Jan 16, 2025 · Mary HughesThis is a long story, but it's a good one, and it's a testament to the amazing folks at Shepherd's Vineyard, so bear with me. You just need the backstory to appreciate everything! :)We had a neighborhood stray--a gorgeous German Shepherd boy who roamed our neighborhood for about 4 months. He would run from adults, but was friendly with children. He had never shown any signs of aggression.A neighbor had a championship bloodline Weimaraner who was in heat, chased the German Shepherd, and nature did what nature does. The Weimaraner's owner wasn't happy, so he decided that the best course of action was to call the German Shepherd vicious (he wasn't) and have animal control come and take him. When I saw his pic on the animal control website, there was blood on his chest, and the whites of his eyes were solid red where they strangled him with the catch pole. He looked terrified and I couldn't stand the thought of this dog being so badly mistreated. He'd always been such a good boy. I rallied the troops and Southeast German Shepherd Rescue got involved. When animal control refused to neuter him, they were able to get Shepherd's Vineyard to agree to do the surgery. He was set to be released from animal control on 12/12/2024. The sticky spot was, I was traveling with my eldest daughter, so my husband was on his own to manage this new dog and our 3 other kids.On 12/12, the dog (now named Bolt after the Pixar dog who was trying to find his way home to his person, and because given the opportunity, he'll bolt) was released to my husband. He took Bolt to Shepherd's Vineyard and they accepted this terrified, previously feral (he'd never been inside a structure before animal control), and treated him kindly. They decided that Bolt was too stressed out and that subjecting him to surgery wouldn't be in his best interest at that time.My husband was freaking out about the prospect of trying to get Bolt home, and keeping him from escaping. He was so anxious about it he was sick to his stomach with worry. I was on the phone with him when he pulled into Shepherd's Vineyard and he was a wreck. He has a tendency to be a catastrophist, and this was sending him spiraling on all the worst case scenarios--the dog would run away...the dog would eat our kids...the dog would destroy the house...He called me on his way home and said that an angel of a vet tech volunteered to follow him home (in a non-creepy stalker way...haha) and make sure he was able to get Bolt inside the house and settled. She didn't have to do that, and it wasn't even on her way home. She's just kind and she legitimately cared. She also had a harness in her personal stash that fit him well and provided a secondary anchor point in addition to a martingale collar. She was covering all kinds of bases to make sure we could keep Bolt safe. They were able to get Bolt into the house and get him settled without traumatizing anyone--the dog or my husband, and the journey to rehabilitate this feral dog began.A few days after we realized that he'd picked up kennel cough at the shelter. We were able to get him on antibiotics without a traumatic car ride, and he recovered quickly. In a month, Bolt is housebroken and sleeps in the master bedroom with us. He walks politely on a leash and isn't anymore reactive than most of the dogs in our neighborhood. He does counter surf and try to get into the trash, but he's learning. He's made great strides in the month he's been with us!I took him back to Shepherd's Vineyard on 1/8/2025 to be neutered. I was able to take him into the building on his leashes. He wasn't overly enthusiastic about going in, but he didn't fight. His surgery went well, and he came home with a cone. It's been a little more than a week and he's healing beautifully. He's such an amazing dog, and we love him to pieces. I'm so thankful for SGSR and the folks at Shepherd's Vineyard for their kindness, empathy and compassion. I highly recommend them!

Feb 27, 2025 · Cameron KingAfter going to a huge animal hospital for the last 12 years, I was very pleasantly surprised about how personable the care has been at Shepherd’s Vineyard. The staff cares very much and makes you feel like your dog is the only one on their schedule that day. So kind and thorough.
Jan 26, 2025 · Tiffany MunroWe were new patients and found the discussion with the vet to be helpful and pragmatic. We were not “upsold” to try more services that were not needed and were able to get a great holistic exam of all aspects of our new rescue dogs health - things to take care of now and things to keep an eye on for the future. Staff was friendly and efficient. Clean facilities and great parking and little to no wait time. Dr Saladin I was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
