For pet owners throughout Maryland, ensuring the comfort and well-being of our beloved animal companions is a priority. Sometimes, however, our pets face persistent and challenging health issues, particularly those affecting their skin, ears, and allergies. When these common problems become chronic or complex, the expertise of a veterinary specialist becomes invaluable. In the scenic Long Green Valley, just north of Baltimore, Maryland, residents have access to a truly specialized resource: Long Green Animal Dermatology Center, P.C., also known as Animal Dermatology Clinic. This overview will introduce you to this unique practice, its highly specialized services, and what makes it a beacon of hope for pets struggling with dermatological conditions right here in our community.
Veterinary dermatology is a highly specialized field within veterinary medicine that focuses exclusively on the diagnosis and treatment of skin, ear, hair, and nail diseases in animals. These conditions are among the most commonly encountered problems in pets, ranging from mild itching and redness to severe, debilitating chronic issues that can significantly impact a pet's quality of life and create frustration for both owners and general practitioners. Unlike general veterinary clinics that handle a broad spectrum of health issues, a dedicated dermatology center possesses the advanced diagnostic tools, specialized knowledge, and unique therapeutic techniques required to tackle even the most challenging and previously unresolved dermatological cases.
Long Green Animal Dermatology Center, P.C., embodies this specialized approach. Led by board-certified veterinary dermatologists, including Dr. Joseph A. Bernstein and Dr. Deirdre F. Vaughan, the center is solely devoted to this specific area of expertise. This means they are at the forefront of research, diagnosis, and treatment of allergic skin conditions, ear disease, food allergies, chronic skin disorders, and more, in dogs, cats, and even horses. Their commitment is to provide the highest level of care, working in collaboration with your primary care veterinarian to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to your pet’s health.

Jun 19, 2025 · Stu NeedelThis practice is awesome. I can't say enough great things about them. My dog was very ill, with a skin issue. We saw 2 different Vet's at other practices at least 7 times, with no resolution and he was getting worse. Dr. Bernstein was able to diagnose him immediately and I feel saved my dogs life. He also has a wonderful warm and caring staff, that cheered for my dog once he was all better. This practice is the best and my family and I are extremely grateful.

Jun 15, 2023 · E. GonzalezWe came here after battling an ear infection for 5 months. Drs Bernstein and Vaughn have been tremendous. They're very kind, thorough and their pieces are so reasonable . We're finally making progress on our ear issues and I wish our vet would have sent us here sooner.
Jan 03, 2020 · Gina DavisDr. Bernstein and the staff at Long Green are AMAZING and extremely professional. I was astounded by their level of knowledge about ear issues in cats, and how dedicated they were to helping us understand what our cat’s ear issue could be and what was happening during his surgery. I highly recommend Long Green and would gladly trust them with my animal’s care again in the future.
