every second counts and regular veterinary offices are closed, having access to reliable, compassionate, and immediate emergency care is paramount. This is where the Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Shrewsbury, MA, steps in, revolutionizing the emergency veterinary experience. VEG is not just another emergency clinic; it’s a dedicated 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital with a unique philosophy centered around keeping pet parents involved every step of the way. They operate on the principle that emergencies are their middle name—it's all they do, and they do it best. Their mission is to provide expert care for any pet, from common dogs and cats to more unusual companions like hamsters and even ducks, offering a radically different approach to how emergency veterinary services are delivered.

The stellar reputation of VEG Shrewsbury is powerfully articulated by its satisfied clients. One reviewer was "so glad we made the 1 1/2 drive," highlighting the "amazing, kind and comforting" team and the ability to "stay with our pup the entire time"—a core reason for choosing VEG. This level of transparency and inclusion is a game-changer during anxious moments. Another grateful client recounted their experience with a hamster and a duck, noting how the staff made "a sad/stressful experience much easier" and were "kind and compassionate." The unique opportunity to "see the procedure" for their duck, which is "now healing up beautifully," underscores VEG's commitment to openness and education. These testimonials consistently emphasize the exceptional care, compassion, and the peace of mind that comes from being able to remain by their pet's side, making VEG a highly recommended choice for urgent and emergent veterinary needs for any animal in Massachusetts.

Location and Accessibility

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Shrewsbury is conveniently located at 196 Boston Tpke #001, Shrewsbury, MA 01545, USA. This address places the facility directly on a major thoroughfare, Boston Turnpike (Route 9), which is a key arterial road in Massachusetts. This strategic location ensures excellent accessibility for pet owners coming from Shrewsbury itself, as well as surrounding communities such as Framingham, Holden, Marlborough, Northborough, and Worcester. In a pet emergency, ease of navigation and quick access are critical, and VEG's placement on Route 9 significantly aids in this regard.

Accessibility at VEG extends beyond just physical location. A core tenet of their service is immediate access: "No appointment needed, come in 24/7. Emergency vet care starts the moment you walk in the door." This means that pet parents in Massachusetts can bypass the anxious wait times often associated with emergency rooms, human or animal, and speak with a veterinarian directly upon arrival, or even over the phone before heading in. Limited parking is available at the front of the building, with additional parking accessible via Boston Tpke. and Svenson Rd. Furthermore, if assistance is needed to get a pet into the hospital, a "VEGgie" (staff member) will meet you at the door, further enhancing the accessibility and reducing stress during an already difficult time. This combination of prime location and patient-first access makes VEG Shrewsbury incredibly accessible for Massachusetts pet owners in crisis.

  • Post-Care Support: One client mentioned that VEG even reached out after their pet's passing to offer information about grief groups, demonstrating a holistic approach to supporting pet parents beyond immediate medical care.
