For residents throughout Virginia, and particularly in the Tidewater region, the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty of Tidewater, or VEST, is the premier destination for urgent and specialized animal care. As one grateful client shared, after their regular vet dismissed their concerns, VEST took their dog's condition seriously and provided the care she needed to recover. Another powerful testimony highlights the life-saving importance of a second opinion, praising VEST for accurately diagnosing a condition that a previous hospital had misidentified, leading to a devastating and incorrect prognosis. This ability to provide expert and rapid diagnosis, even in complex cases, is a testament to the highly specialized skill set of the veterinarians and staff at VEST. They understand the deep bond between pet and owner, and they treat every patient with the care they would give their own. This professionalism and empathy, especially during such a vulnerable time for pet owners, is what makes VEST an invaluable part of the local community’s pet care network. Their facility is equipped to handle everything from sudden injuries to complex, undiagnosed illnesses, providing a level of service that is both thorough and reassuring.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’m very pleased with the treatment my dog received at VEST! We took her in because she wasn’t eating, drinking, or mobile. They took our concern seriously and did everything they could to pinpoint what was going on. Our regular vet did not and sent us on our way. I felt very comfortable to hospitalize our Hazel here for a few days and knew they were taking great care of her. They allowed us visits while she was hospitalized and answered all of our questions. She’s doing so much better now. Thank you, VEST!
August 12 · Caroline HawkinsI came home from vacation and my dog was in distress unable to swallow and foaming at the mouth. I took her to a Veterinary Hospital (won’t disclose name) and they gave her a couple shots and 2 x-rays. The next day Shyanne was not better so I placed a call back to the Vet Hospital. The vet basically said it’s either NC State or euthanize. I was devastated. I took her to VB beach to Veterinary Emergency & Specialty of Tidewater and the vet there diagnosed her in a matter of minutes with “drop jaw”. I cannot tell you how happy I was. This condition resolves itself. I felt like it was Christmas morning! Anyone who knows me knows I am neurotic about my fur babies. Thank you so much for giving me the greatest gift. To think the thought of euthanasia was on the table makes me sick. Get a second opinion !!
August 15 · Jennifer CantyIf I could give 0 stars I would!!!!! This place is not forth coming with information!!! They used a CLIPPER on a 4 MONTH OLD goldendoodle. If they are REAL pet lovers you would know to use only scissors as they get anxiety and he’s a baby!!! Because apparently his hair was matted they claim, but the work they had to do was on his stomach near his gallbladder and putting an IV in his arm and leg, so why shave, three legs out of the 4 and his face , all around this place lies and withholds information & the owner she is just looking for money and feels no compassion. Neither does anyone at that establishment. They also withheld information and then when we got the paperwork, we seen additional information added that they did not disclose to us while he was in their care for 3 nights. By the way, they don’t check any type of paperwork that you have really and wanted 4k upfront and all they did was test, x-rays, and put him on electrolyte IV and threaten not to release him if we didn’t pay the funds upfront and when we asked, could we just take our pet and find another vet the owner came out suggesting we just give our animal up to rescue. Terrible business, terrible place, terrible people, and disgusting establishment. Do not bring your pet here. See pictures for reference of my poor baby.
August 27 · Sadelle C.I am thrilled that an emergency vet office is near me! VEST is open 24 hours many days a week. I hope there will be a day that it is open 24/7, but for now any amount of overnight/early/late hours is appreciated. I was shocked when I called this morning shortly after sunrise and a human answered the phone. She was pleasant, sympathetic, an helpful. Upon arrival, I filled out a very short form, and waited for just a few minutes before my sick little Lucy was seen. Waiting until my regular vet opened on Monday was not an option - especially since there was no guarantee that my dog could be seen same day. Lucy was examined, tested, diagnosed, prescribed meds (filled there - so convenient), and sent home within an hour. (Obviously if there had been an emergency more severe, the wait would have been longer, but it was our lucky morning I guess.) Lucy is now back home, resting comfortably, and I could not be more grateful. Thank you to Dr. Naff and staff! You are appreciated and needed!
July 18 · ParksKMy husband and I took our beloved senior pup in for an emergency. Sadly we ended up having to put him down. The whole staff was absolutely wonderful, kind and compassionate. They let us spend all the time we needed with our pup before he crossed the rainbow bridge. Thank you VEST for being kind.
