Veterinary Associates Introduce
For pet owners across the Iowa City area, **Veterinary Associates** stands as a long-established provider of comprehensive small animal veterinary services. Located conveniently in the heart of the city, the clinic is dedicated to offering a full range of medical, surgical, and preventative care for **Dogs, Cats, and Pocket Pets**. The clinic’s mission centers on the philosophy of fostering the human-animal bond through high-quality medicine and attentive, kind care, ensuring that every pet's health is managed meticulously from their first 'New Pet Exam' through their senior years.
The clinic is home to experienced DVMs, including **Dr. Beth Shannon**, a distinguished graduate of Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine (1990) with an impressive history of practice in the Iowa City-Coralville-North Liberty region. Dr. Shannon is particularly noted for her special interest in **internal medicine** and her involvement as an Associate Editor for the Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging Folder on the Veterinary Information Network, showcasing a commitment to advanced diagnostic capabilities and continuing veterinary education.
While the experience of every pet owner can vary, as illustrated by the diverse feedback the clinic receives—ranging from reports of deep kindness and professional attention to accounts of less than ideal interactions, such as those involving a required "re-establishment of care" exam—the clinic's core commitment remains to delivering a wide spectrum of veterinary services. The positive testimonials often highlight the staff's ability to **squeeze pets in on short notice**, their **incredibly kind and informative** approach, and a remarkable ability to calm even anxious pets, such as a cat who was "purring and flirting" during a routine shot. This suggests that when the care is consistent, it is truly exceptional and client-focused.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- My dog had an exam where Dr Shannon didn’t touch my dog- not even once. They just had to charge for the exam so that they could “re-establish care” since I had moved back to the area after being gone for just 6 months and I was 99% certain my dog had an ear hematoma. Without touching my dog, she prescribed prednisone, and my dog died of an unrelated infection one week later. Hunny was a member of the family for12 years and my baby. I thought about going back with my other dog, but why? The first veterinarian my baby saw here was an older gentleman about 2.5 years ago. He retired the next day. Dr. Shannon was just terrible. - The staff squeezed us in on short notice and were incredibly kind and informative. My cat loved them (was purring and flirting with them even while she got a shot!) and the doctor included my son in the exam. Afterward, he played vet for an hour with his toys in his room. Thank you to this wonderful clinic. May 03 · Jessica Smith
- I needed to find a veterinarian clinic for our dogs since moving to Iowa for their health check up and immunizations and in order to have them stay at a kennel when I'm traveling out of town. I made an appointment at Veterinarian Associates in Iowa City as the waiting time for new customers wasn't too long. The clinic staff was excellent and very friendly, polite, and professional. The technician truly enjoys dogs and made our dogs feel very comfortable and at ease. The veterinarian was also great and had a great bedside manner while examining our dogs. In addition to getting updated vaccinations, the veterinarian completed a physical exam for both dogs. The costs for the physical exams and immunization was very reasonable and the clinic also sent the immunization records to the kennel I will be using for our dogs. Although Veterinarian Associates is a little further away from where we live and there are some clinics closer, I was very pleased with them and will continue to take our dogs to Veterinarian Associates in the future. - We absolutely love this vet! It's fully staffed and they're all wonderful with animals. Dr. Carlson & Dr. Shannon are knowledgeable and friendly. The vet techs and assistants are welcoming and calm with our dogs. The The office and exams are always very clean. It's very clear this is a group of people who really get how important our pets are! - This place is amazing. My cat has had bladder issues twice this month, and with a new animal at a new vet, I was pretty nervous. Their staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. This morning I had to take him in, got him sorted with meds, but a few hours later he wasn't doing too well. After I called them with a million questions, they asked us to bring him back in just to double check. They answered all of my many questions about what to do for my cat and did not charge us for the second visit. You can tell that these folks go out of their way to make sure you are informed and that your animal has a calm experience. The level of service they have provided makes me feel as though my concerns about an animal I care so much about are genuinely their concerns as well. I cannot thank this staff enough for all the help they have given me with my little guy. July 25 · Sydney Ewerth
