What is worth choosing
Choosing a veterinary practice in California is a significant decision for any pet owner, and Mt. Diablo Veterinary Medical Center offers several compelling reasons for consideration. What is most worth choosing is the center's commitment to high-level medical expertise. The availability of advanced services like regenerative medicine and laser surgery sets them apart from more basic clinics. For pet owners dealing with chronic conditions like arthritis or needing sophisticated surgical procedures, this level of specialty care is invaluable. The fact that the clinic is equipped with diagnostic tools like ultrasound and has a full-service lab means that pets can receive thorough and efficient care without the need for multiple referrals.
Many clients consistently praise the medical staff, particularly the veterinarians, for their knowledge and compassion. A client who travels all the way from San Francisco highlights the excellence of Dr. Fan and the entire team, stating they are "beyond excellent" and that the results of her dog's recovery from an allergic reaction were "amazing." This demonstrates a strong track record of successful medical outcomes and positive patient experiences. The center's designation as a "Cat Friendly Practice" also makes it an excellent choice for feline owners who want to minimize the stress of vet visits for their more sensitive pets.
However, it is also important to consider the full picture. The provided information includes a review that points to some potential challenges with administrative communication and a less-than-ideal client experience regarding a physical exam and anal gland expression. While this is one perspective, it underscores the importance of clear communication. What can be taken from this is that while the medical expertise is consistently high, it is always a good idea for pet owners to be proactive in communicating their wishes and expectations with the staff. For those who are willing to do so, the medical benefits and expertise offered by Mt. Diablo Veterinary Medical Center are significant, making it a powerful partner in their pet's health journey. Its ability to handle a wide range of medical needs, combined with a compassionate approach, makes it a noteworthy option for anyone seeking comprehensive veterinary care in the California region.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I recently brought my two senior pups here to consult about the Stem Cell Therapy for arthritis. The conclusion Dr. Fan gave was my pups were not the best candidates for it because of their age even they're very healthy otherwise. I really wish they had the option to tell me that via virtual consultation, email or on the phone. I took a day off, booked a hotel (95F weather, stayed only for a couple of hours), drove more than an hour one way to get there for the answer I wasn't looking for. Dr. Fan was very knowledgeable, which is comforting. However, it really bothered me that she asked to bring my pups in the back to do physical exam, which we didn't need since both of my pups had a lot of physical exams lately. Dr. Fan told me that she tried to express my shepherd's anal glands but no luck. Yes, I know her glands were hard to treat. It's always been that way. We have specific tech at my vet to do that for her. Without my consent they did it and failed. It's been bothering my baby since. I had to make an urgent appointment to take her to see my vet. They told me her glands were super inflamed possibly due to the failed attempt. I had to take her to Emergency to get treated to calm down the glands. It was extremely troubling to me that after Dr. Fan told me the physical exam conclusions, they still kept them in the back for more than half an hour and I had no idea what they were doing to them. I had to ask them to give my dogs back. FRONT DESK: From the start, their front desk communication was horrible. They were super slow in response, said they'd respond with certain things by certain time and never did. Before the visit, they asked for my vet's contact to get the med record. I asked my vet to send over as well. Yet when we got there, Serena was asking for my pups' med records. When the other receptionist was checking me out, I asked for email invoice, she said ok. Then I kept checking on my phone, no invoice and I saw her walking around casually doing something else. I didn't want to push because I was exhausted and just wanted to go home. The next day I sent an email for invoice, there's still no response days later. I don't recommend this vet.
August 25 · Annie SpragueMy pomchihuahua was experiencing an allergic reaction from the dental powder that was only administered to her less than a week and her stool’s outcome became a jelly like bloody red consistency. I called the office right away and were able to work in a drop- off appointment for my precious Paisley the following Monday. They prescribed her medication and it hasn’t been even a full week and the results of her recovery have been amazing!! I am extremely happy with this veterinary clinic. The techs and receptionist and all the vets including Dr. Fan are beyond excellent. I drive all the way from San Francisco just to bring my my Poms and Sphynx cat here for their annual checks and so forth. If I could rate them 20 stars I absolutely would. Thank you all for all you do and for always loving and caring for my precious babies!!
August 05 · Christal AquinoWe have 2 senior dogs and our most recent visit at the Mt. Diablo Veterinary Medical was excellent. Dr.Fan was thorough, gave us options to consider for various treatments and answered all of our questions. We were very please with our visit. Our nearly 14 year old Golden Retriever agrees with an all paws up review.
June 15 · Deb DeVries Voice OverWe have two beautiful cats-Winston Churchill & Franklin Roosevelt. Winston is out going and loves to roam. Franklin always waits at home for his brother to return. Last week,Winston must have followed the wrong path and got involved with a bad crowd because he came home very beaten up. Mt. Diablo Vet. took care of poor Winston. Soothed is aches and pains, took care of his abcess and sent him on his way. Thank goodness for the kindness of their staff and Doctors
December 06 · Katherine WoodWe have trusted this vet for major procedures, including dental surgery for one of our cats, and recently brought another in for care. Unfortunately, our most recent experience has been deeply disappointing. After our cat’s procedure, we were sent home with pain medication and antibiotics—only to discover that one of the pouches for the pain medication was completely empty. Concerned, we tried calling the clinic multiple times, but no one picked up. My husband then drove to the vet, only to be told that they could not replace the missing medication without a new prescription from the doctor—yet they refused to provide a timeline for when that would happen. Meanwhile, our cat is home in pain, and we are left without a solution. For a clinic that charges nearly $3,000 for these procedures, I would expect a higher standard of care, organization, and attention to detail. Mistakes happen, but the unwillingness to take immediate action to correct it is unacceptable. Additionally, when we picked up our cat post-surgery, the doctor did not take the time to go over the details with us, simply handing us a vague instruction sheet before rushing off to another surgery.Reading other reviews, it seems we are not alone in noticing a decline in the level of care here. This experience has been frustrating, stressful, and deeply upsetting. I urge others to consider looking into alternative clinics before choosing this one.
