No More Chasin' Tails

1 Court House Dr, Newport News, VA 23608, USA

4.0
I want to thank Dr. Califf and her staff for helping me with a feral cat that my grandmother has been feeding for a couple years that would come and go months at a time. He started coming back with a terrible wound and infection around his neck. So finally I tried to find places that could help and No More Chaisin Tails was really the only place that was willing to help me. They were so quick to respond to emails and so good about scheduling and rescheduling appointments with me because you can't count on these kitties to show up when it's time for their appointments! It turned out this boy was FIV+. Dr Califf did give me the option of euthanasia but she did not pressure me and she was very patient with me as I weighed the option of trying to go through with treating this poor kitty and if I had the ability to nurse him or not. Dr. Califf stitched up his wounds, neutered him and treated his infection. He is gaining weight again and is such a happy boy and I can tell he feels lucky to be alive and we both share a bond now. A huge thanks to these miracle workers keep up what you are doing you made a difference in this boys life. 10/10 recommend - kristin jones

While a detailed, exhaustive list of every single service offered by No More Chasin' Tails is best confirmed directly with the clinic, a professional veterinary practice of this caliber typically provides a comprehensive range of services to address the diverse health needs of pets. Based on the provided customer reviews, which highlight their exceptional care for challenging cases like wound treatment, neutering, and managing infections, it's clear they offer more than just basic care. Here are the types of services generally provided by highly regarded veterinary clinics:

  • Wellness and Preventive Care: This forms the foundation of long-term pet health. It includes routine physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations, robust parasite prevention programs (covering fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal parasites), and tailored nutritional counseling to support optimal weight and overall well-being.
  • Diagnostic Services: Essential for accurately identifying health issues. This commonly encompasses in-house laboratory testing (blood chemistry, complete blood counts, urinalysis, fecal exams), diagnostic imaging such as digital radiography (X-rays) to evaluate bones and internal organs, and potentially ultrasound for more detailed soft tissue assessments.
  • Surgical Procedures: A broad category that includes common procedures like spaying and neutering, as well as various soft tissue surgeries (e.g., tumor removals, laceration repairs, foreign body removals). The review specifically mentions neutering and wound stitching, indicating their proficiency in these areas.
  • Dental Care: Crucial for preventing systemic health issues stemming from oral disease. Services typically include professional dental cleanings (scaling and polishing under anesthesia), dental radiography to assess below the gum line, and extractions of diseased teeth.
  • Pain Management: Both acute and chronic pain management strategies are vital for pet comfort, particularly after surgery or for conditions like arthritis. This involves medication and possibly other therapeutic approaches.
  • Emergency and Urgent Care: While not explicitly stated as a 24/7 emergency clinic, the ability to respond to and treat urgent issues like severe wounds and infections, as described in the review, suggests they are equipped to handle critical situations during their operating hours.
  • Behavioral Counseling: Guidance and resources to help manage common behavioral challenges, promoting a harmonious household environment for pets and owners.
  • Microchipping: A crucial service for permanent identification, significantly increasing the chances of reuniting lost pets with their families.
  • Pharmacy Services: Convenient on-site access to necessary medications, enabling pet owners to pick up prescriptions immediately after their appointment.
  • FIV+ Management: As indicated by the review, they have experience and provide options for managing specific conditions like Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), demonstrating a willingness to work through complex diagnoses with pet owners.

No More Chasin' Tails distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that are evident from the provided customer feedback, showcasing their dedication to animal welfare and client satisfaction.

  • Exceptional Compassion and Patience: A significant highlight is the team's profound empathy, particularly exemplified by Dr. Califf. The review of the feral cat case clearly demonstrates their patience and understanding when dealing with challenging situations, offering options without pressure and supporting owners through difficult decisions. This compassionate approach extends to all animals, ensuring they feel cared for, even when dramatic, as noted by the owner of "sweet June."
  • Responsiveness and Flexibility in Scheduling: The clinic's prompt response to emails and willingness to schedule and reschedule appointments, especially for unpredictable animals like feral cats, is a standout feature. This flexibility greatly reduces stress for pet owners and reflects a deep understanding of the practical challenges involved in pet care.
  • Holistic and Thorough Treatment: Beyond just addressing immediate symptoms, the practice provides comprehensive care. For the FIV+ cat, they not only treated the infection and stitched wounds but also performed a neuter, indicating a commitment to overall health and well-being. This thoroughness ensures pets receive integrated care.
  • Post-Visit Support and Follow-Up: The fact that they "checked on her throughout the week" for sweet June highlights a proactive and caring follow-up system. This demonstrates a genuine concern for the pet's recovery and provides reassurance to owners, fostering trust and a strong doctor-client relationship.
  • Making a Tangible Difference in Animals' Lives: The "miracle workers" sentiment from the review for the feral cat speaks volumes. Their interventions led to a significant improvement in the cat's quality of life ("gaining weight again and is such a happy boy"), underscoring their effectiveness and the positive impact they have on the community's animal population, including those who are most vulnerable.
