A significant benefit for aquascaping enthusiasts in San Diego is the central and accessible location of Aquascape Supply Co. The store is situated at 4160 Convoy St, San Diego, CA 92111, USA. Convoy Street is a well-known and bustling thoroughfare in San Diego's Kearny Mesa neighborhood, famous for its diverse array of businesses, including many specialized retail outlets and eateries. This prominent location makes it straightforward to find and reach, whether you're traveling from within Kearny Mesa, Clairemont, Sorrento Valley, or other parts of the greater San Diego metropolitan area. The ease of access minimizes travel time, allowing dedicated hobbyists to quickly pick up essential plants, substrates, or hardscape materials for their projects. Parking can sometimes be a consideration on busy streets like Convoy, but the convenience of being in a commercial hub often outweighs minor parking challenges for those seeking specialized goods. This strategic location solidifies Aquascape Supply Co.'s role as a key local supplier for California's aquascaping community.
While direct, comprehensive public lists of services are not readily available for Aquascape Supply Co., based on their name and focus on "aquascape" and "supply," we can infer the range of products and potential supportive services typical of a specialized establishment catering to this niche hobby. Aquascaping involves specific types of live plants, substrates, tools, and hardscape materials that are often distinct from general aquarium keeping. Here's an educated list of services and product categories that California aquascapers can reasonably expect from Aquascape Supply Co.:
Aquatic Plants: A diverse selection of live aquatic plants, including foreground, midground, and background plants, various mosses, ferns, and stem plants suitable for different aquascaping styles (e.g., Iwagumi, Dutch, Nature Aquarium).
Hardscape Materials: A range of natural hardscape elements such as various types of aquascaping rocks (e.g., Seiryu Stone, Dragon Stone, Lava Rock) and driftwood (e.g., Manzanita, Malaysian, Spider Wood) crucial for creating the foundational structure of an aquascape.
Substrates: Specialized aquarium substrates designed to promote healthy plant growth, including nutrient-rich soils, sands, and gravels, often from brands popular in the aquascaping community.
Aquascaping Tools: Essential tools for planting, trimming, and maintaining aquascapes, such as long-handled tweezers, scissors, substrate shapers, and glass cleaners.
CO2 Systems and Fertilizers: Equipment for CO2 injection (regulators, diffusers, tanks) and a variety of liquid or substrate fertilizers tailored to provide necessary nutrients for aquatic plant health and vibrant growth.
Lighting Systems: High-quality LED lighting fixtures specifically designed to support robust aquatic plant growth, often with adjustable spectrums and timers.
Filtration and Water Maintenance: Advanced filtration systems, filter media, and water treatment products to ensure optimal water parameters for planted tanks.
Aquarium Tanks: Potentially a selection of rimless or low-iron glass tanks, which are favored by aquascapers for their clear viewing and aesthetic appeal.
Educational Resources: While not a direct service, a specialized store often provides valuable advice, guides, or recommendations on aquascaping techniques, plant care, and setup procedures, either in-store or via online content.
The features and highlights of Aquascape Supply Co. that make it suitable for local California aquascapers, despite some reported challenges in online order fulfillment, would focus on its specialized nature and the direct benefit to the local hobby community:
Specialized Focus: The primary highlight is its dedicated specialization in aquascaping. This means that unlike general pet stores, Aquascape Supply Co. focuses its inventory and knowledge on the specific needs of planted aquariums, offering a depth of selection and expertise that is hard to find elsewhere.
Curated Product Range: For a niche market, a curated selection of high-quality, professional-grade aquascaping products (plants, hardscape, equipment) is a significant draw, potentially saving hobbyists time and ensuring they purchase suitable items for their projects.
Expertise in Aquascaping: A specialized store usually implies a staff with a deeper understanding of aquascaping principles, plant health, and equipment use, which can be invaluable for local hobbyists seeking advice or troubleshooting help for their tanks.
Local Access to Live Plants and Hardscape: Being able to physically select live aquatic plants and unique hardscape pieces (like driftwood and rocks) can be a major advantage for aquascapers, as it allows for better visual assessment and planning compared to online purchases where variations can occur.
Community Building Potential: As a specialized local shop, it has the potential to serve as a hub for the San Diego aquascaping community, fostering connections, sharing knowledge, and potentially hosting workshops or events to further the hobby locally.

Aquascape Supply Co. Reviews
I odered Christmas Moss Vesicularia montagnei, Aquascaping ADA Live Plants from Aquascape via eBay. Unfortunately, I made my purchase as a guest and as a result I was not able to leave a review/feedback on the eBay website. In addition, my order was "non-returnable".Anyway... my order was packaged well and arrived sooner than I expected.Problem was, the moss was 99% brown/dead.The first picture (moss in hand) is what I saw on eBay.The next pictures are what I received. The brown water was my attempt to rinse the dead moss away.10/31 - then maybe another eBay seller is using the same address as your?
Oct 31, 2019 · Steven StewartTerrible experience. Paid for expedited shipping (1–3 days) for an aquarium but two weeks later, the package hasn’t even shipped. Customer service ignored multiple requests to cancel and refund. Misleading practices—order was dropshipped by a third party, not disclosed on their website. I now have to do a chargeback. Avoid this shop.
Dec 17, 2024 · Aleksandra ZaranskaNovice when it comes to planted tanks. The Aquascape Supply crew is passionate and assisted me with my first rimless tank. Didn't realize how pricey this hobby can be but it's worth every penny due to the serenity you get from seeing a planted tank in my office. Can't wait to keep aquascaping more and more.
Oct 31, 2019 · Priscilla ChanI was really bummed when my package hadn’t arrived after 3 weeks so I called the number listed on google and I told them my situation. They informed me to email their online sales guy at help@petzonesd , so I did! They were really nice and they checked in on my package and shipped it via priority mail the next day. I got it today. I’m so glad I didn’t decide to take the loss and called. It seems like they may have changed ownership because they’re now called Petzone instead of aqua scale supply. That would explain why a lot of packages have been missing lately. Old owner didn’t care to let new owner know about recent orders in the switch. All speculation but that’s what seems likely to me. Anyways, I would email help@petzonesd of your missing an order!
Jun 16, 2023 · Elena rodriguezNo response after placing an order and recieving the shipment tracking. Nothing has shipped, I tried emailing and messaging but have not heard anything. I had to file a dispute with my CC company to get my money back. I was trying to support a small business but 0 response and no product in hand after spending almost $200 is not good business.
