UrgentVet understands this, and their model is specifically designed to alleviate that stress by offering timely care without the long waits or prohibitive costs often associated with traditional emergency rooms. They focus on addressing conditions that require immediate attention but are not critical enough to warrant a 24-hour emergency hospital, such as sudden lameness, vomiting, minor injuries, or unexplained discomfort.
What sets UrgentVet apart, as highlighted by numerous grateful pet owners, is not just their ability to see your pet quickly, but the profound empathy and understanding demonstrated by their staff. In tough situations, like dealing with an injured pet, a compassionate and patient team can make all the difference. This dedication to excellent customer service and genuine kindness, even when referring to a full ER, underscores their commitment to the pet's well-being above all else.

Beyond Falls Church, the hospital's location offers strong accessibility for pet owners in numerous neighboring communities across Northern Virginia. Towns and cities such as Arlington, Fairfax, McLean, Vienna, Annandale, and parts of Alexandria are within a reasonable driving distance. Northern Virginia boasts a robust network of interstates and major roads (like I-66, I-495, and Route 50), facilitating relatively smooth travel to the clinic. While public transportation options like Metrobus serve the Arlington Boulevard corridor, most pet owners will find private vehicle transport more convenient for urgent veterinary visits, ensuring their pets can be seen quickly and comfortably. UrgentVet specializes in providing immediate, non-life-threatening veterinary care, bridging the gap between your primary veterinarian and a 24/7 emergency hospital. Their focus is on addressing acute conditions that require prompt attention but are not critical emergencies. While a complete, exhaustive list of services would be best confirmed by contacting them directly, a typical UrgentVet clinic offers care for:
Acute Illnesses: Conditions such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, coughing, sneezing, and unusual discharge. They aim to diagnose the cause and initiate appropriate treatment quickly.
Minor Injuries: Lacerations (cuts), limping, minor sprains, strains, or mild trauma where the pet is not in critical condition. They can assess the injury and provide immediate relief and treatment.
Skin Issues: Sudden onset of itching, rashes, hot spots, or allergic reactions. Timely intervention can prevent these from escalating into more severe problems.
Urinary Problems: Difficult or frequent urination, blood in urine, or accidents inside the house. These can be signs of urinary tract infections or other urgent conditions.
Eye and Ear Issues: Redness, discharge, swelling, or pain in the eyes or ears. These require prompt attention to prevent worsening conditions or discomfort.
Pain Management: Assessment and initial treatment for pets experiencing sudden pain or discomfort from an unknown cause.
Toxin Ingestion (Non-critical): For pets that may have ingested something harmful but are not showing severe, life-threatening symptoms, UrgentVet can provide immediate assessment and induce vomiting if appropriate, before symptoms worsen.
Wound Care: Cleaning, closing, and bandaging of minor to moderate wounds that require immediate attention but are not life-threatening.
Diagnostic Testing: Utilizing in-house diagnostics such as blood work (e.g., CBC, chemistry panels), urinalysis, fecal exams, and basic X-rays to quickly identify the underlying cause of an urgent condition.
Fluid Therapy: Administration of intravenous or subcutaneous fluids for pets experiencing dehydration or mild shock, to stabilize their condition.
It is crucial to note that for severe, life-threatening emergencies (e.g., severe trauma, difficulty breathing, seizures, unconsciousness, severe bleeding), pets should be taken directly to a 24-hour veterinary emergency hospital. UrgentVet often assists in these situations by stabilizing the pet and helping owners find appropriate emergency room facilities, as highlighted in client testimonials.

UrgentVet Reviews
I had an extreme emergency after my dogs were hurt by recklessness of my dog sitter. The Dr. and Vet tech was an absolute blessing. They were paitent understanding and so kind. They made sure to review each on of my dogs. While ultimately I had to take them to the ER, they were nice enough to call around and found an ER that would take them. They are the example of what customer service and kindness in tough situations are. Thank you for absolutely everything. My boys are doing better but not out of the woods just yet. Would highly recommend.
Apr 22, 2025 · James ArtisCharlie’s visit to UrgentVet was very pleasant and reassuring for him. The veterinarian was extremely calm and gentle with him and understood his special needs. She and the vet technician took their time with him and were very reassuring with him. We were very pleased.
Jan 24, 2025 · Mary GondaI want to thank the staff at UrgentVet in Falls Church for every thing they did for my sweet baby Kitty. My baby was suffering from respiratory distress and it was found that she was suffering from Pneumothorax that was cause by a tumor that we didn’t know about. The difficult decision was made to euthanize. The staff was so compassionate and allowed me time to have all the kisses and love and allowed me to be there and hold her until the very end. I cannot thank Alicia and Dr. Worn for showing me and Kitty the up most support during this difficult time!
Dec 06, 2024 · pleshette alexanderGoing to say upfront that we prefer VEG and came here after we were told they're at capacity. We came here for our dog (with a history of UTIs).The good: nice hours, clean lobby, convenient check in process online. The mediocre: the staff is clearly stressed or unhappy. We were waiting in the lobby for a while, watching staff get takeout orders delivered while not even making eye contact with us. The check-in is a tablet, there are no receptionists or support staff for talking to clients, so ...nurses and DVMs are going over your financial info. We never saw an itemized list of our receipt, and it wasn't sent to us until we called for it.The very bad: we were told by the vet that she would send off our dog's urine sample for a culture. This is to make sure that the correct antibiotic is being used. when we had to call to get our receipt and the urinalysis results, Diamond informed us that they don't...send out...urine samples? This is a pretty basic service that every other ER/Urgent vet location we've been to offers to ensure the dog is receiving the correct medication. We feel mislead. The frustrating: the vet did not seem interested in following our timeline of our dog's relevant UTI/Kidney history. She talked over us and I'm still not sure she really understood some of what we were saying. While going over our treatment plan, medications we'd never discussed with the vet were listed (that they wanted us to pay for). My husband had to ask the nurse if she even had the right patient file up.We've had much better experiences at VEG; their customer service compared to this was off the chart. Maybe if there was a designated person to go over finances, communicate wait times and treatment plans, things may go a bit smoother.
May 21, 2025 · Rebecca LevineThe staff were extremely kind and patient with my pup! I felt like Dr. Gonzalez really helped me understand our options and best next steps for my dog’s care. I also really liked the waiting area and how easy it was to check in!
