I only have great things to say for Sage Rehab Center! My 8 month old puppy was attacked by another dog in September. She sadly suffered femoral nerve damage and severe tissue damage that left her with a significant limp for over a month. I brought her to Sage to help her work on strengthening her limb and getting her back to normal as best we could. Dr. Murphy has been so excellent: tailoring a treatment plan that best fit Scottie to help strengthen the nerve and limb again, as well as providing at home exercises to help her leg. I can happily say, her limp is no longer visible and she’s gained the strength back in her leg! I am beyond grateful to Dr. Murphy and the staff at Sage for all their help, kindness and compassion during a very stressful time for us. It’s been an amazing journey watching Scottie gain her strength back, thank you so much🩷 - Samantha Colon

Much like human physical therapy, canine rehabilitation employs a range of non-invasive techniques and exercises to alleviate pain, improve function, and enhance the overall quality of life for your furry friend. Their team of certified professionals is committed to providing tailored treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient, ensuring a path to recovery that is both effective and compassionate.

Location and Accessibility

Sage Canine Rehabilitation Center is conveniently located at 229 10th St, Jersey City, NJ 07302, USA. This central Jersey City address makes it highly accessible for pet owners throughout the city and nearby New Jersey communities. Its location is a significant advantage, allowing for regular, consistent therapy sessions without the burden of long commutes. Easy access means less stress for your pet and greater convenience for you, which is particularly important when dealing with an injured or recovering animal that may require frequent visits. The facility's presence in a well-connected part of Jersey City ensures that specialized canine rehabilitation services are readily available to those who need them most.

Services Offered

Sage Canine Rehabilitation Center provides a comprehensive suite of physical rehabilitation services, all aimed at improving your dog's mobility, reducing pain, and enhancing their overall quality of life. Their expertise covers a wide range of conditions and recovery needs.

  • Physical Rehabilitation: Tailored treatment plans for pets suffering from neurological and musculoskeletal injuries or illnesses. This includes a thorough assessment to pinpoint issues and implement a plan to recover from injury, manage conditions, and increase mobility.
  • LASER Therapy: Utilizes infrared light to decrease pain and inflammation by boosting circulation to the treated area and promoting tissue healing. This non-invasive modality is often used for pain relief and accelerating recovery.
  • Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) Therapy: Employs a magnetic field to reduce pain, foster relaxation, and increase circulation, contributing to overall healing.
  • Electrical Stimulation: Applies controlled electrical currents to stimulate nerves and muscles, effectively reducing pain and inducing muscle contractions to improve muscle function.
  • Therapeutic Exercises: Customized exercise routines designed to target specific muscles, leading to improvements in strength, mobility, weight loss, and balance. These are often like a personal training program for your pup.
  • Treadmill Training (including Underwater Treadmill Therapy): Used at a controlled speed to improve gait patterns, enhance cardiovascular endurance, and improve proprioception (body awareness). The underwater treadmill provides buoyant support and reduced joint impact, making it ideal for weight loss, overall fitness, and low-impact rehabilitation.
  • Manual Therapy: Hands-on techniques performed by certified physical therapists or veterinarians to improve joint mobility, reduce pain, and address stiffness in specific joints and soft tissues.
  • Home Exercise Programs: Providing pet owners with personalized exercises and guidance to continue rehabilitation at home, ensuring consistent progress and empowering owners to actively participate in their pet's recovery.
  • Mobility Aid Fittings: Assistance with fitting and ordering specialized equipment such as Help-em-Up Harnesses for support with standing or navigating stairs, as well as measurements for wheelchairs and mobility carts for pets with paralysis or significant weakness.
  • Orthotics/Prosthetics: Therapists can perform measurements and casting for custom braces required for conditions like ligament tears or tendonitis, and facilitate ordering prosthetics for pets who have undergone limb amputation.
  • Canine Fitness Program: For healthy dogs, this program helps maintain weight, build strength, and improve overall fitness, similar to a gym membership for dogs, often utilizing the underwater treadmill for low-impact conditioning.
Features / Highlights

The success and positive reputation of Sage Canine Rehabilitation Center are significantly bolstered by its unique features and the outstanding care provided, as reflected in heartfelt customer testimonials.

  • Expert and Compassionate Staff (Dr. Murphy): A recurring highlight is Dr. Murphy, described as "so excellent" and praised for her "kindness and compassion." She is noted for tailoring treatment plans that best fit individual dogs, demonstrating a deep understanding of canine physiology and a genuine care for their well-being. This personalized approach is crucial for effective rehabilitation.
  • Significant Improvement in Pet Mobility and Strength: The core strength of Sage is its ability to deliver tangible results. One review details a puppy's recovery from "femoral nerve damage and severe tissue damage" to having "her limp no longer visible and she’s gained the strength back in her leg!" Another highlights a puggle dealing with "two torn cruciate ligament tears" who, after sessions, is "doing unbelievably better - appears to be walking without pain, can maneuver easier, and definitely has more pep." These outcomes speak volumes about the efficacy of their rehabilitation programs.
  • Support During Stressful Times: Pet owners often face immense stress when their animals are injured or unwell. Clients repeatedly express gratitude for the staff's "help, kindness, and compassion during a very stressful time," indicating that they provide not just medical care, but also emotional support to the entire family.
  • Focus on Avoiding Surgery (when possible): For conditions like cruciate ligament tears, which often lead to surgery, Sage offers a valuable alternative. The ability to help a dog recover "unbelievably better" and potentially "avoid surgery for a variety of reasons" is a significant benefit for many pet owners.
  • Personalized At-Home Exercise Plans: Beyond in-clinic sessions, the provision of "at home exercises" empowers owners to actively participate in their dog's recovery, reinforcing progress between visits and ensuring long-term success.
