Hypurrcat Introduce
For cat owners in New York City, hearing a diagnosis of feline hyperthyroidism can be worrying. While many general veterinarians can manage the condition with medication, finding a definitive and permanent cure often requires a specialist. In the heart of the city, Hypurrcat, a specialized facility directed by the world-renowned veterinarian Dr. Mark E. Peterson, provides a unique and highly effective solution. This article offers a comprehensive look at this expert-driven animal hospital, which is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of feline thyroid disorders.
Hypurrcat is not a general veterinary clinic; it is a state-of-the-art treatment center built specifically for radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroid cats. As a pioneer in the field, Dr. Peterson was the first veterinarian to document the condition in cats and has spent his career advancing the understanding and treatment of feline endocrine diseases. This singular focus allows Hypurrcat to offer a level of expertise and success that is simply unmatched. Their mission is to combine cutting-edge science with a compassionate approach, providing a safe, effective, and permanent cure for your cat.
This overview will detail the center's location and accessibility, the specialized services it offers, and the key features that make it a standout choice. We will also share insights from real pet owners who have entrusted their cats to Hypurrcat’s care, providing a genuine perspective on the experience. For any cat owner facing a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, understanding what Hypurrcat offers is a crucial step toward securing the best possible outcome for their beloved feline companion.
The traditional treatments for feline hyperthyroidism often involve lifelong medication or surgery, each with its own set of challenges. Radioiodine therapy, as practiced at Hypurrcat, is widely considered the "gold standard" because it offers a cure without the daily hassle of medication or the risks of surgery. The treatment is non-invasive and painless, and it works by using a small dose of radioactive iodine that is absorbed only by the overactive thyroid tissue, destroying it without harming healthy tissue or other organs. This targeted approach is a testament to the advanced veterinary medicine available at this facility.
Hypurrcat’s approach is also highly personalized. The dose of radioiodine is carefully titrated and individualized for each cat to ensure the lowest possible dose is used to still achieve a cure. This careful calculation minimizes radiation exposure to the cat and provides an extra layer of safety.
Hypurrcat is located within Dr. Mark E. Peterson’s practice at 21 W 100th St, New York, NY 10025. Situated on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the center is a highly accessible location for cat owners in New York City.
The clinic provides a compassionate and comfortable environment for both felines and their humans. The facility includes a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring that all clients can access their services with ease. Given the specialized nature of the care provided, appointments are highly recommended. This allows the staff to prepare for each patient, ensuring a smooth and efficient process. Clients often praise the staff for making scheduling a "breeze." The facility also features restrooms for client convenience, contributing to an overall positive and stress-free experience.

This includes a complete physical examination, routine blood work, thyroid testing, and diagnostic imaging (radiology and ultrasound) to confirm the diagnosis, determine the thyroid tumor volume, and rule out other conditions.
Personalized Treatment Plan: Every cat's dose is meticulously calculated to be as low as possible while still ensuring a cure. This individualized approach is a hallmark of the clinic and a key factor in its high success rate.
On-Site Care and Monitoring: During the radioiodine treatment, cats stay at the Hypurrcat facility in spacious condos. This ensures they are properly isolated for radiation safety and receive around-the-clock, compassionate veterinary care from the dedicated staff.
Post-Treatment Follow-up: The clinic offers long-term monitoring options to ensure the treatment was successful and the cat has returned to normal thyroid function, providing continued peace of mind for pet owners.

March 26 · Kayla HumphreyMore expensive than other options but a million times better and worth every penny. I took my cat here for a second treatment after his first treatment elsewhere failed. Not only did this one work, the staff and the experience were a million times more personal, and the difference in my cat's comfort and happiness when he came back were obvious. January 05 · Esthefanie GDr. Peterson is an expert, a true cat lover, and the staff are all so kind and professional. It's the only hospital I've experienced that treat pets and their parents with such care and respect, constantly informing us. I knew my pet was in excellent hands. We pay for the treatment, but we do not pay for the team to love our cat--yet that happened anyway. So so grateful to them and highly recommend, even if you have to travel or pay more, it is worth it.
October 01 · Tayo AThey treated my friend's cat, who has hyperthyroidism, with respect, sweetness and love. They are able to make my friend's cat, who was scared and stressed, as comfortable as possible to the point where the cat is comfy and purring. They also demonstrated their knowledge of the hyperthyroidism very well and was impressed with their expertise on the subject. My friend herself was also treated with respect, and her concerns were listened to. The staff in there was amazing!!! We were also able to view the kitty via online portal, which was cool. Will definitely recommend this awesome place to anyone!
